Chelsea are now very unlikely to make progress from last seasons disapointment ( no cups) Mainly due to being unable to sign pastore which would, I believe become a pivotal and amazing player...

Believable2 Unbelievable4

30 Jul 2011 23:23:46
i think chelsea will paly this team to open the first day of the season
cech
ivanovic terry luiz cole
mikel
modric lampard
johnson torres sturridge
signings
modric £32 m
johnson £17 m

Believable4 Unbelievable1

I think the starting 11 and subs for the first game will most-likely be:
---------------Cech-------------
Ivanovic----Luiz---Terry----A.Cole
-------------Obi Mikel-------------
-------Modric-------Lampard------
---Sturridge-------------Malouda--
---------------Torres-------------

In:
Modric 35-40m
Youngsters e.g. Etoch, Romeu, Piazon.

Subs - Turnbull, van Aarnholt, Benayoun, Drogba, Rajkovic/Romeu, Alex, Bosingwa, Josh Mc, Kalou.

I would ideally have:

---------------Cech-------------
Ivanovic----Luiz---Terry----A.Cole
---------------M'Villa-------------
--------Modric-------Lampard------
---A.Johnson-------------Sturridge--
--------------Torres-------------

Subs - Malouda, Turnbull, Josh Mc, Benayoun, Drogs etc etc.

In:
Modric 35-40m
Y. M'Vila 15-20m
A. Johnson 20m
Possible Lukaku 22m
Youngsters

Ideas?

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see spurs selling modric for less than £35 to 40 million :(

Agree0 Disagree0

None of you have got Ramires even on the bench?? i can see him josh and piazon together for years

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do people have M'villa? That would be a totally pointess signing what with Essien, Mikel, Josh, ramires and oriol romeu at the club. The last thing we need is a deep lying midfielder. I would much rather have Thiago from Barca scored a cracking goal against Man U and is one of the brightest prospects at CM in world football.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think avb likes to play with 2 holding, i dont think we need any more CMs we need a right winger and a right back

Agree0 Disagree0

When it came to putting Ramires in, I thought the deep lying role would not suit his game as much, although his stamina is second to none in the PL. I would rather see him on the pitch instead of Obi Mikel, obviously, and even M'Villa, just wouldn't want him to be stifled by a deep lying role when he is a box-to-box machine. I was just going by a previous post where I said that Essien's injuries may be a time to sell him on, regretably - just see how he is when he comes back. 30, high-ish wages, known injury prone at times and there was reasonable European interest I believe. I think M'Villa, like others, is the 'next Essien' in a way, and obviously want Josh Mc, Romeu and Piazon to get minutes.. just not sure if they're ready or developed enough to play over 20 first team games in the coming season (except maybe Josh Mc after such a promising pre-season). Benches were sort of mish mash, was concentrating more on who I would like to see who was realistic. I forgot Di Maria, who I really like and would probably take over A.Johnson if City decided he was required (which I believe is the case).

why cant anyone make a team without using players the media link us with? like we were linked with neymar and sanchez so every one wants them, do none of you know any one else? same goes 4 pastore

i never heard anyone mention he would be a good signing 6 months ago. i bet half of u haven't seen him play, their is other amazing attacking an better play makers than pastore and modric.we have got a whole world of players to choose from.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Because every time someone spots a gem the info is almost instantly leaked to the media

Chelsea should really consider buying Modric, Turan, Johnson and a right back.
Plus should develop Sturridge into a winger and bring in further youth players (so play Kakuta, Bertrand etc more often).

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Great choices there my friend, totally agree Though as a nice present to the new boss, roman should buy neymar. 40mil is a lot of money...but if he continues to develops the way he has done so far, that's gonna seem like peanuts in 1-2 years time, and he'd bring that magic roman so craves for his team. {Ed02's Note - Sadly buying Neymar is not simply the case of handing over £40M.}

Thought the team played really well today, we did a decent job at pressing to get the ball back and we managed to play some decent quick penetrating football. Doesnt change the fact i feel we need a creative mid and a forward/winger but maybe it can still happen. Keep the faith guys and gals

Chelsea's Number 9

Believable3 Unbelievable0

30 Jul 2011 19:20:30
In all honesty how many fans on here actually believe that Pastore would have been a success in the PL? I for one did'nt and tbh I don't really think Pastore himself thinks he's good enough to play in the PL.Thats one of the reasons he took the easier option and went to France. We should be going for players like Nasri I keep saying it and saying it Hoping that it might catch on. Johnson today for City was a class apart These are the type of players we need to be going for, not unproven foreign players from abroad who are over rated and want to rip us off. I cant even believe that Chelsea were going to pay the astronomical fee set by palermo for the argentine Whats wrong with players like Nasri, Nani and johnson all PL proven for fuk sake what more do the club want?

