IMO!
Unfortunately most of people do not understand what is the problem with Chelsea game at the moment.
1.Wrong formation 4231 is highly defensive formation which relays on counter attack for that you need very quick players. Hazard and Mata only look fast but with the ball they are not really.
2. inverse wingers is good when team has domination in a midfield and presses other team to defend. But in open game left footed player should play on the left and right footed on the right. Watch Bayern how they played last two years. They know exactly when Robben should on right and when on the left side as well as Ribery.
3.With given players at the moment Chelsea should play 41221=433 for some people or 4141 as JM played against Hull, probably majority didn't notice at all.
4.Experiment against MU didn't work Cleverly, Carrick and Rooney created more dangerous situations than Chelsea 5 men midfield which looked slow and sterile.
5.Schurrle can play support striker or winger but he can't play lonely CF. No doubt he is above averaged player.
6.Can someone enlight me what was the purpose signing Willian for 30 mil. if there is anything that Chelsea has are wingers and AM's.
7.Hazard is ABSOLUTELY overrated. I have watched most of his games last 3 years at least as well as I've watched KDB's games for the same period conclusion is that KDB is progressing and developing much faster than Hazard. He should play CM or CAM not winger since Chelsea has so many. The other player who is far better prospect is Oscar, also should be played as CM or CAM but he needs to get more physical strenght-one day he might be the best player in the world.
8.Mata was brought as long term replacement for Malouda, due to lack of creativity in Chelsea's midfield he ended up as a playmaker. At this moment he is going to have hard time at Chelsea due to competition. I am afraid he might be forced out as he wants first team football.
Just wanted to share my thoughts with other people.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We looked better last year

Agree0 Disagree0

Hazard overrated? Hazard not that quick? Are you sure it was Eden Hazard you've been watching, not his dad?

Agree0 Disagree0

4231 can be defensive but it can also be an offensive formation aimed at retaining possession. The difference between the Utd game and the first two was how the players reacted off the ball. Against Hull and Villa we pressed the opposition very high up the pitch, whereas against Utd we allowed them the freedom to use the ball in their own half. Different games will require different tactics, and I wouldn’t get too hung up on the idea of a rigid positions and formations either, as it changes constantly throughout the game (e.g. Oscar spending much of the match dropping deep to collect the ball and how the 3 behind the striker constantly switch roles). We didn’t threaten at Old Trafford, but we also looked comfortable without the ball, which is a marked improvement from last year.

I don’t really get how you believe Hazard to be overrated and slow. The kid’s had a good first season in English football and is one of the quickest players in the league with the ball at his feet. He needs to find more consistency, and sharpen the defensive side of his game, but there are encouraging signs with both from the back end of last season and the start of this.

Mata isn’t going anywhere. The stories are pure conjecture being regurgitated by the media in response to the fact we signed Willian. He has been injured and missed preseason. End of. He is the best player at the club, and I’m pretty sure anyone asking to loan him for a season would be laughed out of Stamford Bridge.

I personally don’t understand why a lot of people on here are being so negative so early on in the season. 7 points from the first 3 games, with our trip to Old Trafford out the way. Granted there are a few things that haven’t worked out (Schurlle in the Utd game), but at least there are more options within the squad. My only major criticism so far is lukaku’s lack of minutes.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not negative. I truly believe JM will get the best from players he has. As you said to keep rigid formation is wrong and that exactly happened against MU. Hazard is overrated compared to players like KDB Ramirez. Is he slowing CA yes he does. He simply likes ball too muchand gets rid of a ball slowly. Is he talented yes he is. But he's not good as some people say. Sorry I didn't mention van Ginkel he amazing prospect, JM will help him to become fantastic player one day. About formations 4231-41221-42121-4141 are actually 451 with differently placed midfielders. Chelsea is better team than MU and should played more offensive and win the match. On the other hand maybe JM was happy with a drew, as he probably finds game against Bayern more important.

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem is the two centre mids. It's obvious for all to see. Slow balls to the attackers, causing attackers to be closed down so quick. Lampard passing back to Cahill or terry then the other team are defensively ready and behind the ball. Slow tempo ain't no good. Lamps has been poor. Also missing mata playing central.

Agree0 Disagree0

What have u been smoking over there ness? Only concern is the lack of minutes for our recognised strikers and we need Mata back. Everything else should be gravy for now. Saying Hazard is overrated is just crazy, no one is saying he's Messi or Ronaldo at the minute but boy does the kid have potential to be up there. If you have watched all his games for the last 3 seasons you would have seen him change a game in a flash of brilliance many, many times

Agree0 Disagree0

I've pointed that Hazard is overrated compared to players like deBruyne, Oscar, Mata&Ramirez.
MU game outstanding performance John. Terry, Ivanovic and Cahill.

