Torres will be our number one striker unless rafa plays 2 up front which he prob wont so when Ba comes on as a sub I think he will do well and once Torres is rested I can see Ba being out number one and Torres getting stroppy which will make a swap deal for falcao In summer more probable

I agree Torres hasn't been good enough lately, especially last night. But to be fair to him in the first half he was in on goal and Marin didn't pass to him, had he passed and then Torres finished it, we wouldn't all be moaning at him. Anyhow for the firs time since he took over Benitez selected the wrong team, he underestimated QPR and it cost us the game, I'm angry that he didn't admit to it being his fault in the interview.

Believable5 Unbelievable5

Will u plastic fans grow a brain for yourselves and stop the foolishness about picking the wrong team. Did u actually watch the match, if so go watch it again and this time with the volume off, we had nearly 70% possession and a lot of chances compared with maybe 2 half decent chances from Qpr. How in the world is that picking the wrong sqaud, players need to own that and finish their chances.

the first guy is clueless..
we only dropped two players...
hazzard and mata...
this was the only game which we could have rested both of them..
ridiculous...wen we dont take our chances...we either blame manager or sack them...
nonsense...
Its becoming a joke thsee days to read...
chelsea = Mata..
We are a team..

Agree2 Disagree0

Yeah I was at the game you mug! We had two clear chances all game, and to be honest the game that Hazard and Mata should've been rested for is the Southampton game, an FA CUP game not a LEAGUE game. Don't slag off fans that go to games mate, cos you clearly don't...

Glad we got rid of sturridge the donkey..what makes me laugh though is how delighted the scousers seem to be with him haha, they really are like the dogs of the league trying to feed of the top teams scraps. they go for all our city united and arsenal rejects. how you have to laugh....on another note lets not get too down about our loss as we will bounce back and aslong as we can get on a good run catch united, they have some hard games coming up now

Believable4 Unbelievable6

We have Stoke and Arsenal league games coming up, with Southampton and Swans in cups. I can see us doing ok in cups, but can't see us getting anything out of Britannia stadium. Arsenal looks like a dra to me. This is why QPR was vital.

im a toon fan and i just wanna let you guys into somethings about Ba.

first of all good on youz for getting him as im sure he will carry on scoring like he has been for us. i now reckon he will challenge RVP all the way this season for the golden boot in your side and can see him easilly outplaying and outscoring torres.

he will take the chances torres has been missing a lot latley so your gonna find him a star!

and secondly, his knee problem that makes him fail medicals isnt anything thats serious enought o stop him playing week in week out. its just something he has had in the back ground since he was a kid and its due to him growing so fast over a short period of time when younger.

most teams wouldnt sign him due to this as its ofetn an issue but its been managed well over the last few years and now hes getting the benefit of that.

good luck demba and i hope you lot beat man utd and that red nosed fella from the wee town up over the border to the title

jog on you zebra

Agree6 Disagree6

Apparently his MRi scan is pretty bad but what CFC looked at is his record last 2 half year and how he hasn't missed training session due to his knee and amount of games he has played also that the Fernando Torres transfer was so quickly rushed that there wasn't time for him to have a medical for us.. All this came from the Liverpool university head doctor who works for Liverpool fc and done the addy Carroll medical.. If anyone's interested more to the point demba BA will be a massive hit and will force Torres out team, good luck NUFC worth rest of season

Zola means a lot to us mate. he was instrumental in chelsea winning FA cup in 1996 i think. he scaored 4 goals in total. in a match against liverpool we were 2-0 down. he scored from a set piece. and that helped chelsea beat scousers 4-2.

I dont think azpicuta is average he has been one of the most relible players this season. Ithink he is a gem and be the world best right back come the age of 28

Agree3 Disagree0

Liverpool fan here coming in peace to discuss football...

we arent a million miles behind as a club, sturridge is a good signing for us, he gets goals when he plays, we can t afford to spend like you guys so we are building. allen 22, sturridge 23, henderson 22, shelvey 20, lucas 25, suarez 25, sterling 18
suso 19, wisdom 19, assaidi 24 i can forsee a future with 3-4 additions in summer where we are back in the top four next season and as these younglads all mature together where we are challenging for the league in a few years time.

dont be so quick to write us off. you guys have an excellent side and an excellent manager at the moment despite your recent loss to qpr, thats a blip. rafa will have you flying before the end of the season right up there maybe not quite title winners this year but not too far off definiate chance of 2nd spot.
i can see you are building for the future too with a host of quality young players at chelsea oscar hazard mata lukaku azpilicueta ramirez luiz there is huge potential for this chelsea side to progress in the coming years also.

