Another poor slow paced boring watch. We have an array of talent being made to be more defensive. We play two holding players but yet concede so many chances to the opposition. Our build up play is so slow. I really hope Costa is not out for a long time as I don't think remy looks like he can be bothered to play sometimes. For some reason when Costa plays the whole team press the opponents defence giving them no time to play. I think if we could bring in greizman he could take us to the next level. We have a good side when we press but when we don't we look awful.

Hey Ed's

Why have Chelsea FC been so underwhelming in this Transfer Window so far?
I get We are the Champions and it can be argued that other Clubs have to make up ground on us but it seems like We are standing still when We should be looking to strengthen further.

Is it down to a new austere approach from the Clubs Hierarchy or just that players We covet are unavailable?

Thanks in Advance

Falcao, Begovic, Kenedy, Pantic, Nathan, probably Rahman, probably Leon Bailey, bidding for Stones . how many would satisfy you?!

02 Aug 2015 23:41:39
Mrs Costa, u show be more sympathetic.

Of course the signings he mentioned are first team or starting 11. And those players u mentioned only have 2 players in that category and they are judged as replacements, one is a lower level goalie and the other is a player that just a disappointing season. To be honest, i'm not satisfy with those signings.

The match tonight also showed some areas need to be improved.

Not only him, but I think many fans wonder that. But I think we should explain for them, not criticize.

@Blue_Nose: the players that we want to buy is overpriced or the price was over the jugdement of the board (Pogba, maybe Stones) - don't want to move (Koke) - just sign 1 year (Griezmann) - in finishing process (Baba Rahman)

Agree0 Disagree1

03 Aug 2015 00:06:18
It's ok Daton, I don't offend that easily and Mrs Costa is rite when they list a number of players We have signed.

However how many of these players are going to gain the Managers trust? Half the players mentioned are going to be shipped off on loan and the others are understudy's at best.

I remember in Carlo's 2nd season instead of reinforcing whilst in a position of strength, we looked to streamline the squad and didn't Win the League again until last Season.

I am just curious why We haven't (seemingly) pushed harder for the players We need.

Thanks for Your replies though folks.

I didn't mean to criticise, Bluenose - but we did win the Prem at a stroll last season with these players. I think we did try for Griesmann but he's only been at Athletico for a season and they didn't want to sell which is fair enough. It is very difficult to find available players who are good enough to replace anyone in the team so we buy cover players and potential. Also, and very importantly, we will hopefully see Lewis-Baker and Troare promoted this season - something we have all been calling for for years. And hopefully Kenedy will get a work permit.

{Ed018's Note - Baker is at Vitesse}

Not too disappointed in the result as it's mostly just a friendly. Both teams were pretty poor offensively, it was only a great shot that saw us undone. Only 2 shots on target in total in the first 60mins.
Hazard was missing the entire game. Remy ruined our first half imo. Even when he wasn't caught offside, he was still stood offside offering nothing.
Ramires should have scored. He gets into some great positions but he hardly ever scores and I don't think he's a great tackler.
We definitely need a new RW, or Moses/Traore/Cuadrado, someone who will stay out on the RW, needs to start as Iva is soo poor offensively and as such, teams can just ignore that side and focus on Hazard.
Also thought the ref was a bit poor imo. The decisions he made were pretty much all correct, but let so many things go.

The result was always going to ge be more important to us than you, you won't take us anymore or any less seriously because of today but I think for us it raises our self confidence just that little more.
Everything I know now I knew before the game, we are the most resilient organised and disciplined we have been for years and Chelsea are without question the team to beat.
For the first time in years Arsenal fans who don't have rose tinted glasses can join in excitement

Arsenal did it well, so fair play, gunner62. You defended very well and Ox' shot was a rifle! Just unstoppable. And in the end that was the difference.
We'll be fine this season, and Arsenal will as well.

02 Aug 2015 16:47:45
You say that but it is an opportunity to put a marker down against a rival and get a trophy on the table but I am baffled as to why we look so off the pace. Arsenal are dangerous going forward but we are not really exploiting an average defence. As you said, so many players completely off their game it is a little concerning.

02 Aug 2015 16:48:01

02 Aug 2015 21:11:19
I don't really understand the negativity - we played ok, better than the Arse. A schoolboy error by Dave (show him on the outside ffs!), 2 missed sitters (Ramires and Hazard), dominted the game from the 20th minute on - what's to be down about!

