We not only need to think about the future,but what about now.I don't think AVB even wanted the job in the first place,players alone cannot take the blame for a season that could possibly turn out to be the worst in the last 10 years.If someone said take fourth spot now,I would bite there hand off.Top four is a must.I think a lot of the time it's down to man management.Not speaking to lampard(who has been our best player for the last decade) and explaining why he's not playing,freezing a £50m player in Torres on the bench week in week out.Exchanging Alex for possibly Cahill,when Alex should of been playing before luiz.There is too many unhappy players about the place and this affects performances.Drogba I think deserves a two year deal,he still has a lot to offer.anelka,kalou,mikel,malouda,ferriera,bosingwa and Alex need to go in january(why wait till summer) I would like Alex to stay but looks like he has made his choice to leave.We need at least 3-4 first team players bringing in,with maybe 2-3 young players.Im sorry but I don't believe in giving managers time to settle.AVB is not the man for Chelsea.you look at our play,when drogba plays we try and keep a high line with full backs pushing on.Then get caught out on lack of pace at the back.When Torres plays we sit deep with 10 players behind the ball in our own half,with Torres running around looking useless against 4 defenders on his own.Our passing going forward is so slow.It really is frustrating paying to watch the team I love play so bad.its starting to remind me of when Scolari was here,he lost the fans and players confidence and the same is happening now.I don't think bringing players in January will save our season.In summer do everything possible to get Jose back and give him £150m to rebuild the squad.Twice we have looked good enough this year,against spurs and man city.all other games we were poor and results could easily gone the other way.This is not good enough,we have raised the bar in recent years.Lets not lose pace and wait another 50 years for the good times to come back.Under mourinho we broke all kinds of records and actually at times looked unbeatable.We have never looked the same since.BRING BACK JOSE!!

Hi ed, please tell me this berbatov to chels is lies! He is a player we do not need! Wots goin on? Meireles cahill rodwell even ramieres they aint top class players theres plenty better out there if we want to push for CL these players aint right i think with our current form were scaring big players away from the club and the torres situation aint helping either people forget he was well off form

At least Berbatov knows where the net is,look at the goals hes scored coming off the bench compared to Torres,be a great swap between the two.

Swap Torres for berbatov,no chance.keep Torres and if we need a stop gap until summer what about defoe.Plus ramires is deservedly playing every week.hes a great player.Him,Sturridge and mata are the only ones that look interested this year

Ramires would be a starter for any team in the league.

How can you say Ramires isn't top class?! Ramires is world class....

Scared - That's how i would sum up how i'm feeling at the moment. Scared. I feel we are in the most crucial time of the last 10 years. If we don't start making the right decisions, from the board to the players then we are only going one way and thats down. Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are our rivals at the moment and they are all playing better than us and are on the up. We need to take a serious look at ourselves. From a fans perspective we don't have enough world class players who are 'winners' that will fight to the end for Chelsea Football Club. Players like Malouda, Kalou, Mikel, Alex and Anelka, not good enough and know they are going. Drogba, Lampard, Terry and Cech, they all look past it now, Lampard and Drogba definately are for Chelsea anyway because they do not suit how we want to play. And Terry and Cech have not been performing this season. Then we have players that no matter how good they play one week, they just are not good enough to play for a team who wants to challenge for the best trophies around. Players like Meireles, Fereira, Bosingwa, Hilario and Turnbull. Then you have Essien injured and probably not going to get back to his best, and even if he was too, does he suit our style of play now? And hes 29. Then Ash, hes 31 now, how long can he play at the top for because when hes gone we will miss him massively, he has been one of the best full-backs in the world for the last 7-8 years. That is 16 players who are coming to the end of their careers, are not good enough, or are definitely leaving. How many do Tottenham, City, United, Liverpool or Arsenal have? No where near that number. So those are the 'Definites'.

What we are left with after is Luiz, Courtois, Lakaku, Romeu, Josh, Bertrand, Brana, Ramires, Mata, Sturridge and Nando. Thats 11 players. Nando - May be leaving. Romeu - Could go back to Barca (and if we can carry on like this i wouldn't be surprised if he ran their naked). Lakaku, Josh and Bertrand we are hoping will fill their potential. So at the moment we have 6 players left who are good enough for Chelsea and are here for the long run it would seem (fingers crossed). 5 since Courtois is on loan.