howver i am not writing us off either.
it is expected we will be in the market for a new number 10 in summer to give suso a few years to grow into the role.

i d say we are 6th best in the country at the moment but there is room for improvement. spurs dont have so many promising youngsters, everton havent a squad strong enough to stay up there nor the financial power. no one knows how united will fare without fergie and city well they can just go an buy everyone that you dont buy and vice versa.

i predict a chelsea league win in 2 years time. liverpool top four next season. top 3 the year after then its game on

Tom 1975,
although I think your post has a lot of credibility I think you need to have a proper look at the spurs youngsters and the recent history spurs have in the under 21 and down leagues because there's been a lot of success there.
Don't say we ain't building for the future because I think in the future you'll be surprised with what we've got (even I've been surprised).
This is not a defensive rant just thought I'd say we've got a lot more 2 offer coming through than many think.
Anyway agree Liverpool have what it takes to head in the right direction aslong as they stand by the manager (aslong as you not in relegation) and let him build his squad.
The next few seasons should be interesting at the top and I for 1 am really looking forward to it.
Good luck this season would like to see the Liverpool of old again... I think anyone would.
Also good luck Chelsea fans we have a lot of banter but still respect your team for what they've achieved.

The result last night was disappointing however I don't think Rafa should have rested Mata and Hazard when we have a cup game on the weekend where Nigel Adkins has said he will play an under strength team meaning Mata and Hazard could have been rested then.

It is not the end of the world but it is vital now we win our game in hand because falling behing Spurs would not be ideal.

I still have faith in the team and would snap anyone's hand off for top 4 and then push on next season.

My only worry is the desire of the players, they have lost everything worthy this season so far and will have to do better for the remaining cups.
I hope this team start to have a winning mentality.

KTBFFH and have faith

You ever get so angry, so frustratingly irate you could actually cry? Stupid question for most of you, of course you could, you're Chelsea supporters!
I only ask because that's exactly how I felt when the final whistle went last night. I was bloody livid, in fact I've been livid since Benitez was appointed if I'm honest, it's not like I need any more provoking anyway. But QPR ffs? I knew he didn't respect us but does he really dislike us that much?
And as for Roman, I'm genuinely starting to believe all a manager has to do to keep his job is keep the owner's latest toy soldier on the team-sheet. I mean, imagine dropping a player who consistently fails to perform, outrageous! Not that dropping Torres is the reason given for Di Matteo's sacking because as Gourlay went to great pains to clarify in the programme RDM was sacked because the owner and board felt change was needed to move in the right direction. Clearly the direction he speaks of isn't an upward movement though because we certainly didn't head that way last night.
I'd said in my preview I was uncomfortable with this newfound confidence I had in us after the Everton game. I also said we needed to come out with the same mindset we had in this fixture last season if we wanted an easy win. We didn't.
Not that I'd ever try and detract from the skills it takes to manage a Premier League club, or any football club come to that but surely there's a few basics that even your average Sunday League boss sticks to. Actually, scrap that because you don't even need to know about the game itself to work out you need to play your best players. If you're going to do everything you can to guarantee a win, particularly against a side with a defence as suspect as Joey Barton's temperament, you start with your most attacking side. There'll be plenty of time to rest them once you've put the game safe, the most important thing is to secure the points, right?
Except apparently that's wrong because, when you're already an insurmountable way off the pace in the league and you're playing a side it would really hurt you to lose to, you do none of the above. Oh hang on though, it doesn't hurt everyone at Chelsea to lose to QPR though does it? For a start, if Rafa actually cared less, his team selection would have reflected it. If he genuinely gave one iota for our club, he'd have known just how hard losing to QPR would come he'd also know it's not something we generally do at Stamford Bridge.
As for Roman's latest Action Man, who actually bears more resemblance to Barbie's Ken since he now chooses to fix his hairband mid-corners, he looked about as interested in getting himself forward as a veggie in a butcher's queue. He might as well have sat and played hangman with Rafa all night because he'd clearly get more out of that than he does playing for Chelsea most of the time. Without Mata and Hazard, he wanders around aimlessly anyway and yet, whilst those two one of whom is our most consistently solid performer were felt to need a rest, our most consistent underperformer was deemed to be up to 90+ minutes.
Mind you, when managers with enough backbone to drop underperformers are subsequently sacked in favour of apathetic interims, it would seem passion and pride aren't required on the team-sheet anymore.