Believable3 Unbelievable1

30 Jul 2011 18:00:45
Florent Malouda played a superb ball through to Torres earlier much like you'd expect from a world class playmaker with awesome vision...
Unfortunately it was a shot/miskick and this is our problem

i wish we could offload anelka, mikel, and ferreira, and replace them with like for like players but better.
anelka would be a good signing for someone like everton.

my realistic dream team would be

cech

wiel, luiz, terry, cashley

ramires mvilla lampard

ronaldinho, adam johnson

torres

laugh at ronaldinho but hes been in great form for brazil and has a year or 2 left, champs league exp and would be willing to come and wouldnt cost much

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Why would Ronnie want to play for Chelsea? Either way thought i would suggest my dream team for funzies (not hugely realistic but would like to see it)

Cech
Bran, Luiz, Terry, Cole
Ramires, Oriol Romeu, Lamps
Hulk, Torres, Neymar

i think thats about 100mills worth of transfers Nice and realistic..... well maybe.

ED are we interested in thiago alcantara? {Ed02's Note - Please don't just start asking about random names. I simply do not have the time to respond.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

AVB loves him as a player and definately wanted him this summer for his porto plans, i suspect when barcelona sign fabregas we may make a bid to buy him or do like they have done wth bojan to buy him n barca can buy him back in 2 seasons, thou he is very highly rated there so will be very tough

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2011 15:21:59
I think as a whole the chelsea squad now and in the future has some promising talent. If i were AVB or the director of football this is what i would do.

GK

This area of the field we are fine we have one of the best keepers in the world and have a future successor already bought this season as well as a promising up and coming english keeper in Sam Walker.

Buy - N/A

Sell - Hilario £1m - £3m

DEFENCE -

RB -

With the arrival of wallace next season as our back up RB and the adaptable Ivanovic being able to play in that position i really think we are strong in this area. The problem is Bosingwa who is a good attacker is a sub par defender and with Feriera its the other way round. I think a purchase in this area would strengthen the team.

Buy - Gregory Van der Weil £10m - £15m

Sell - Bosingwa £8m - £12m
Ferriera's contract expires next summer so leave him as a squad player.

CB -

Our strongest department in my opinion, with Luiz and Terry starting, Ivanovic as a very good back up along with the promising english defender Nathaniel Chambolah and work permit permitting Slobadan Rajkovic.

Buy - N/A

Sell - Alex £8m - £12m

LB -

Once again a very strong position for us. With ashely cole a world class left back and also promising up and comers in Patrick Van Anholt and Ryan Bertrand were very well covered in this department.

Buy - N/A

Sell -
Ryan Bertrand Season Long Loan

MIDFIELD

CM -

I cant decide if were strong in this area or weak. We have a world class midfield defencive unit, with Ramires and Essien and a role player in Mikel. Attacking and creativity is something thou that we desperately lack and we dont have the youth/pace/creativity that a title challenging club needs. Lampard is still a good player but not the same person of 3 years ago. A fit again Yossi Benayoun is a bonus but to me isnt the answer. Josh McEachran also looks very promising so more playing time this season is a must. Lastly Lucas Piazon will join in January when he turns 18 and he looks like an excellent addition to this chelsea squad a future starter if his talent adapts to the premier league.

Buy -
Yann M'Villa £14m - £18m
Joao Moutinho £22m - £26m
or
Thiago Alacantara - £20m - £24m.
Javier Pastore and Luka Modric are on the list but both look unrealistic now.

Sell -
Michael Essien - £16m - £20m (Nearly 30 years old, has had 2 serious ACL injuries and also with the purchase of Yann M'Villa i believe were getting a younger version of Essien and also saving on wages)
John Obi Mikel - £14m - £18m

LAM/RAM -

Our weakest area of the time by far a lack of creativity, dribbling ability, youth and pace is very apparent. Florent Malouda in my opinion isnt up to par, Gael Kakuta had alot of hype but hasnt been played for one reason or another and even went out on loan. Lastly Kalou is a very frustrating player, he suffers from a lack of decision making and any real stand out qualities in my opinion.

