Wonder if Sarri would tey a 4231 with kante next to jorginho and then hazard Willian then Pedro ( all swapping ) behind morata or Giroud.

25 Nov 2018 20:37:17
Correct, 4231 for me would serve us best and it looks the most balanced formation that Chelsea should be playing based on the personnel (and their deficiencies) - that the team has got at the moment. 433 formation (with Jorginho playing in front of the defense) would work if our defense and attack is strong. It's all just wishful thinking considering that Sarri has the final say and knows what he wants.

Don’t even have to change the formation. Just stick Kante where Jorginho is and have Barkley and Kovacic in front. Replace Luiz with Christensen and have Giroud up top.

True RVD1997, that too is a good one that should work (cos such midfield Kovacic-Kante[DM]-Barkley will give help to both the defense and attack- the balance is there) . I said 4231 cos I feel the coach will definitely want to play Jorginho.

Why change something what is working? don't you think you guys are over reacting a little bit?

RVD Kante can't play in Jorgihno position as in Sarri's way of play we need a player who can dictate tempo through that position.

I’m thinking more of a plan B, I said before game that season has been good so far, but v Everton and spurs, sticking one player on jorginho stops us in our tracks. I mean even a 4141 because let’s be honest kante can cover that def mid role and Jorg can dictate bit further up, and the biggest problem which Needs addressing from a long time ago is hazard needs help! Hazard and Giroud up top Pedro willian wide centre mids kante jorg maybe.

Jorginho is proving to be a bit of a luxury player. Doesn’t like to be pressed, reminding me of Fabregas at times. Don’t get me wrong he’s looked brilliant at times too but I’d rather be safe in the big games.

Kante would be fine protecting the defence, let Kovacic and Barkley dictate the play with their passing and let hazard do the same whenever he drops deep to receive the ball.

Kante is wasted in his current position and I’d rather have him playing at his best than Jorginho.
I don’t mind the idea of Jorginho and Kante in a double pivot but I think we could suffer attacking wise.

David Luiz and Alonso connection/ understanding isn't looking good- Alonso going forward and leaving D. Luiz open and vulnerable.
I pray Sarri has a plan B cos teams are going to be targeting Jorginho.

I've seen a lot of Jorginho criticism on here and on different platforms from Chelsea fans and others. The reason he plays deep is purely because he distributes the ball and keeps the flow ticking really well, Kante cannot do that unfortunately. Against Spurs it was a team calamity, no press and defensively we made far too many mistakes.

1 moment some fans praise Jorginho like his the best thing since bread and the 2nd moment his been slated. With Kante in his favoured position last year we finished outside the top 4.

We have lost 1 game against a good Spurs side. Give the team a break.

Top 4 is far from secured despite our start. Last season Conte lost the players and we massively struggled to score goals. Man for man our midfield has improved leaps and bounds since last season but Kante is still our best midfielder so why not use him where he’s at his best?
He won the league with us playing in his suited role after all.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I just wish people would stop saying his best role is as a holding midfielder. That was where Conte played him initially and he just looked stifled and struggled. He is at his best in central midfield, not as a holding mid. He should be slightly deeper than he is playing currently, with freedom to roam all over the pitch, instead of being restricted to the right side. The best central midfielder in the world should be the key piece everything else is built around, rather than being shoehorned into an unfamiliar role. Same with Hazard. You put him where he is at his best, you put Kante where he is best, then you fit the formation and players around them, rather than choose a formation and try to force players into it.}

27 Nov 2018 09:17:16
I agree that we need Hazard and Kante at their absolute best Ed in terms of position. Kante is fit enough to be everywhere on the pitch but he offers nothing going forwards.
Passing range is pretty poor, shooting is terrible hence he very rarely has a shot and he looks lost in the final third.
In terms of tracking back, making tackles and winning the ball back, there is no one better on the planet.
He needs to sit deeper and if that’s at Jorginhos expense then so be it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - personally I would have Jorginho nowhere near the team except against weaker opposition. He cost Napoli the title last season and that was in a less physical league where his weaknesses were not so exposed. In the English Prem he is going to struggle to impose himself and those nasty challenges he keeps making are going to start getting the reds they deserve. You don't even need him, his passing is not incisive enough to make it worth persisting with him. While I never rated Fabregas, there were times when his passes made his inclusion warranted. I just do not see that same level with Jorginho. He is just not cut out for the role he is playing. Played slightly further forward, his passing is then capable of having an effect on the play and the defensive onus on him is removed.}