Believable10 Unbelievable4

Spot on

Agree3 Disagree2

Is this a serious post? Suggesting Benitez doesn't care if we win games is ridiculous. It also ridiculous to speculate that he doesn't respect us. I was there again last night....yes I actually go to the games rather than sit at home watching 'streams'. As much as I thought last nights team was a gamble, there is no reason given the players selected that they couldn't win that game. I would have probably preferred an earlier introduction of Mata and Hazard but it doesn't get away from the fact that they replaced, eventually, 'internationals' who should have performed. The lethargy in the team would seem to be down to Japan trip catching up. Is there any chance that Torres is knackered do you think given he has missed just 1 game? Remember a lot of fans on this site criticised DiMatteo for not resting players!! Also hypocritically fans sing his name in the 16th minute even though they were already disenchanted with him as the season had started to disintegrate. If Jose had replaced him would we be singing Robbie's name....of course not....it's just a childish reaction to Benitez. He's by no means my first choice, but he is there. I am so against the negativity the 16th minute chant brings. If we're going to sing it should be to support the team and create an atmosphere that intimidates the opposition rather than this chant which encourages the opposition and does nothing at all for our players. Getting back to FT I would probably look to cut our losses if we can get an exceptional replacement....no point otherwise as we need to move forward. Last night was really disappointing and we have to find a way to handle the 'little derbies', but I refuse to give up hope of silverware. CTID

Agree0 Disagree1

In case you have not noticed one chance of silverware has gone south, while in Yokohama. Also they don't handle silverware for finishing in top 4. And unless you consider those pointless Capital One Cup a trophy, or even an FA cup, the ok. There is a chance.

Block

Agree0 Disagree0

By my calculations...we are still...admittedly just... at best...in with a chance of PL....we are in semi's of Capital One Cup...didn't feel pointless in Cardiff beating Liverpool and Arsenal ....we are defending our FA Cup....didn't feel pointless being at Wembley beating Man U/Everton/Portsmouth and Liverpool in recent years.....and then there's the Europa League....the holders Athletico Madrid don't look too shabby. Yes opportunities have been missed but most people accept the team is changing and a bit of patience is needed. We do not have the super squads of Mourinho and Ancellotti...probably the one downfall of the Abramovich years in allowing this to happen. As I said a few weeks ago we are lacking leaders on the pitch and that is probably the most important thing that needs addressing. For the older ones amongst us think Brian Clough signing Dave Mackay for Derby and you will get it

The game last night was so bad it can't be defended in any way the worst part of actually losing the game was the fact that we lost to QPR, no excuses Benitez got it wrong. We've lost 4 games this season and 3 out of 4 of those teams we should be beat every day of the week. Now we are definitely out of the running for the title best thing we can get now is 2nd place. I wait to see what happens when Ba and/or another striker comes in. Apparently Torres will remain our main striker, playing all games while the better strikers sit on the bench or are played out of position. Lukaku has played just about a1/4 of minutes Torres played and is on d same goals as Torres, yet we feel he's not ready yet. He can't b any worse either. Shame! KDB is at Bremen, yet we dnt have enough cover in midfield, with so many underperforming players. Lamps can't play every game, Mikel, Ramirez, Romeu are nothing more than squad members; a truly worldclass midfielder is needed to partner Luiz/others. And I hope Courtois comes back in the summer. At the beginning of the season, I said I'll be content with a Top3 finish, see us play as a team and any other thing is bonus; everybody here gave me the abuse but that's reality. Not a rant just saying we shd be realistic and get things right.

How many goals has Torres scored that have made a difference to a result rather than being part of big scores/already winning totals? Last night he was again one of our least effective players, when a decent striker would surely have put that game beyond QPR's reach. He was by no means only one at fault though. Team play too slow from kick-off, passing too often too casual, Mata and Ramires should have come on at half time for Torres (Moses moved to central Striker position?) and perhaps Lampard (tired form heroics at Goodison; Hazard later for Marin -- who for me created more than most on the night, not least beating players in the box and rolling ball across goal for what should have been simple tap in etc.

Players and manager took game too lightly. Yet top four finish (let alone challenging for title!) must always be the priority over any other non-Champion's League competitions: places to blood youngsters/lesser played squad members. If we finish outside top four, we are in serious trouble.