Buy - Eden hazard £18m - £22m
Juan Mata £16m - £20m
Adam Johnson £14m - £18m
Neymar - £36m - £40m

In my opinion Neymar and one of the other 3 if possible Hazard would be perfect.

Sell - Florent Malouda £8m - £10m
Salomon Kalou £12m - £16m
Yuri Zhirkov £10m - £14m

STRIKER

CF -

I believe this season Torres will score 15 - 20 league goals and will finally start reproducing his old liverpool club form. He is 27 so should be in his physical prime and after a full pre season and scoring today against Aston Villa with a poachers finish things are looking up. Also with the resurgent Daniel Sturridge and Nicholas Anelka fighting with Drogba for a starting position we do have strength and depth in this area. However with Sturridge still maturing and seemingly being prep'd for RAM role and the current age of Anelka and Drogba being easily over 30 there is a need to look to the future. The recent acquisition of Gael Etoch from barcelona looks like a very good one so hopefully in the next 2 seasons we shall see him knocking on the first team door.

Buy - Romelu Lukaku £18m - £22m

Sell - Nicholas Anelka £6m + (Due to an expiring contract and high wages, also if we buy wingers we will have the strength and depth upfront with Daniel Sturridge)

This is oviously just my opinion and oviously Chelsea wont go out and sign all 6 or 7 players as listed but a combination of 2 or 3 players from various positions and 4-5 departues i do feel is possible.

Notible mention.

Micah Richards - Expiring contract, connections to london and a english strong powerful young RB. May be similar to Ivanovic thou and Man City wont want to sell to a title rival.

Marko Marin - A german international with excellent dribbling ability and speed. Highly regarded by Werder Bremen and valued apparently in the region of £30m which is very inflated.

Hulk - I personally think he would fit Chelsea perfectly, hes long range shooting, physical strength and natural pace and width he would bring would be ideal for us. But a £100m buy out clause and "apparent" £80 bid rejections make it very unlikely we would be able to afford him. If he was available for anything under £40m i would say go all out for him.

Anyones thoughts or comments would greatly be appreciated. keep up the great work Ed's.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

I agree with most of what you said but don't you think Bosingwa should stay for at least another year?

Agree0 Disagree0

Suppose most of those transfers actually happened the Blues would end spending 70-100m net. Would Roman allow this?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not just sell Benayoun I doubt we will need him that much if all of that happens

Agree0 Disagree0

Superb post and agree with 98% of what you said
I think your right about Marin... Inflated but would be an awesome addition and i think we will definately turn to Moutinho now that other options have failed.
Porto have done well to put Hulk out of reach.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont get me wrong i think bosingwa is under rated but hes attacking ability isnt out of this world and is defense is below standard for a top 4 team. Hes 28 i believe so clubs would still be attracted in him and i believe the transfer few you could get for him would nearly cover what Gregory vdw would cost. Those transfers i posted were what id like to happen in an ideal world, i believe the purchase of mv'illa and sale of essien makes so much sense but wont happen along with the winger situation. Abramovich spent 75m in january so its not out of this world to think he would spend those figures again, plus all those players i have suggested buying all have a resale value. Benayoun is a odd one, i see him as a squad player and someone to bring on 70 mins into a game when your drawing or need someone to fight for the ball and attack defenses but i dont rate him that highly. The problem is you cant have a squad of world class players because theyll all want to start. Marin is very over priced but i agree he would fit our team well and for hulk we can all dream cant we ha

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with most of your points but some of your purchases are unrealistic. Neymar for example seems RM bound, and unless somehting changes (possibly tevez going to RM?) then we wont see him at the bridge. And even if we do i believe he would stay at Santos untill Jan to play in the club world cup. From what i know there is no interest in Mata from Chelsea, and i think Hazard is fairly happy where he is. Adam Johnson... i would like to see him but i think Man City would make it very hard on us, much like Modric, possibly making it impossible. Im also not sure why you want M'Villa, we are in the process of bringing Oriol Romeu into the club, he is a DM/CB, if he fulfills his potential i believe he will be a long term occupant of a midfield position at Chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont understand why you think Neymar is unrealistic? Long shot now maybe but 2 months ago we were heading the race for him, he was saying in the media he wanted to come and we currently have a bid on the table for him. Adam johnson im afraid looks a no go due to manchini saying hes in his first team plans plus i doubt hed sell to a rival. MV'illa is ready now, Romeu is a unknown quantity really hence why barcelona have sold him to us. Concerning that defensive mid position i said bring in M'Villa if essien was sold or for instance had to retire. We need wingers, hazard would be happy in london on 60k a week if lille would let him go, im afraid money talks as weve seen with Pastore :(

