Hey guys, didn't watch the game, because freinds and family had a get together, and went to bed at like 2 am, and the game was 4 pm, will watch it soon.

But, it is absolutely refreshing, looking at the match review, and seeing our 2 secondary strikers get on the score sheet. I'm also glad Eden got a goal.

Now, I know this may come across as repetitive but the luis deal is making less and less sense, wouldn't it have been better to keep Bertrand and give him sporadic minutes (I know he probs wanted to leave, but I'm sure we could have brought in a younger cheaper player that would happily be benched). I also feel for Luis, possibly best left back in world last year, to not getting a game when Azpi is fit.

Another note is why do we not cross? I've only seen one or two crossed goals this year from us, and that's Daves cross to costa, and drogba's cross to Ramires.

Apart from that, brilliant victory in my opinion.

Ps - the the guy that said we sat off a little too much, I disagree, when the game is there, we should conserve engergy and not waste anymore by putting more goals in, it doesn't matter when the result is there, if it was 1-0, I'd strongly agree with you

And I would like to see ake against Newcastle tbh, he has more of a future at chelsea

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately Ake is out with a muscle injury for a few weeks mate. I've been impressed with Luis when he's played, but sadly for him Azpi is probably the best all round full back in the prem. If I'm totally honest I'd quite like us to give Bertrand a chance next year. We need a few more English players in the squad and the way he's playing at Southampton, he could easily force his way in. he just needs a chance, he's never let us down ever!

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that we can sit back at certain points. Especially after the 3rd went in. But before that we were constantly losing possession in the 2nd half, there was a period where we could barely string 2 passes together. Had they scored when we were only 2-0 up, they would have had momentum and we could have ended up losing.

I'm not advocating that we should be trying to score 5-6 goals every game, but at 2-0 it can be a very tricky scoreline.

A couple weeks ago we scored 2 early goals against West Brom and we sat back and that was fine. A) because WB were down to 10 men and B) we still kept a lot of possession.

It's ok to sit back and not over commit players ala Arsenal, when in a winning position but only if we don't totally cede possession. Against WB 73% possession. Against Spurs 38%.
Had Spurs been more clinical the result could have been totally different.

Australia MN, sports are tough to watch here. Normal games are at 10:30 pm (early game) and normally 11:50, late games are 1:50 am.

Champions league is usually 4:30 am.

Original post was meant to say game was at 4 am lol

It was a great game which showed our ruthlessness and fortitude. Think we sat back a bit too much in the 2nd half though, although Spurs certainly upped their game.

A minor point but we never seem to cross the ball. The only players who do are Iva or occasionally Azpi, neither of which have are great crossers. Whilst I don't want to turn into Stoke, I felt there were a few times during the game when either Hazard or Willian had an opportunity to cross the ball first time but didnt.

Nonetheless, extremely happy to continue our run against Spurs and 3 points!

For once it's great to see forwards come in and score!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's such a good feeling to know our strikers can actually score this year. All three of them have proven that they can chip in when needed (Costa does more than chipping in mind you)

Agree0 Disagree0

It certainly fills me with confidence knowing that we have a variety of different goalscorers to call on.

All the man united fans laughing at us saying 'you got remy, we got falcao' . :D

And who was saying Didier is finished? :D

Not good, we're going to have to do without Matic this weekend as he picked up another booking. I can imagine that Mikel will slot in there. Now I can only pray that Fabregas doesn't get a yellow or he's out too for Newcastle, and that'd be slightly problematic.