Agree0 Disagree0

I, yet again, disagree with basically everything u have just said ness.

You all seems to be beating about the bush, As at NOW Chelseas lack of dominance or attacking struggle is all down to MOU given LAMPARD a helping hand, mikel will be better option talk less of Essien, V.Ginkel, KDB and or oscar, Lampard is old and tired he should be a super sub. Whenever we are winning we introduce him to finish the game, he don't pass the ball up front, he don't look for that killer thru pass or that final pass anymore, he is now working only for himself not the fans or club, he pass the ball to the sides when he thinks he can run in for short or backward so that he can go, his ability to hold the ball for 10 seconds to creat space for team mate is gone, his his ability to dribble pass a single opponent is gone yet he gets the nod ahead of all the natural Def Mid he have, WHAT ABOUT THE SAYING THE CLUB CAME FIRST" Some fans are hypocrites, Lamps is pass it. BUT DOES THAT AFFECTS HIS LEGENDARY STATUS, ABSOLUTELY NO, HE is a LEGEND and a FAN his family are also Addicted Fans, But he is pass it he should be given minutes when we overwhelmp our opponents, so that he preserve his ENG position for the world cup which I am pretty sure is what make him persuade CFC to offer him 1 year ext. Nothing to do with MOU being named manager, and MOU lend a helping hand to his most loyal and faithful student. At the start of pre season he said lamp being ild can only manage 35-45 min. Maximum at the highest level, but I became apperent he cannot be in the ENG squad with that minutes, that why he is in while VG, Essien, mikel are out, in all honesty he should tried as a sriker not a holding mid.

Wow can't believe the hate people have for torres think people need to chill out, ok its not worked for the lad but he's put the effort in towards the finish of last season. Hope we sign the porto striker if anyone. Ba left out of squad last night so would think he is leaving. People also going on about not playing people were a couple of games into the season again people need to chill. And finally people on here only a few saying jose won't lmprove the team need to look at themselves and think ( do I really no anything about football) I no people have there own opinions but that's silly. {Ed018's Note - I don't think it is so much that people hate Torres, it's just time for him to move on}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Honestly I think u should be the one to check yourself. Seriously when the likes of mikel, ba, moses, or bertrand you don't stand up for them but why for torres The whole world knows we chelsea fans have been more than understanding with torres and we've supported him and cheered him on. I mean no other player gets that. He is hopeless atm and to be honest should be off . No other top team would still have him he should move on for his good and more importantly for the good of the club. that's the truth sadly the sad one for us we should accept he was a mistake and move on. Hopefully we can get in a deadly striker. Come on chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

JM have explained Torres situation very precise.
Stop deluding your selfs with striker issue. Torres use to score 20+goals per season at Liverpool, Ba scored 14 in half a season for NUFC and Lukaku scored 17 at West Bromwich. They're all excellent strikes. The main problem is midfield. They should provide quality pass or crossing to strikes. How many proper balls had Schurrle or Torres last night? 0 . Stop nagging how Torres or Ba should leave. Look what is happening with Sturridge and just remember how many of you were happy that he has been sold.

Arsenal fan in peace.

Does anyone think that Juan Mata will be sold. I know that we were close to doing a deal with him before he went to Chelsea. I personally would love to see him in an Arsenal shirt, do you think that there is any chance? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No and no. As Ed002 has said, Moses is available as a result of Willian signing. Mata needed to get back to full fitness again after his summer excursions and last season and he has now done this.
Even if he was available he (Jose) wouldn't want to sell in London I think and would look to include him in a deal for someone from abroad.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's nice to dream ;) personally I don't think mata is going anywhere let a lot to arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jose has said multiple times, "Juan is very important to me and the team", "juan goes nowhere", "there is no speculation he isn't going anywhere."

so i'd say he's staying.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata has played non stop football for two seasons. With the euros and confederations cup and almost all of our games for the last two years. he's rested for a couple of games with a niggly injury and suddenly he's off. You don't sell your best players and he's our best.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with you spready. I think the same principles apply regarding David Luiz as well.

yesterdays game was risk free we was supposed to be playing mata and de bryne should be on the bench. moses should have come off the bench with lukaku, ba, essien,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 17:16:34
dont know why we are buying so many midfielders when we have moses, de bryne, mceachran, essien, piazon who need a chance. why is torres still here and get so much chance when we have ba and lukaku.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

27 Aug 2013 17:10:57
we need to get rid of torres and start playing ba, lukaku and mata 3 top players wasting away on bence if we played them yesterday the result would be different

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We're three games into the season. Mata isn't wasting away on the bench, he played 45 mins pre-season and had an injury recently. Ba proved the other night he isn't good enough to be starting games. As for Lukaku I'm sure he'll get his chance this season as will a number of other players who haven't started any of the three games we've played so far. Stop worrying about such insignificant things, Mourinho knows what he's doing!