Was at game last night and we were seriously outsung by QPRah fans; many of those around me in East Stand could have been at a matinee of Les Miserables. Coming to think of it, there were some parallels between the plot of that musical and our playing. But apart from sections of Matthew Harding and Shed, few were getting vocally behind our team.

Disappointing start to the New Year is an understatement. But we obviously still have enormous amount of talent, and if properly managed and with a couple of new confident strikers who can score a goal nearer to 1 per 100 mins (Kalou could, albeit coming off the bench) rather than 1 per more than 200 (Torres) and Fellaini-like midfielder (Luiz has helped quite a bit in that kind of physical presence role, but still a bit raw in that positiion) will get to the top again sooner rather than later.

Torres has been great recently. Alittle lack luster last night maybe but if he scores the same amount of goals in his next 10 games as he has in his last 10 games no one will complain and he will be on his way to a decent total and maybe the golden boot.
We just need to keep working at how to deliver the ball to him correctly and put him in positions that suit him and he will score plenty of goals.

Golden boot? Are u dreaming? He's only scored 7 goals in the league. I've been patient thinking he'll get back to his best but clearly it's not going to happen.

Look puzzled is back, that's good. Heard you guys are out off the bottom half of the table. Good times yeah?! Well don't get so excited as we have seen from your side it wouldn't take too long before you return there.

Am I the only one on here who really isn't bothered about what we do this year, we can go round singing about being the champions I Europe which in all honesty I never thought would happen!

First of all - it is not the result! It is the gameplay itself. What on earth was the plan? For the "n-th" time this season teams just defend with 10 bodies against us and go on to counter. For the "n-th" time this season it has cost us.

I expect our management team to know more of our shortcomings, than myself. And as much as this, i expect them to be way better than myself at solving it. Fulham game, QPR game, Corinthians game, WBA game - all alike. Can someone draw conclusions?

Benitez or Di Matteo were not to blame in having the smallest squad in the country. Maybe in Europe, who knows? We hit the slump every November-December for the last 3-4 seasons. This is a result of fatigue. And noone to bring in!!

What the hell is the matter? Can we finally get to proper squad of 25 senior players and juniors on top? We have Cech down out for 2-3 weeks now. We have a useless Turnbull in his place, while our own Courtois is playing for Madrid. We have the worst starting striker in Torres and happily let Lukaku play for WBA, instead. De Bruyne and Chalobah are lighting up Bundesliga and Championship respectfully and we short in numbers all over the pitch.

Pure genius, whoever's idea that is.

Btw. Luiz and Ivanovic shooting to the row Z regularly last night was so desperate.

oscar is talent, but chelsea are expecting too much from a 19 year old. he is technically perfect but need to add strenght to his body.

fernendo torres is not a premier league stuff anymore. even rookie defenders fancy their chance against him. chelsea must get rid of him next season and sign andre schurrle as his replacement.

marin is not a bad player, it was his first start. do not write him off.

Me for Torres would be better.

Sorry..he is 21...but looks much younger... i meant that he should be paired with hazard/ mata. both hazard & mata have more experience than oscar. this is oscars first season in europe, so give lad some time & freedom. i am sure that he will be a super star in coming seasons.

still so annoyed with last night! but we got wot we deserved! wot can u do when things are not going right and the only striker at the club is having a stinker and the best striker u got on the books at the club is on loan at west brom banging in goals! why o why did we go into this season with 1 striker when other have 4! even players like freuz and bamford (when at the club) couldnt make the bench!

now we rotate the team 3 or 4 players a game! why! leave a winning team alone they are confidant why change and bring in fringe players who are trying to prove themself! i want players out there who are confidant from there last win and keep the ball rolling!

gotta bring in 2 strikers ba and recall lakaku

Also Kevin you showed you are no football fan, calling Wigan and Newcastle shocking. Seriously u ain't got a clue! Both teams should be respected they have good managers and a squad that pulls together. Maybe that's what your boys were missing against QPR??

This result is not as bad as people think. I'd rather beat Everton, a team close to us, and lose to qpr, a team nowhere near us. Results like this happen to everyone.

Spurs lost to Wigan.
Arsenal lost to Swansea(and Bradford)
United lost to Blackburn last season

Keep the faith!

Jordan {Ed018's Note - losing to bad teams happens, like you have pointed out. it's normal for everyone to be upset and frustrated about it. just need tosee a good performance on Saturday and get back to winning ways}

Believable6 Unbelievable2

You will get normally a couple of these kind of results each season.

I see Benitez interviewed after the game saying that Torres is in need of a rest. I thought he was just given 90 mins down time?
