Well done the kids and well done Jodie.
So many good performances but Rees-James could save us a lot of money!

The more games I watch of the young lads, I never fail to be gobsmacked by how good Reece James is - absolute class.

Superb performance against a very useful Arsenal side. Their counter attacking at pace and moving the ball wide and then 'looking' for players is something the first team could well try and employ. That said, in all youth football there is some much space available something you would not get in senior football and that is where a lot of the youngsters get found out as they move through the ranks.

Good evening Ed, would it be safe to say that Chelsea are looking at signing a new Central midfielder. Two names came up today- Bryan Cristante and Bruno Fernandes; but it is Bryan Cristante that appeals most to me.
Please I would really like your input on both players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes you are, but I have to be honest, I have seen so little of either player I could not give much of an opinion. I saw Cristante twice, he impressed both times but that is not enough to judge anyone. I can't remember ever seeing Bruno Fernandes play at all.}

Ed001, saw your quick post on Loftus-Cheek on the Pool page. I know you thought of him as lazy at the start of the season, but do you still think so?

I've seen him play a bit this season and seems to me like he's doing his job for the team in defense as well as attack. Hodgson's said the same as well, that his off the ball work has improved a lot. I'd say the loan was a great success.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he has improved but he is still too lazy for a Klopp team. He doesn't do a press type work ethic at all.}

30 Apr 2018 20:24:20
Another year of successful loan move to Crystal Palace or another club would make him very ready for Chelsea. He will improve more. I don't support rushing him back next season. Good player.

1 good game and praised by everyone and questioned why not in chelsea side,
Has 5 average game sthat drift by him and nothing’s mentioned as to this is why he isn’t in chelsea side, think chalobah is head and shoulders above him personally,

He's been quite good in every game I've seen him play for Palace. Not as flashy as Zaha, but a very important player for them.

And that's my bad, Ed. I didn't know you meant "for a Klopp team". I thought you meant in general. For Klopp I agree. He won't do the rabid pressing necessary. But at Chelsea in a 3 man midfield? He'd fit in Just fine. He May may not be Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, but he's not 100m worse. Kante, RLC and a guy like Torreira would be a golden midfield 3.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sorry yes I was specifically referring to him with regard to Liverpool. The question asked about whether I thought he would be a good buy for them.}

01 May 2018 10:52:16
Yeah that was my bad, Ed, I didn't read the context of the question thoroughly.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no worries it is easy to do.}

30 Apr 2018 12:55:22
The question here is not who you WANT out because the club are not going to sell half their squad as many would like but confining it to only 4, who do you THINK they WILL offload and who are the 4 you think they WILL target.
I think they will offload Fabregas (past his best), Drinkwater (obviously no future), Morata (unless we secure Isco or Asensio as I think either would help him settle which I believe is part of his problem), Courtois (never felt he wanted to return) . I would target Koulibaly, Bailey (down the line if he works out and Hudson-Odoi makes it we will have an injection of pace), Milinkovic-Savic and depending on the Courtois situation I would try and get Butland ( I think Donnarumma is too young and makes too many mistake albeit a potential top keeper) .

MM: Although I never particularly wanted Pedro he has proved a useful impact player. I don't think he lasts 90 minutes but as 45 minute player with his pace and willingness to shoot I felt he was worth keeping.

With his age I think that’s an area they could improve on, I do like him though, scored some big goals last year for us.

30 Apr 2018 17:09:41
I wouldn’t sell Morata we have invested a lot of money in him and wouldn’t get anywhere near that back for him at the min. I honestly think he could be a star for us, He started the season really well and went off form the second half of the season. it’s his first season and he’s getting use to the league, he does tend to go over easy and have a moan now and again but so did drog at first. He’s missed lots of one on ones that some was easier to score than miss but he’s been getting him self in those positions time after time with a bit of confidence and with luck on his side I can really see him scoring bags of goals.

I guess it depends on the manager situation.
If Conte remains the manager my guess is there will be minimum movement, with the likes of RLC given a chance along with a properly fit Barkley.
In my opinion the club aren’t going to give up on Bakayoko but if, as reported in the press, Drinkwater wants to leave, I guess the club will sell him. What happens with Michy will be very interesting.
If there is yet another managerial change then it’s likely that more players will leave and join but maybe a new manager may well say he wants to evaluate the present playing staff.

Blinky: I agree 100% about Morata and I was over the moon when he signed but there is an underlying fragility about him not least saying he is homesick on a Monday and then denying it and there have been a number of reports about him trying to get Isco or Asensio interested in joining. If a suitable price is forthcoming I think they will let him go.
TomB: Like you I would like Conte to stay BUT to do so I think they will have to listen to his view on transfer business, not necessarily do all he asks but support him and I think there will be planned exits and some surprises but providing he gets the monies to direct their spending he might well be happy. Drinkwater has been reported in Leicester papers as saying he made a mistake but there may well be issues with them and whether the manager stays. Drinkwater as part of a Mahrez move could be interesting.