Great to have you back ed002!
Quick question about the striker situation with you saying eto'o looks unlikely and Martinez complicated, is suarez a possibility? I wouldn't have thought so but not much would surprise me now! Cheers {Ed002's Note - Chelsea were approached by his representatives and showed no interest then.}

Hi guys
Liverpool fan in peace! Just wanted to know your opinions on a possible swap deal with Suarez and mata, I think it makes sense and could be good for both party's, with us needing a quality attacking mid, and you a striker. Cheers an I'm 100% behind u guys to knock the Manchester teams of there perch!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Non-starter. Mata is not available as the Ed's and Jose have said and he doesn't want to leave. Willian coming in doesn't change this. Moses would be available for a loan or purchase as would Ba and Torres. So how about Suarez for Ba, Torres, Moses and £20 million? No deal I'm guessing.
Personally though I wouldn't want Luis 'Vampire' Suarez anywhere near the club he is everything that is bad about current football in my opinion regardless of his excellent skill he is a person.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 18:01:48
I'll take Mata-Suarez swap anyday. Makes perfect sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

Even if both clubs agreed, mata is a champions league player, couldn't see him wanting to join liverpool

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course you would basics. You support Liverpool and Chelsea. Still can't get my head around that

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata is class, everything you'd want in a player, perfect ambassador for the club, why would we swap him for an absolute tramp.

I was about to post what u guys are discussing here but hopeful am happy Ed018 and some of blue fans thought the same.

We should forget Rooney and go after Jackson, Porto is very tough club to negotiate a deal with but with the 30-35 mil they are demanding if the newspaper's are telling the truth, then I think we should take the long shot and grab him, If we paid 50mil for floppy Torres
then why can't we pay 35m for a prolific striker like Jackson.

Considering the fact that we are now playing one top striker, I thinking keeping as many as 3 strikers means one of them would see the bench for a long time. I guess we should really say good bye to Torres because a striking force of Lukaku and Jackson should be enough and it would get the best out of Lukaku because he would get enough playing time.

In case of emergency we could probably use Schurrle as cover up, at least he would perform well when we meet gillingham in the capital one cup LOL.

Out - Ba, Torres, Moses.

I would have two way attaching force in

A. Hazzard - Schurrle - Debruyne - Lukaku
B. Willian - Oscar - Mata - Jackson.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I reckon most of us want to see Torres gone. But who in his right mind would buy him? Maybe a russian or american club would be willing to pay his vast wages, but I think Torres himself still has lots of ambition so he'd probably reject such a move. Maybe it's a bit harsh on him, but all Torres is really, is deadweight.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Torres bashing on this site is relentless give it a rest

Hello ED002 welcome back,

Just wondering if there was anything regarding the stories doing the rounds today about a possible bid of 30 mil plus Fernando Torres in exchange for Luis Suarez, I remember you saying a while back his representatives had to spoken to the club at there own request and with the Rooney option looking more and more unlikely could the attention turn to Suarez?

I was also curious if you had any information of what might happen now regarding Bruma I understand his case was rejected and that has of now is still a Sporting Lisbon player, are we still interested?

Thank you for your time. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea about a swap. Chelsea remain interested in Bruma for the future.}

Mata played v villa and wasn't affective as much and clearly not fit, that's it Jose has said enough time his not going anywhere so let's stop worrying, Rooney in that form was superb but as it looks like his staying at utd to be put back on bench when window closes who are we going for, I really hope eto'o is not our back up plan, eto'o of 2/3 years ago yes but not now, I can only see jackson Martinez or benzema nut both unlikely, hopefully Willian on bench v bayern

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So it seems Rooney won't ask for a transfer (as it was a bit to be expected after last night). Who would everyone (realistically) like to see brought in?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jackson Martinez, although I'm not completely convinced, he seems like the best option on the market as it stands. My main hope is for Lukaku to get his chance in the team. {Ed018's Note - I think between Lukaku and Jackson Martinez we would be fine. Time for Ba and Torres to move on}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed018, you think we'd be fine with 2 strikers (Lukaku and perhaps Martinez) and Schurrle as cover for them? Or do you think the club would try to buy 2 strikers if they were to sell both Torres (which I can't see happening) and Ba?
Personally, I think it would be sufficient with 2 strikers and Schurrle {Ed018's Note - I think we would be fine with 2 strikers and Schurrle for cover}

Agree0 Disagree0

Are we interested in Jackson Martinez then, {Ed018's Note - yes}

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately it looks like we are stuck with Torres, no one wants to buy.