27 Nov 2018 09:33:35
I agree completely ed, a midfield of Kante, Barkley and Kovacic like I mentioned earlier has a bit of everything. Jorginho can’t keep starting the big games based on his price tag and the fact Sarri knows him well.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Sarri loves him and that is why he starts. He is key to the way Sarriball works. It is time he looked to tweak Sarriball though imo. He is certainly clever enough to do so, so I am sure he will figure it out.}

27 Nov 2018 09:55:57
Let’s hope so, I’m pretty happy with our squad overall although we’re clearly crying out for a goal scorer both on the right wing and up top, as well as a central defender.
For me the title is a step too far but top 4 certainly looks achievable, maybe a trophy too if we can sort out a formation to suit our key players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - top 4 does look very achievable.}

Just trying to think of something positive after yesterday's result:
Looking at our upcoming fixtures, there's a good chance to get some consecutive victories to take into the New Year.

Wow we've had 1 poor game in a fantastic start to The season, in a new transitional period, and you are all in meltdown. Time to get a grip. We will still be pushing top 4 come end of season. Sarri will see us thru.

Djblue, totally agree the only worry is this game highlighted issues that had been surfacing.
Luiz was at his contes second season worst. Lethargic and no urgency. We were exposed on both flanks. The only one who I thought did ok was Rudiger.
Also they have now learnthow to nullify Jorginho. In that case throw Kante into his holding role and move Jorginho further forward. The other two things apparent yesterday and other big games Willian goes missing, secondly morata may be back on goal trail, the amount of times he has been offside in last two games, I would say were a joke, but I don’t know about you I wasn’t laughing. When most of the time he’s looking along the line.

While everyone is having a meltdown, please remember that Manchester city experienced similar poor results in Giordiolas first season. Sarri will sort it out.

Honest Question though, if Raheem sterling and other players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez played for Chelsea, do you think they’d be in the starting lineup today or would they be on loan in Portugal or even the Netherlands? Because I think the latter.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

we are in transition also remember that. sarri is trying to find the right 11 and david luiz is always going to be found out in a 2 man defence against top players so it doesn't come as a huge surprise that spurs stuffed us. wondering why barkley didn't start last few games after been in flying form? anyway so far this season has been fantastic and we are not on city or liverpools level yet so top 4 finish and hopefully a trophy il be happy.

Out of all of our youth prospects and how our fans love to jump on how there not given chances etc etc, . They go on loan. then what, people raved about kakuta, . Went around on loan and wasn’t good enough for teams in Spain or France but was meant to be for Chelsea. josh Mac, bamford, Abraham, boga, piazon ( the next kaka ) kalas, Nathan etc, we have great players at youth level but if they are good enough they will play, it’s simple, Bertrand traore Christensen and Loftus-Cheek are only ones who have shown they are good enough. I hope mount tomori Reece James CHO are good enough but time will tell of good enough for top team!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, sending players out on loan very rarely helps players improve. It often exposes them to a much lower level of coaching which hinders them. It also, in modern players thinking anyway, makes them feel unwanted. 20 years ago players went out on loan thinking they have a chance to prove something and win themselves a place in the team. Now players go out on loan and they know it is just to keep them playing so the club can maximise the profit they make on them when they sell them. It removes a lot of the drive and desire which is key if a young player is to become a top player.}

26 Nov 2018 07:57:17
Spot on ed, our prospects lose any sort of form or confidence they had going, apart from a slim few.

Do you know why CHO hasn’t signed a new contract? Cheers mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know for sure, other players who know him think he is looking at what Sancho is doing in the Bundesliga, but they are speculating so that might be miles wide of the mark.}

Need to get him tied down imo
Really good analysis on the loaning of players ed001.
