funny

Dortmund won’t finalise Aubameyang transfer until they get Batshuayi off Chelsea who won’t finalise selling until they get Giroud off Arsenal who won’t finalise selling until they get Aubameyang.

15m for Giroud would be a great bit of business. He's a very decent hold up player, great strength and always gets amongst the goals. Would certainly give our opponents something different to worry about.

I think Giroud is decent. But I still want to keep Michy.

After the deal for Edin Dzeko collapsed, Chelsea acted quickly to find another striker. The Blues reached an agreement with Arsenal for Olivier Giroud on the basis of £15 million plus bonuses. The deal will be completed once Arsenal addresses the remaining details in the Aubameyang transfer, in fact Borussia Dortmund could replace the Gabonese striker with Batshuayi.

If this source is true then for 15 milnhe would be a bargain. His a good back up striker. let's be honest chelsea won't replace morata and rightfully so. If than man can sort his finishing out he will be quality.

Apparently we are close to signing giroud, and with us loaning michy to Dortmund ( maybe ) we are literlally paying half the fee and supplying the replacement for aubameyang to join arsenal. Joke club really is, and Lucas Moura 25m agreed with spurs and psg. So that's 2 rivals strong hung and is stagnant, ed please answer this. are the board so reluctant to add top quality because they don't know if conte will be there or just because they want value for money and have set prices and won't budge?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Aubameyang is trouble and no one but Arsenal were willing to take the risk. Moura is not quality, he runs very fast in a straight line, usually before putting the ball out of play. Have you thought perhaps Chelsea did not want them because they are not top quality? Giroud has shown himself to be a very good option off the bench at Arsenal, I don't see why there would be an issue with you signing him?}

29 Jan 2018 19:18:57
No issue with giroud as I said on here we should be linked to him but £35m is rumoured fee, and I worry that we lack pace and goals from other areas of the pitch, it is hard seeing players I think we should sign and like I say Chelsea just may not be interested but also we don’t seem to even be linked with top players at the moment,

I'd love Giroud here imo. For what we want he's most likely the best option out there. Was never bothered about Auba as his game relies a lot on his pace and as Edd said he comes with baggage. Personally never saw this happening but it seems it may be because Arsenal are relying on our Batshuayi to go to Dortmund so Auba can go to Arsenal if I'm not mistaken? . Maybe £30+m is a bit much but as long as we're getting what we need i could care less about the sum, it's not our money! .

I can understand where ed1 is coming from in terms of the space Auba needs to run behind the defence. But he has a tendancy to score goals and quality will eventually break defences.

For us we have Emmerson and Giroud to look foward to. Giroud may do a job but at 35 mil it is ridiculous.

There is no doubt that with a squad not strong enough to challenge across the board that we cannot pick up one or two £40m-£50m players to supplement the team as others are doing. It is baffling that we would pay £35m for Giroud or £30m for an 18 month contract for Dzeko or see Palmieri at £20m as a risk worth taking when his potential has never played out in Europe and once again we are attracted to a player either injured or coming off an injury.

29 Jan 2018 20:23:24
Maybe the new plan for our board is to target injured players so that we could get them cheap. If Emerson went to Juventus and gives a decent/ average season then he comes a 50 mil defender. I would say Emerson is worth the risk. It paid off with Alonso and Azpi. Or it could turn out wrong like Rahman. I think Zappa is improving his game, if he can suit his defensive duties out then he may be alright.

Giroud probably will do a job. That man is good in the air and atleast can play in champions league. let's be honest, we would rather him than Batshuayi for the time being.

Barkley, Emmerson and Giroud in this window is alright, nothing more.

Think Giroud will link up better with hazard and Willian, more so than dzeko. He is used to Arsenals intricate play apart from also being good in the air.

Shak, where does Ed say anything about Auba and needing space? He said he has issues which only Arsenal were prepared to deal with.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think I said it on another thread, that Aubameyang is at his best when he has space in behind to run onto a ball. Kind of like Remy. Scored goals before he joined you but then suddenly found himself having to try and do more than run onto balls in behind and was simply not good enough to do that. While Aubameyang is a lot better than Remy, he is still not suited to playing against packed deep-lying defences.}

30 Jan 2018 13:34:21
That’s why we need a big man upfront. Someone to hold the ball up because neither Michy or Morata can do it. Hold it up to bring the likes of Willian, Pedro and Hazard into the game. Makes sense to me and watching at the bridge on Sunday highlighted this even more. We only have 1 way to play and if the defence like the majority of them do now and play behind the ball, we sometimes find it difficult to break teams down. Need to mix it up a bit more.

Hopefully Giroud will provide that if he signs.

I'm. quite excited by the prospect of signing Olivier Giroud to be honest. yes he's the wrong side of 30 but I my eyes he has been
very unlucky not to be Arsenal. first choice. always scored goals. when he has played, good target man and can score all sorts of goals. I'd rather have him. over Dezko.

wht do people think?

There will be another twist in our search for another forward.

I’m fuming with it to be honest, I like giroud and was very keen for him to be 3rd choice / target man, cheeky 10/ 15 million bid or a loan but he rumoured 35m fee and us possibly loaning michy to Dortmund is doing everything we can to help them strengthen with a top striker who we should be in for.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - why? Aubemayeng needs space to run into, similar to Loic Remy did. He is the wrong player and is almost a carbon copy of the striker they bought in the summer, who also hasn't worked out yet because he needs space in behind to run into and onto a ball. They are not the right players for top clubs as opponents mostly defend deep and deny space in behind.}

29 Jan 2018 19:52:08
Personally i would have preferred better. But from them 2 i probably would prefer dzeko. But then again as a target man giroud is a threat.

29 Jan 2018 20:15:35
Actually giroud given that he can play in champions league.

I think Giroud is very underated as hasn't been given fair treatment. plus my comments above?

wht u think ed001? or is that just me.

{Ed001's Note - I am with you mate, especially for a team that puts so many crosses into the box, he is about as good as it gets. His hold up play is very good as well.}