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 21:47:23
We lacked creativity again we showed the need to buy a good right midfielder as rami isn't a right mid and clearly Willian isn't good enough going forward I believe we should buy someone to help matic out In midfield and push fabregas on so if matic ends up suspended for example like he did last year for Newcastle game it shows our lack of quality in the squad as we have no good back up for the defensive mid role only mikel and we all have the same opinion on him USELESS BEYOND BELIEF our bench looked strong on paper but was it really? Cuadrado what a waist of money just like Salah the 2 of them combined we could of got Reus or someone of that class I trust in Jose I just hope he gets that extra bit of funds to strengthen

Today was unimportant overall, yes we don't want to lose but does it matter. There were good performances frm willian who I think is worth his place. I thought ivanovic was poor, he always gives them way to much room and his passing was poor. Hazard was quiet but had 2-3 players on him every time he got ball. They need someone else to take set plays cesc must have not got past first man about 6-7 times today. Arsenal won every cross even petr looked comfortable when we hit balls into area and that is week part of his game and we didn't exploit it. Thought remy was lazy and uninterested. Matic good again. But concerned how we let teams run at us on edge of our box inviting them to shoot, need to close down quicker.
Only disappoint ment for me moses not getting more time he has been good pre-season.
Anyway heads up we will be fine next week

They've been the better side, no excuses, but this massive Wembley pitch suits Arsenals game much better than ours. No wonder they have Duce a good record here.

02 Aug 2015 16:19:49
They have a good record here because they played against shot teams let be brutally honest about it second half is all Chelsea and we should have had at least 2 goals now that we wasted instated

02 Aug 2015 15:50:25
Remy is having an absolute nightmare. Maybe the effects of a later shorter preseason. He was caught offside 5/6 times, and it wasnt even from making runs. He was just being lazy. Not exactly what you want to see from a player who said he wanted more chances.

Ivanovic can't cross (but we knew that). I think Ramires has looked okay, Willian has used his pace very well and ran at players.

Half time- put on Falcao or give Remy a massive reality check with a boot up the ass!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed018's Note - I'd put Falcao on. Remy has been poor}

02 Aug 2015 15:55:08
Still not a fan of Ramires myself. He just doesn't add much to our game. And then he gets into a good position and completely fluffs the finish. That header should have been in.
Fabregas has been poor as well and I'm disappointed that Oscar didn't the game. We look so much better with him on the pitch.
Second half needs to be better.

02 Aug 2015 15:59:38
Arsenal defend line really looks solid today.

They are exploding our left flank, which its strange cause normally Dave is really tough to get over. Maybe because Ox is so good today.

Hazard was marked strictly that he has no space at all. Our attack on the right wing is still hopeless with mostly meaningless crosses from Brana.

Any thoughts guys?

{Ed018's Note - has to be one of the crossing fullbacks in the league}

02 Aug 2015 16:15:48
Never thought I'd see Arsenal better than us in every position on the pitch, maybe we are a bit behind them regarding fitness & sharpness but I haven't seen such a poor first half in a very long time! Willian is the only exception for me as he actually looks up for it

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 16:32:56
I think everyone is seeing it the same way. Remy was a huge disappointment and as I have said numerous times, I have no idea what Mourinho sees in Ramires. Costa's injury is a worry for the rest of the season as there is every indication he will not play week in week out or finish games which is a great opportunity for Falcao but we will be lacking penetration which is what is happening now. Everyone has moved on, whether it will be good enough time will tell BUT to date, I do not think we have.

U can't win a league 2 years in a row without improving the squad which is something we haven't done let's be honest our Tempo is slow Oscar is useless I dunno what any of ye see in him Ramires is t good enough Willian might aswell be a right back he offers zero going. Forward

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 17:30:39
Magic: For the want of getting hammered by others I agree as I said earlier we do not seem to have progressed at all and as a counter attacking team we are too slow and our link up play non-existent. Regarding the players you mentioned, Oscar does not appear to have progressed a great deal from last season albeit he was only on for a limited time but I would expect him to have some impact, Ramires I have made my feelings known time and again and I am huge fan of Willian but his tracking back is overtaking his attacking play and the position behind him needs sorting out quickly. Bad day at the office for all.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 18:34:37
FFS if you at least understand football as a game you should know that crosses come from the wingers if you of course play with right&left winger.
Backs are crossing when you play formation without wingers.
Ivanovic is joining attack from time to time and Azpilicueta almost never. It's not because they don't want to but because Mourinho told them how to play.
Better focus on our wingers as they are totally useless as wingers. They play as attacking midfieders because they are AMs by nature.
Wrong formation with wrong tactical approach is killing fantastic squad that Chelsea has.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 21:51:54
Antibot u have a fair point about our fans criticism of brana going forward if Willian was doing what he should be doing we wouldn't or shouldn't be relying on brana to get crosses in and please keep hazard out left and let him bomb at defences like last year but teams are going to do what arsenal done today and put men behind the ball and I feel we will struggle a lot more this season because of teams using tactics like arsenal today but again I hope Jose has a plan b and we stop buying players like cuadrado and leave them waist on the bench why not spend the extra bit on quaility like Reus

Ed018 officially Traore was Chelsea academy player from 2010-2014 ( age 15-18), under homegrown regulations player has to be at FA club for 3 years between age 15-21. Knowing all those facts is Traore going to be homegrown player?
Thanks in advance.

Season hasn't started and it's still the same story with Costa and his hamstring. Despite a full summers rest, the problem is still there, and looks like something that will continue for the rest of his career. We have to hope that Falcao gets back to his best, and Remy stays injury free.
