Hey Ed, do you think Chelsea will sign Roman Pavulycenko? He will be a great squad player or back to Drogs.

{Editor's Note: I don't beleive they will.}

Hey Ed, any chance of Chelsea taking advantage of the broken down contract talks between Barca and Dani Alves and capturing the right backs signature?

Chelsea need depth and should sign players for all parts of the squad i.e def, mid and attk. They should release Ferreira and sign a new right back in the form of Van der Wiel and resolve the contract situation of Bosingwa and Ivannovic. They could also opt to sign a center back mainly Hangeland, Cahill or Mexes and switch Ivannovic to right back.

For midfield we need a deep lying playmaker because Mikel does not contribute to attack but is solid defensively. Bastian Schweinsteiger is the ideal candidate but others like Nuri Sahin, Ever Banega and Toni Kroos should be considered.

For attack our strikers are getting old and I'm not sure whether Anchelotti trusts starting Kalou or Sturridge. Borini may leave and we will definately need another top quality striker to help us cope with the vigors of the English football season. Chelsea shouldn't invest in any wonderkids as it may take them awhile to adjust or bed in to the team and league. So a signing like Anelka would be ideal. Options are Roque Santa Cruz, Roman Pavulychenko, Seydou Doumbia, Andre Pierre Gignac, Lucas Barrios, Nelson Valdez, Gervinho, Karim Benzema, Fenando Llorente, Nilmar, Antonio Cassano, Hulk, Mounir El Hamdoui etc.

These players could help Chelsea in the long run to keep the entire squad fit for the season. Your thoughts ed? {ed's note - not so sure about some of the signings you suggest, Cassano? Santa Cruz?}

Hey Ed, any update on Gael Kakuta and Borini's contract negotiations. Chelsea should really hang on to Kakuta though.

{Editor's Note: I expect Kakuta to resign - the remaining issue is being discussed but I anticipate everything will be OK. As it stands right now, there are no on-going talks with Borini and I expect him to leave when his contract expires in the summer.}

Since Chelsea lost interest in signing Arturo Vidal, they should turn to fellow Bundesliga oufit Dortmund to find what they are looking i.e a deep lying playmaker. Chelsea should be watching Nuri Sahin he's exactly what they need to reinforce their midfield with and would only have to pay his small release clause of only 6mil pounds. Hopefully Bayern regains their form and wins the Bundesliga crushing his and Dortmund's hope of winning the championship cause that might influence a move away. What's your thoughts ed? {ed's note - if it is true that the release clause is 6m (and it is reported to be Euros not pounds so a bit under 6m pounds) then Chelsea would have to be mad not to match it and try and get him. He would offer so much more to the team than Mikel does in that position. But I think Bayern are more likely to be his next club.}

Hey Ed, weren't Chelsea interested in singing Marek Hamsik once? What are their chances of getting him now?

{Editor's Note: Unlikely.}

Hey Ed, any chance of Chelsea signing Genoa midfielder Miguel Veloso?

{Editor's Note: No.}

Chelsea have reportedly made contact with German club Bayer Leverkrusen over the possible transfer of 23 year old Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal. Vidal can play anywhere in defense and as an attacking midfielder aswell. The deal is said to be worth 10mil. Any truth in this Ed?
{Editor's note - I will look into it now.}

So is it true Ed? {ed's note - it is unlikely he will move as he is about to sign an extended contract, but that could be purely to increase the fee Leverkusen receive, of course. Unlikely that Chelsea would be able to afford him in that case, especially as City have been sniffing round him lately.}

So they are interested in signing him though?
{Editor's note - They were, but have lost interest since}

Hey Ed, so what other news do you have for us and which player will they turn to next?

{Editor's Note: As previously stated, there are no specific targets beyond what I has been stated already. Chelsea are certainly not going to make very significant moves in January unless the right player is available at the right price. Priority continues to be to resolve open contractual issues with Ivanovic, Bosingwa and Kakuta.}