Is it AVBs fault that we are in a situation like this? Myself i think yes and no. He inherited the old players and the ones that wernt good enough so he cant help that. He is also trying to change the way we have played over the last 10 years, no easy task. And he is also coming up against arguably the strongest changing room in football, Avram Grant, Scolari, Carlo couldn't gain full power over the changing room so for AVB too is a big ask and it takes time. But at the same time, he should have known some of the players were not good enough before he came, he should have known how English teams played and no matter who we play that we should be beating teams like Villa, QPR, Fulham etc. He should have made moves earlier in the transfer window and not waited til the last minute. Why is he sticking with Drog and not Nando when Drog is not performing? Where are the young players like Josh, Bertrand and Lakaku? There are so many questions at the moment and not enough answers. We don't just need new players, we need to get rid of old ones, below par ones and the ones with too strong a hold over the dressing room. We need a complete change of mentality in our play and our policy towards youth.

I don't know the answers and i would be surprised if anyone else did, but we all know the problems. I hope AVB has the answers, i'm guessing we will see if he has come the end of January.

Ed002 i know this post seems negative, but this basically sums up our situation at the moment without exaggerating and the tone basically sums up how a lot of Chelsea fans feel at the moment - more questions than answers. Please tell me 2012 will be better. Will there be a big overhaul in the summer? Just your opinion please Ed002 because it is a respected one.

Did you say Terry hasn't been performing? He's been quality...

No comment. It has all been said by the fellow fans. One thing to add which worries me the most; AVB.

Chelsea also poor in scoating players..always failed to bring the targeted players.at last we just bring the players that just on bench at their former club..waiting for january transfer window..hope chelsea can improve all aspects

Let's hope it is not another poor transfer window like last summer. And to bounce off all the excuses that people come up with about feeling sorry for AVB; What exactly happend last summer when he was in charge and we we were waiting for that bongus team assessment that never came? Never seen a team assessement lasting a whole season.

IMO lack of creativity in midfield is one which definitely costing us.. For me when i look lampard for the last two matches he definitely didnt played to his ability..

People like you dont realise there is proper chelsea fans, i wish we never got taken over, we were doing fine before the money, Champions League, Regular FA Cups, no expectations, we'd be like spurs are now. Even before that mid to bottom half of the prem, my favourite times as a fan. The money comes aswel as the plastic fans and the club you love turns into a joke, I hope it happens to your club mate if you find it so funny

Support your team"" i remember when we lost 4 0 to united in the fa cup, but i was happy we got to the final. that was in 94 and then we won it in in 97, i went out and bought blue day on c.d! so just let this re build happen and well be winning again next season for another 8 years after that

AVB, you need to have faith in Torres for him to start scoring. He brings him on for 25 minutes and expects him to scored goals. It just isn't going to happen. Drogba out, Higuain in.

Don't care what anyone says AVB is not the man to take us forward.We stepped forward under mourinho and have taken 5 steps back this year.We need to do all we can to get mourinho back

What I managed to see of the second half of the game via live stream suggested a team many of whose members were putting in supremely little effort and making bad choices and passes. Had hoped in summer for HIddink/AVB appointment, with former as mentor. AVB in eg not talking to Lampard re. not being selected and (if him) silly snubs to Alex and Anelka may have sown own dressing room fate, though there are also some players who simply have not put in same effort for every game for a couple of seasons. This looks likely to be our worse season for many years. Only hope is either a)Team transition is speeded up and produces a team of AVB loyalists who do want to play for him; b)Hiddink comes back in and helps choose his successor; c)The Special One returns with proper control over team decisions. Unhappy New Year otherwise!

I agree.This is not an over the top knee jerk reaction. People keep saying that you have got to give him time. I have not seen one bit of improvement in our play or anything to give us any optimism. We actually have went backwards. Iwill say it now we will not finish in the top 4 and the owner will not be pleased. Chelsea need a lot of players

Were s**t simple as that. No good saying we are gonna do this and do that in the summer cause were not going to be in the champions league then who we are gonna get in. Makes matters worse that spurs and arsenal will be. Is Cahill gonna make that much of a difference. 3-1 to villa is shocking

I have also just read on the official Chelsea web site in an interview where AVB has stated that he had a squad to compete for 4 trophies and it would be incompetent looking at a number of changes. It is absolute incompetence by not looking at bringing in a number of changes. Again so predictable. We pass so slow that we cant move teams out of position. It is so easy to defend against us. So frustarated

Remeber chaps, don't listen to anything AVB says in his interviews. But i would say this. If or when AVB goes, Mourinho is the only man in my eyes who can replace him.

I dont know why torres left today i think he need to play when we play meirelles and ramires on the pitch not when lampard on the pitch.. I also expect hutchinson to get some time