Massive wages and poor performances have left us stuck with him, how long does he have left on his contract?

Could anybody tell me why juan Mata is not playing and all the gossip that he is to be sold why he is our best player over past 2 seasons .I for 1 will not be very happy if he is sold .thanks for your time ed {Ed002's Note - He has been injured and has now returned to the squad.}

Ed, a couple of questions. Have we managed to tie up Traore to a contract after his impressive preseason feats? If we manage to get a striker (or two) and given Schurrles ability to play the role do you think we would be able to let Torres go? Are there any suitors? Am I the only Chelsea fan who would loath to see Mikel leave? Think back to how he played for DiMatteo.
Cheers Ed {Ed002's Note - The plan is to complete the deal for Traore in September.}

Ed02, after the Man U match Mourinho said that if we do not get Rooney, 'We are going to close another player if he is not coming'. Do you have any idea who this is? Yilmaz, Eto'o? {Ed002's Note - I explained earlier the players that there is interest in but the club. But the club will be bringing in at least one forward.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed, If we were to sign more than one striker, do you think that perhaps Torres would be tried to move on, as well as Ba? Thanks {Ed002's Note - Yes, it is possible.}

Yes, welcome back 'The Special Ed' -- ie 002 -- even if other eds have done a great job in yr absence, your special knowledge has clearly been missed. Hope all trolls blocked now.

Unlike Basics, I remain a JM fan. But as posted earlier, I also thought initial line-up strange. But perhaps JM was hoping that KDB, EH and AS pace and skill would make us potent for counter-attack goal as someone else suggested. Trouble is so many of our passes went astray at key moments (esp in first half). Do like the look of Schurrle: adds some real strength on the ball, can throw off defenders/tackles, though not a natural number 9 and looked better when Torres on and moving to flanks (Torres at least can do some link play, though that game crying out for Lukaku, at least at some stage). We could still do with strong/physical midfielder (Essien as was, can he still do it? Ballack, Fellaini type etc). Think and hope strange line up was about JM plan on night (counter attacking pace) plus him realising season will be v long and Mata needs some recovery after exhausting last season followed by confed cup (yes I know Oscar played in that, but not as much game time last season as Mata -- and Luiz played most of last games and confed cup, so hopefully JM looking after both of them in first couple of weeks). So it's early days, and JM will have got it right if we avoid our nov/dec/jan slump this year (after lightening starts) -- losing to QPR in January at home this year, losing leads to Southampton, result at Reading etc Still hurts!

Just wondered what the latest updates are on Doria of Botafogo and Erik Dier of Sporting? Do any of eds have info? {Ed002's Note - There are no updates right now, but there is interest in both for the future.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry to keep bothering you ed002, but which other clubs are interested in Doria? {Ed002's Note - Doria has been subject to unconfirmed interest of Spurs and PSV, certain interest of Chelsea, Cruzeiro and Fluminense together with his agent trying to get a move to either Porto or Benfica.}

Fan 1; 'We don't need Will.I.An, we have plenty of attackers blah blah'

Fan 2; 'We weren't attacking enough against MU blah blah'

Zola0203; 'We are top o'the league, say we are top o'the league!'

Come on, get behind our team! COYB!

It's a joke how some people can find reason to complain already. Top of the league, 7 from 9 including a trip to Old Trafford. Seriously ppl, what is there to moan about.

I've never been a Jose Mourinho fan here and there's just no way he'll improve the quality of our players with the negative tactics. Sorry but Lampard and Ramires will always get bossed. And what was the essence of buying MvG, and promising Lukaku playing time? Why no Mata: is he going?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Back to supporting your other team Liverpool then Basics? ;-)

You can't be a Chelsea fan, without being a Jose fan. The man is a legend of our club. He is a winner. We got a point at OT, to add to our 6 points from the first two games, and you're complaining?

MVG was bought as a prospect. He will get game time, but it would be a bit stiff to stick him in against United at OT for a first full start, don't you think?

I agree Lukaku should've started, but Mourinho was obviously trying to expose Uniteds centre halves lack of speed, it didn't come off but we didn't lose ffs

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Aug 2013 10:28:56
Yes, Liverpool are my other team but I'm a Chelsea fan, what's wrong with that? Why being so negative against a not great MU team? The tactics don't suit the players we have who always want the ball. Why is Lampard (no disrespect) starting with Ramires and playing all 90mins in three consecutive games? MvG should start plus a proper holding midfielder. Ramires can't pass to save his life for God's sake. I'm really sad with the football we play.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bas!cs, you poor thing. Chelsea and Liverpool you can't do that it's not right.
