Prediction for top 4 based on current position.

Man city
Man Utd
Liverpool
Chelsea

Although it might be struggle for 4th. Last time I predicted we would struggle for 4th I was accused of being a troll. As it turns out I was over optimistic and we struggled near the foot of the table until we sacked Jose.

Jose usually gets it right in his second season - Liverpool could crash and burn if Coutinho leaves. A bit concerned about Chelsea's season - Champions League semis and 3rd place in the league - good enough?

I totally get that it's a massive fee and completely get that the club maybe just can't compete financially for that type of transfer, but if this Neymar to PSG deal goes through I think that will be the end to any chance of us signing any similar truly world class and highly marketable players like him for the considerable future (not that I was holding my breath anyway) as all players in that bracket will have similar fees demanded for them.

Not being negative as I still think we can get quality players and compete for top honours, but seeing someone like him moving to the French league shows that there really is only one thing that some players really care about. At least it's not China and we can still see him play against top teams in the CL.

Im not joking and I know we've spent big on morata but that's due to fee's being over board but the Torres deal I think has made us so much more cautious when going for players, we done £50m and he was a flop. ( some might say )

I've said this before but nowadays I feel we go for the good players and don't get me wrong, Kante, Luiz etc are very very good players. But the top top players we don't look to anymore, whether that's the actual case I don't know but from the outside that's how it looks. We used to be linked with all these top players (neymar, bale and so on) . Since the Torres signing things seem to have changed with the way we target players.

02 Aug 2017 21:59:56
I feel Hazard, Costa and Kante when we signed them were all truly top players, so I'd have to disagree with you there bobby, but players worth much more we don't even get linked to really anymore, I'll agree there.

The year before Utd signed Pogba, we pushed really hard for him and I believe we got quite close but Juve didn't want to sell. Last year we pushed hard for Griezmann but his behaviour put us off. A couple years before that we were interested in Reus (before his injuries) but his issues put us off. And we also held talks about signing Messi a few years ago but in the end he didn't want to leave.

Whilst the fact that we didn't sign any of the above may be disappointing, the club has indeed tried to sign the sort of superstar players you're talking about. And it's mostly been down to either personal issues or the fact that the clubs/ players changed their minds and decided to stay.
I wouldn't fault the club for it. The fact that we're seemingly willing to spend nearly £60m on a Left back, should indicate that the club will pay world record fees for top tier players.

We've registered our interest in Mbappe and Verratti - the problem is not that we don't try for them but that, if either Barcelona or Real are interested, the player wants to go to them (can't really say I blame them! ) .

Afternoon fellas,

Just wondering if anyone knows if there has been a Chelsea season review written by the eds? Find them a great read.

I just don't understand some posters on this site going on and on about 'lack of depth' in the squad. They are probably the same posters that have been demanding for years that our youngsters are given a chance. Well 1) Christensen, Boga, Musonda and Lewis-Baker are presently in the squad; 2) the window has another month to run. So, you can't have it both ways - do we buy or do we give the youngsters a squad number?

great post, everyone moans about our youngsters not getting any time on the pitch, how is that supposed to happen if you fill the team with ready made talent, we already have great talent and they never have a chance to get into
first team.

It has to be the right balance, introduce them, not get injury to for example hazard and have boga in and expected to perform asap? That'll do well when media all jump on him, same as Christensen, baker, the pressure to perform and hit the floor running and to still keep winning is moneumental, I bet out of the 4 mentioned 2/ 3 will be gone on loan.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Aug 2017 12:58:40
The thing is you say give youngsters a chance, but we've literally offloaded all of our most promising youngsters. Ake, Chalobah, RLC, Aina and I could go on. The youngsters we currently have in our squad are not of the quality of the youngsters we've offloaded (besides Musonda who I highly rate) . That's what I find frustrating about this window.

Agree0 Disagree2

02 Aug 2017 14:32:45
Christensen is better than Ake, and Baker is better than RLC. You could say that Chalobah is better than Baker but it was Chalobah's choice to leave as we offered him a contract. So overall I fail to see how we've let the better youngsters go.