Firstly, the club will never stand in any players way if they want to leave, as stated many times by the EDS, so until the Season finishes and the managerial situation is sorted out it is very much up in the air. The club would like both Tibo and Hazard to stay and sign new contracts. The club have openly said they expect all the forward players to stay unless they request a move so that would indicate Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Morata, Giroud, a returning Batsy and maybe Hudson-adoi all staying although a loan may happen for him. The club will persevere with Bakayoko because he was some player with Monaco and given time, he is only 22 might be the player the club expect him to be. ED01 has already stated the club do want to integrate a few of the loan players so I would expect Van Ginkel to return and maybe RLC and possibly Tammy as well. Mason Mount is having a fine season as well. The club would allow Drinkwater to move as the signing has not worked and I could possibly see Cahill leaving if 1 or 2 new centre backs are brought in. Other than those 2 we shall just have to wait and see.

G8: Nice to see you are alive and still kicking. If what you say above and don't panic I am not disagreeing with you, we will struggle again next season. There are too many frailties with those players, the squad is not strong enough with the inclusion of those mentioned and we will struggle as badly as this season. Something has to give.

30 Apr 2018 20:53:07
It all depends on how you define "struggle". Yes, we are worlds off Man City but so are most. I expect them to dominate for a few years now just as We have in recent years, as have Man U and Arsenal previously. These things go in cycles. We may still win a trophy, should of reached another final and matched up well against Barcelona in the Champs league. More plusses than minuses for me and a good base going forward. The squad is still very talented, we have exellent players out on loan and watching Jodies boys on TV Tonight we are about to win the FA Youth Cup for the 5th year running! Most clubs would love to be where we are. Our problem this year was Conte losing a couple of players minds and bodies starting with his treatment of Costa. He alienated the brazilians this season and also the belgians. His man management has been very poor and coupled with his inability to change things when needed have contributed hugely to our demise. If we had the Conte of last season we would be a lot lot closer to City. 3 or 4 top players in plus keep what we have plus integrate a couple of loanees and we shall be a force again. Trust me, you know I'm always right😁😁😁😁.

Drinkwater - just isn't working out.
Fabregas - doesn't influence games like he used to.
Pedro - I'd rather see Hudson-Odoi get the 45mins here and there that he gets.

I'd like to see the club utilise youth where possible when replacing these players but we definitely need an experienced, high quality, head in the midfield.

30 Apr 2018 21:24:59
J: My only concern with Hudson-Odoi and I do like him and feel he is one of the few that 'could' progress, he's only 17 and to me that is too young.

G8: What would the club do without your dedication?

I see your point C1955, but he's miles ahead of other youth players. Miles ahead of Sterling when he broke into the Liverpool side at that age too, just as an example. I think he should definitely stuck around the first team rather than go out on loan, deputise for Hazard here and there.

01 May 2018 07:08:42
J. I wish more youth players were around the first team as I do not think the loan system to teams like Vitesse are beneficial other than game time, it is a poor league. Few who comeback ever set the world alight and gradually disappear. If we can kill off games get some on for 30 to 45 mins especially in early League Cup games and see how they cope as we did with Ampadu. The old days with a reserve team would have been a perfect environment to bring youngsters on.

Hey Ed001 mate, great to have your input on here, the site is a lot more active now that you often give your time to contribute.

Not Chelsea related but how do you see Liverppol fairing in the second leg in Rome, as tricky as it is I don't see them scoring three pass you without a reply, I think defensively your boys leave a lot to be desired but for me that front Three of Mane, Firmino (Really big fan of his) and Salah (Huge fan of his too) is one of the best in Europe.

I think that's what we've lacked this season that drive at the heart of defenses. We've lacked balance and players with an eye for goal which Liverpool have in abundance. Chelsea this season have been a bit too slow in attack and one dimensional if Hazard and Willian don't put in the individual work it's almost certain we'd have a torrid day in front of goal unable to convert chances (looking at you Morata) . As an EPL fan i wish you guys the best and I think you lot are pretty much through to the finals and with that attack could pretty well have a go at Madrid or Bayern.

Cheers .

{Ed001's Note - I am sorry mate, I am incredibly superstitious and one of those superstitions is to not get involved with any kind of predictions. I will try and say what I can without getting into that territory.

We are strong in attack, the defence is not too bad, it is the midfield that is the issue, they do not protect the defence well enough. If you look at the first leg, everything was going swimmingly until the midfield stopped pressing and dropped off. Both of their goals came as a result of Milner being caught way too deep. In the first he was too deep to close down Nainggolan so he had time and space to pick out a pass to Dzeko. The second Milner was in the box getting hit by the shot, rather than on the edge of it blocking it. The midfield have to press or it messes up everyone else, as the defence are pushed up to back up a press and the forwards are high to provide an option on the break if the press recovers the ball. When the midfield drops off, they are in the way of the defenders, they are not hurrying the opposing midfield and the gap between them and the forwards is too big to keep hold of possession when the team does get it.}

30 Apr 2018 10:15:33
Good read Ed, what you guys need is a Kante like midfielder some one who can put pressure from midfield and put in tackles and also make bursting runs in midfield which Chamberlain was doing well in central midfield, he was looking sharp unfortunate that he's out now.

And also I totally understand, I'm a bit superstitious too as a fan, as confident as I might be on a game, you won't hear me giving any predictions, infact I won't be looking to talk about the game at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Keita looks like he is an attackminded Kante to be honest. So we should have that sewn up. It is the deeper role that is the issue, with Henderson having long term injury problems, someone is needed to sit in there. Looks like Ceballos is the chosen answer to that though.}
