I just saw a compilation video on Kovacic and his impact, I have to be honest I think we have to keep him, he’s only going to get better for me he is way better that Jorginho in every aspect of the game, yes every aspect. I think he and RLC and Kante are the three I’d like to see start a game together in midfield. Kovacic sitting in front of the defense. He is underrated yes he doesn’t score but let’s be honest very few players in the world who play that position have very good goal scoring records. Mordicus only had four for Madrid this year.

He is a must keep, get rid of Barkley and let Mount take his place.

Jorginio isn't going anywhere and him and kovacic are too completely different players.

Kovacic is a great dribbler and can dribble through the midfield linking up to the attack. You can play him in jorginio position but he wouldn't be effective. Especially in the way Sarri wants that deep lying playmaker.

Jorginio is the commander of the midfield, he gets the ball moving from out the back, he invites the press which clears space for people like Kovacic an lotus cheek to exploit.

It's actually quite frustrating to see so many people disregard how important jorginio is for the way Sarri wants us to play. For you to want jorginio out the team, you basically are staying you don't want sarri's long term philosophy implemented into this team.

Just because he doesn't rack up goals and assists people think he's bad, stats like them don't really show how good he is.

Totally agree with ELI. Kovacic in Jorginhos midfield position would work. He’s a better player by a country mile. Far better on the ball. Better athlete. Better defensively. Totally makes sense to me.
You can all moan as much as you want but Jorginho isn’t fit for purpose, his attributes don’t suit the premier league. You need to be athletic to make it in the premier league and unfortunately he isn’t athletic enough. He can’t play under the press.
Midfield 3 of Kovacic, Kante and RLC is our best midfield going forward.

Mc1993 very nicely said mate, I agree 100% with your comments. I'm fed up and don't bother with all of these Jorginho haters. It was only a month ago that all of the pundits and fans were raving about him and saying his one of the best.

I mean the comparison here is literally a joke. Two totally different players, asking Kovacic to play deep restrics the players strength. This isn't football manager where you can put Willian as a left back or Morata as central defender.

i don't agree with all the hate towards jorginho he's a very good player he deserves a bit more credit than he's getting.

Nick he can't play under press? You clearly never watched Napoli under Sarri because that's how jorginio has always played under Sarri.

He's adjusting to a new league and has 10 over players who have never played the way Sarri wants or just aren't good enough.

Happy New Year JD but I think Rudiger could end up being our skipper.

He is having an outstanding season in my opinion.

he seems a little rash at times for me tom but i love him aswell as he wears his heart on his sleeve he's willing to fight tooth an nail for the jersey and he's already a big fan favourite bar the odd couple who thinks he doesn't see danger haha.

Little shout out for Jorginho.

He has been in for a bit of stick recently, mainly because of the popular consensus that Kante should be playing at the base of the midfield.

I thought he was excellent vs Crystal Palace. Controlled the game when in possession of the ball and helped out defensively, when he needed to. MOTM for me.

Kante also had an excellent game. I think he can be very effective in a more advanced position, where he can break up play and win back possession in the final third. The big question mark remains what he does with the ball once he wins back possession, but (once again) a better striker and/ or right sided attacker should give him better options.

Final word on CHO. I know the club won't guarantee playing time, and they certainly shouldn't guarantee it to a kid; but he should be one of four wide attackers next season (Hazard, Pusilic, Pedro and him in my mind) . At the moment he is having a very similar season to Stirling when he broke into the Liverpool team. Great pre-season followed by a quiet first half to the season, Stirling was then given moor and more mins in the second half of the season; I think CHO will get more mins if he stays. I've said it before about the likes of RLC, but it's up to CHO to decide if he wants to stay and fight for a place, he has to have the self belief that he has the ability to break into the side. If he decides a move is the best option for the present then a buy back clause should/ must be insisted upon. I do not think these are decisions for January though - the club certainly needs to know what happens with Hazard first.

Happy New Year Eds and posters.

I agree with most of what you say J, all well put, and Jorginho certainly worked exceptionally hard in defence and giving the team a sense of control when executing short passes and making Palace run around while clock ticked down. Unfortunately though yesterday when he tried the adventurous Cesc-at-his-best killer pass to crack open Palace and when players had made a run they all went astray, and of course his one shot on goal was massively wide. It was left to David Luiz to supply that pass. Let's hope, and I'm determined to be optimistic about this for now, that Jorginho will get his weighting (and direction! ) right with THOSE passes more often as he grows ever more familiar with EPL and if/ when he has regular and reliable striker to fashion an understanding with.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 15:50:49
I think the problem with comparing him to the Cesc killer pass is that you only over remember the good ones - and with the years Cesc has been doing it in the EPL there are plenty to remember him by. You mention Jorginho getting more familiar with the EPL, I think he has fitted as seamlessly as possible to the league; especially when you consider he is in a team in the first year of a complete system transition.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 16:52:42
Fair enough re Cesc and I do think it will be easier for Jorginho to make telling passes when he has the kind of striker to look for on the end of it as CF had in Costa.

Yes, and Happy New Year to you, all others on this site and the Eds.

{Ed0333's Note - happy new fella

31 Dec 2018 12:51:15
The problem is that when Palace eventually left the comfort of defending on their own 18-yard line and started to put pressure on Jorginho, he looked far less comfortable (albeit was only in the last 10 minutes) . Tbh, I thought that Hodgson blew any chance Palace had by defending so deep for so long - it has been shown that the way to beat Chels is by putting pressure on Jorginho - Sarriball then falls apart.

If we lose CHO to Bayern or anywhere for that matter. we’ve failed another player.

Apparently Leipzig are also interested. If the worst does happen and he really wants to leave, i hope we can convince him to go there. Not only would he get much more game time, they'd maybe be willing to allow us to put a buyback clause into his contract as well. There is no way Bayern would allow one in his contract, they could offer more money than Leipzig but i'd rather less money and a buyback clase than more money and not having one. Obviously i'd rather him stay and play, he can do no worse than Pedro or Willian so i understand his frustrations but he's still very young and it's not like he isn't getting opportunities. If i were him i'd stay until the summer at least. Keep learning under Sarri, try and fight for a spot and see what happens with Willian and Pedro in January/ Summer. If they haven't moved on or your position hasn't changed at all, then leave. But i really believe he could play a much bigger part for this team. It's in his hands and Sarri's.

VERY much agree, LondonBlues. I like the fact that we've been putting buy back clauses in the deals (at least that's been rumoured) whenever we've sold young players in the last few years. Genuinely think the board, or whoever does these deals, has learnt from KdB, Salah and Lukaku's case, at least I really, really hope so.

We gave a real challenge for top 4 with united playing incredible again. Sad but it’s showing how toxic Mourinho is, Pogba is playing world class football again and won’t stop playing like this I reckon.