02 Aug 2017 18:36:48
You could say matic is better than all of them and had the experience, so if youth not good enough why play them. 🎣🎣🎣.

02 Aug 2017 22:08:01
Vcompare our squad to man u. Mickey tarrion. Ibrahimovic. Rashford. Matic. Pogba. Herrera. Lukaku. that's depth. What if kante or bakayoko or morata get injured? We are about 5 players short. But we have been the most successful club so you got to trust the club.

Agree1 Disagree1

06 Aug 2017 11:00:25
well then it all boils down to the great work our docs are doing in the club, our injuries comes and goes as at when expected unlike some other club docs that have there other way round. I think we should vote the wost docs in the premiership, with emphasis on performance. I think asenal docs has my undisputable vote as the wost docs per performance in the league . yours?

Many last year also considered alonso a bad or below standard signing! With Moses also being a fringe player! Now look! Fully trust conte and any signings he personally wants to bring in.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

02 Aug 2017 11:55:13
The key word is 'personally' and how many are his personal choice? He got the best out of what he had at his disposal last year and it worked but it won't work this year. Moses has an advantage in pace over Alonso but both are caught out to often in defence for comfort so making do will not cut it with the heavy schedule they will have and the upgrades several teams have made.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Aug 2017 15:46:28
Well azpilicueta should be able to cover Moses if needed an ola aina can play his part in lesser completions! and we have rudiger to slot into the back three if azpilicueta has to cover at wing back! So think cover for alonso is needed but still enough time to get Alex Sandro in! Great signing if we pull it off!

02 Aug 2017 02:30:27
I was thinking there today with everyone saying we lack 'depth' so we need what I think is two versatile players.
First off I think Sanchez (Arsenal) would be a smart signing. Gives us more attacking options on the wings but can also play upfront. We get the spare striker we might need but also another exceptional winger if needed.

Next I would say Sandro. No need for explanations really but what he give us is more than his skill. If say bako gets injured or Fabregas this means we could rotate Luiz into dm pushing Azpi or Cahill into center cb with Alonso rotating between lwb or cb.

Also let's not forget Willian can also play midfield or rwb. I think we've done well this market. Yes we're lacking a bit of depth that we had last year but let's not forget we have a versatile squad we're not stuck for players in positions.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

02 Aug 2017 10:42:51
Agree that both would be wonderful, but chances of Arsenal selling AS to us very small I'd think. Hopefully we eventually get Sandro, though odds may still be against this happening too right now.

I think if chelsea do not buy a few more players ( don't have to be marquee players ), it will be a hard season!

Thoughts?

In: Bakayoko, Rudiger, Caballero, Morata, + a rejuvenated Batshuyi; Out: Matic and Costa from the 1st eleven - what's the problem?!?

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Aug 2017 11:20:12
Exactly that MDW, all other players gone were fringe players. JT, CHalobah, RLC. All hardly played last year. Only 2 players will leave the 1st team. Matic and Costa. Which we knew since January that he'd be off. Why the hysteria I'll never know.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2017 12:17:15
It's about improving on last season not replacing and not improving. Ake out rudiger in? Strange, costa out morata in,? Conte has issues so fair enough bit still not an improvement, and matic out and bakyoko in is possibly only improvement but yet to be confirmed, huge leader left, extra competition, huge competition in fact so will need quality in depth, hazard is too draw, William hit and miss and Pedro was superb last year, if they have quiet game or bad form we chuck in who? Young player who's not played at this level and hope he takes off. into problem is on here everyone is happy standing still. not kicking on. Not getting world class players in to help hazard or help Kante or cesc or luiz,

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2017 12:27:44
More games this year we've got to have a bigger squad when we take hazard off or he comes off we should ideally be replacing him with someone just as good and that's every position on the field. We haven't got that and in my opinion this was last year as well we could upgrade in a few positions Moses did ok last year but don't think he would get in any other top 5 teams starting 11 tho he did ok last season. Think as the season goes on we may have a burn out with some players but there is a month left in the window so let's see what they do.