PS: hope Cahill isn't badly injured but I am glad that Zouma can maybe get some meaningful minutes

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Whilst Newcastle have been playing well recently, I think Mikel will be able to do a good job.
I think Cahill was probably just suffering from the knock to the head still, so hopefully he should be alright.
I was actually pleasantly surprised when Zouma came on. I had thought JM might bring on Luiz and switch Iva to CB.
I'd want Fab to get a yellow either in the Newcastle or Hull game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with you on all points there, mate :)
Very happy with the 3 points tonight! IMO it was important that we got back on the winning track immediately after the draw on the weekend. Shows the players are mentally strong enough to handle a less than acceptable result.
Up the blues

Does anyone know whether Ramires is injured?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is fine.}

Please Ramires and not Mikel to replace Matic

Cheers ed

I think with Ramires in the middle we wouldn't be able to control the game. A bit too lightweight for my liking. I'd prefer Mikel actually

Hopefully the legs are well rested and Didier is up for it. Let's go, Chelsea!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well, good first half. Hopefully they can add another one and completely put it to bed.
Hope Drogba's okay, it was a bad challenge by Lamela.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was a pretty good first half in the end. The first 15 minutes I was actually worried, for the first time this season, as we were all over the place.

Hopefully we can score another early on in the 2nd half and we can rest a few players.

Editor-zero-zero-one, De Gea or Curtois.

Who is the better keeper in your opinion?

Other opinions welcome

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - oooooo good question. Last season Courtois defo, but this season he has had it so easy, though he has still been excellent when called upon. De Gea, on the other hand, has been going from strength to strength, as United's defence has got worse and worse. De Gea is having the better season but, if I was to choose which keeper I would want to play behind my defence, it would still be Courtois.}

Think Ed actually summed up my reasoning behind this question.
De Gea has had a fantastic season and has performed some great saves, in large part due to United's defense being pretty bad.
Courtois on the other hand has been much less flashy, but still solid. The way he deals with crosses, I don't think I've seen a keeper better at it. And when one on one with a player, he's very good at making himself big.
The goals he's let in, most of them I don't think we can blame him for. There were some crackers among them. The only thing I think he could improve a bit on is that he sometimes doesn't get the ball away from the danger area when saving a shot.
But to be perfectly honest, I'd take Courtois over De Gea any day of the week. He's still adapting to a new league and a new defense playing in front of him. Remember how DDG was during his first season? That makes what Courtois is doing even better.

I had this same conversation with a friend the other day. De Gea has a lot more exposure however I agree with the praise for courtois in terms of him controlling the box. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a keeper claim such a high percentage of crosses. For our team I'd certainly select courtois because of the previous reason. Both keepers have established themselves with neuer in the top three in the world though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not even close DDG is an amazing shot stopper but he isn't particularly good from set pieces and his distribution is appalling, Courtois on the other hand already commands respect from the def the penalty box is his and he uses every inch of it he is comfortable with not having many touches through out the game and like Ed said is ready when called upon he distribution is fast and accurate IMHO he is only a year or two away from being the best GK in world football.

Cheers lads. De gea is the better shot stopper, that's it imo, in better form though.

Hey ed001, I saw on the Liverpool page that Pearson is looking likely to get the sack, who are they interested in if you know?

(Sorry, I know it's not chelsea, but I can't ask anywhere else)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - we do have a Leicester site! I am not sure who else they are interested in but I do know they have sounded out a couple of managers, one being Rafa Benitez, with an offer of money to spend to make the club competitive in the division. Pulis is another who has received overtures from the owners. I would suggest that they are just shopping around right now to see who would be interested, as they have lost faith in Pearson, mostly due to his own faults. His refusal to consider any bigger name players, in his own words, were why the deal with Cambiasso took so long to complete. Pearson had to be 'convinced' to take him, rather than it being him doing the pushing to get the lad in.}

Interesting! Thanks a lot for that! Rafa Benitez would be amazing, even pulis.

And no way! I must be blind as a bat! I looked twice and didn't see it lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Good lord, there is one, need to go get my eyes checked lol!

Thanks again

{Ed001's Note - old age that is mate! You are welcome though not sure that Rafa will go there, unless they tempt him with a huge pot of money to spend.}

Oi! Better watch what you're saying ;)