Agree0 Disagree0

I also agree with a lot of what you say. If it were possible for a switch deal between Bosingwa and VDW to be done (plus a little cash, I would think), that would be great. I'm not sure if both parties would be or do have any interest in this idea. Our goalkeeping situation looks reasonably healthy, as you say, with new talent in to back up Petr and good, English academy players showing. Hilario to go, but more likely on a free considering age and a somewhat poor reputation (IMO). I have huge respect for Essien and before injuries believed he was the man to make that position his season after season as he was obviously one of the worlds best there. Maybe a replacement coming in when/if Essien is healed to assess future reprocussionsmis probably a better move, with Romeu maybe getting more playing time than initially expected, or hanging on to Obi Mikel (which I would not be a fan of, tbh, as selling for around 10-15m couldn't be turned down, surely?) CM/AM - if we can get Modric for £35m, max, then do that. Not higher, as £35m is already inflated, but we're in an inflated market with other teams being able to splash cash. With Lucas Piazon coming in January, I'd hope he will get bench and 15-20 minutes here and there also. Marin is a great player, maybe there's hope some time in the future. Up front, I think letting Anelka go would be a good move for both parties; free up a little wage bit, get a little money and let the player move on and play in a team format that suits him better and hopefully is quite successful. He deserves that. Lukaku seems like a good longer-term replacement for Drogs, but isn't needed this season with Torres and him sharing ST roles, with Malouda (unfortunately) on the left and Sturridge on the right. With this information, a deal involving a loan back to Anderlecht, or the original de Bruyne/Lukaku package if it were possible. Huge Hulk fan, but don't see it happening with the two clubs, even before price and such are involved.

My hopeful, realistic(ish) team:
RB - VDW(IN)/Ivanovic
CB - Terry
CB - Luiz
LB - Cole
CDM - Romeu/M'Villa(IN)
CAM - Lampard/Josh Mc/Ramires/Modric(IN)
LW - Malouda/Van Aanholt
ST - Torres/Drogba/Sturridge
RW - Sturridge

Bench - Van Aanholt, Drogba (large team role), Turnbull, Josh Mc, Kalou, Mikel, Alex.

Hopefully Mikel to be sold, Kalou to be sold and more exciting players such as Marin and Johnson/Mata to be bought.. but I tried to stay realisitc.

Agree0 Disagree0

And add Benayoun and Jajkovic in to that squad too*

Agree0 Disagree0

It looks like Neymar will probably join Real Madrid and anyway I can't see Cheslea shelling out 40m to sign him he isn't worth it.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have a bid in that region for Neymar on the table atm for the player so there is definate interest in him and to say its unrealistic is false, unlikely yes because his agent wants him at Madrid along with the player apparently now. Hulk and Neymar would be real prospect buys, both young, both add pace and crativity and a bum of seats player which we havent had at the bridge since Arjan Roben :(

no neymar
no sanchez
no pastore
no ganso
no modric
no lukaku
no bla bla

Chelsea in austerity mode. Boss would raise lads rather than buying new ones.

Editor any attacking midfielder left in market?

So we have to see old faces this year also?

previously labelled as for sale like rajkovic, ferreria, hilario, bosingwa, zhirkov have found a new messiah to keep them at chelsea. roman is becoming an ANTIQUE LOVER

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Well Rajkovic never played for Chelsea. If Chelsea goes for VDW we will face biding war with MCFC. Bosingwa is good player in defence not so good but Ivanovic would have advantage even if we bring VDW, simply cause he's much better player. Do not worry that he will leave because he prefers CD position he plays RB in his national team + Ivanovic is happy and contented in London.

To Ed 002
I 've wrote couple of times on this page that
Neymar and Pastore are extremly expensive, risky and still unproven players. Considering that Roman Abramovich would like success soon I do belive
that midfielders joining Chelsea will be Sneijder,
Diego
Striker will be Lukaku. Winger DeBruyne, Ribery.
Ofer for Dunn will be if Alex is a part of deal for Ribery. Rajkovic will probably get wp after all.
Do not expect Bosingwa leaving. Players that might leave are Alex&Anelka. Kakuta will go on loan. McEachran will get more chance to play.
Thank god Chelsea didn't buy Neymar&Pastore, it would be waste of money.

