Well it's official, Chelsea has sold Thorgan Hazard to Borussia Mönchengladbach. I wish him all the best of luck. Ed do you know we there are a buy-back clause in the contract?

{Ed018's Note - according to Chelsea's website there is a buy back clause}

This is a perfect scenario for us in my opinion. Loans are nice in theory but by the other team owning the player and therefore having a financial interest to the club there is a far greater chance that he will receive more opportunities. Worst case scenario he plays so well that we have the option to buy him back most likely at a rate far below market value. Overall this is a good move as long as thorgan is happy with it which he seems to be.

The FA taking no action against leg breaker Barns, what a shock. NOT. The FA should issue the refs with big red noses, oversize shoes and have them drive around the pitch in little cars that fall apart, they are making a mockery of the game, this weekend has shown the rest of the world how crap our reffing standards are and what muppets that run the FA. I will be very surprised to see Matic have any reduction in his ban as common sense is not in the FAs' dictionary. At this rate you can kiss the title goodbye due to 'UNFORTUNATE' errors by the top clowns/refs on a weekly basis.
Say what you will but how much bad luck, bad decisions and pundits and press causing player bans is one club supposed to take. I do not think there is a conspiracy against us but ffs give us a break

I genuinely thought they'd punish him, really I did. However we shouldn't be too pissed over it as it doesn't really affect us in any way since we don't play them anymore.
Now we can only hope Matic' ban gets reduced to 1 game so we have him back for the next Premier League game. Though I'm not counting on it actually happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he should even get 1 game - did you see Vertoghan do the same thing v West Ham - not even a booking

Agree0 Disagree0

Indeed I saw that, still I expect the red card to stand and the ban (I suppose right now a ban is 3 games?) will be upheld.

Barnes didn't tackle Matic though? So they obviously aren't going to take any action against him. :/

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - let me guess it was accidental? Doesn't matter if he meant to do it or not, he still did it and it should've been a red card}

How? Barnes was passing the ball and Matic intercepted, and was caught by Barnes' follow through.
Sure it looked horrible, and sure Matic's leg could have been broken, but what are they going to ban Barnes for? Passing the ball? Being intercepted?
They can't ban him for no reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - you have your opinion and I have mine but let me guess you probably believe Costa deserved his ban for stepping on Can accidentally while he wasn't even looking at him? All Costa was trying to do was run to retrieve the ball}

Costa's ban was harsh and based on his reputation. I just don't understand how everyone is making out Barnes committed a horror tackle and deserves a ban.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - I wouldn't say Barnes has a squeaky clean reputation.}

Its not as bad as Costa's. :/

The rules state a tackle can be a foul even if the player makes contact with the ball if the tackle is judged to be dangerous. That said if there's anything that you can't apply rules to it's the present system. I think the astonishing thing that hasn't been said is if Atkinson saw the incident and didn't even call a foul then he has absolutely no business refereeing Sunday league games much less the biggest league in the world.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barnes should have been sent off for his dangerous, nasty assault on Ivanovic in the 1st half anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've never seen anyone pass the ball then put their whole body weight through a (repositioned) boot and then follow through with the other leg?! That's what Barnes did and that's why he scurried off as soon as did.

Agree0 Disagree0

Steve is right IMO. That's not what happens after a pass. That's not just finishing off your passing motion. Indeed, it's following through and it's extremely dangerous. Should've been red.

What a total joke the FA are they can punish costa for that and not him for that disgusting tackle and then fine Jose for taking out of line for saying what's true that the premiership referees are a joke. Shows again FA sticking up for the referees shocking performance shows once again they all piss in the same pot. Only thing I can see is Matic will get his Red card turned

The FA are a JOKE! NO ACTION to be taken! BARNES gets away with it!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Absolutely disgusting. Could you imagine if that was Costa, the FA couldn't ban him long enough. I swear if Matic's ban isn't rescinded after this the FA are effectively saying that a push is more dangerous than a leg-breaking challenge

Watching highlights of games this weekend, and several of them were heavily influenced by poor decisions by referees. Both Arsenal goals are debatable, Southampton had several penalty appeals and Mignolet should have been sent off. Spurs had an extra 2 minutes added to their time added on, and the whistle should probably have gone before Kane could put the rebound in. Sunderland had a correct goal ruled offside. So so many mistakes this weekend, let alone the entire season.
Things need to change and improve drastically and soon. It's no longer acceptable to simply say these decisions even themselves out and shrug it off. The referee association keeps coming out and saying that refs get 90/99% of decisions right, but those decisions are the easy ones and have minimal impact on the game. The other 1/10% are the ones that have the biggest impact on results and they're the ones they keep getting wrong.