30 Jul 2011 13:04:47
I am actually truely gutted. Looks like the player has gone for money and not to further his career and play in a high caliber league and for a better team. Chelsea have done all they could to sign this player, it is not in the clubs interest to pay him around 180k - 200k a week so he can take home the reported 100k net a week he wants. Hes moved to psg to in a few years barca or real madrid come in for him. Looks like well be looking else where. He would have been a perfect fit for out team thou. truely gutted.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I am afraid they'll keep Pastore and even keep bringing new players(expensive ones). PSG is French MCFC so they won't be selling players to Barca or RM or anyone else. This is new giant, keep in mind PSG is only team from Paris that means something.

As a chelsea fan im dissapointed with no signings of note, but i am a chelsea fan first and formost i will be supporting them all through the season, the club not the players. Lack of signings should mean more game time for josh, kakuta and the kids. i remember the days of finishing 10th and thinking it was a major acheivement, support your club not the players they might sign. eds doing a great job on this site for free so lay off.

dont be plastic, support your club

Proud blue

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I was expecting loads of abuse about this post, seems like the plastics have no voice when faced with reality, i belive we will sign players very soon, but i think it depends on others moving(neymar to rm, then di maria to us, fab to barca, alacantra to us.......and so on) the prem is gonna be the most competitive league in the world with 5 or 6 teams that can win it, so sit in your armchairs and enjoy the ride, its gonna be a close one, bring it on

So we lost Pastore what's the panic. Give Josh his chance with frankie, Ramires and benayoun in the midfield we will be fine. Van Anholt would be an excellent left winger let's give our boys a shot and stop paying crazy money for average players.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

30 Jul 2011 11:48:39
I dont know why we miss out on top players. If its me i would forget modric, have some dignity and get hamsik.. Young, playmaker and i know very well he will be handy for AVB. If we missed out on pastore. This guy is exactly what we need

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Totally agree hamsik is perfect especially 4 lampard replacement, i also like miralem pjanic hes class and thomas muller. what sort of price tags do these guys have? (im nt saying sign all 3) but i dont wanna see josh mceachran have less of chance to play

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2011 11:42:11
Maybe the club could now move for the Russian Alan Dzagoev who plays for CSKA Moscow. Im sure ive read we, ve had interest in him in the past. Still only 21 i think he could develop into a top player.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

He would cost really a fortune CSKA is wealthy club. {Ed02's Note - Chelsea, and Arsenal for that matter, have shown an interest in Dzagoev. I have also suggested that a deal involving Zhirkov moving in the opposite direction may be possible. However, it should be nmoted that there has been no mention of Dzagoev since AVB arrived.}

ambition is critical so thats our season over be for it starts just going to be like the early 90s again oh well lads blue is the colour with our squad id be happy with top 6 if spurs spend and liverpool spending top 6 is realistic top 2 manchester clubs :(

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Dont be such an person m8 5 weeks left of the transfer window left. chelsea fans are acting like spoilt brats, AVB will improve wht he has 2. hes a smart guy, now that the tour is over i think we will sign a rb and a winger or 2 and a creative mid if not josh mceachran will be fine

I think that we should do absolutely everything in our power( Romans millions) and get neymar snijder and Mata or di Maria Show were still atop club competing for best players and top competitions, get rid if Anelka kalou maloulda, give Josh mc an sturridge playing time, and get few squad players in after weve got our marquee signings we were told were signing this week

Cech
Cole. Terry. Luiz. Ivanovic
Ramires
Lamps. Snijder
Neymar. Mata
Torres

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mata? Maybe but I think instead of sneijder chelsea will get pastore. Lukaku is the younger and cheaper option to neymar who looks like he'll probes go to real madrid {Ed02's Note - Pastore has gone to PSG now.}

Last season i can blame injuries and Carlos negative tactics till im blue in the face but the bottom line is we just were not good enough. Back end of the season we had everyone pretty much fit but United still beat us home and away in champions league and blew us away at old trafford in the league when we would of gone top.
Ok there are still 5 weeks of the window to go and things can change but unfortunately with our current squad 3rd or 4th is probably the best we can get. Im a pessimist yes but also a realist
