Must be - Conte confirmed.

I thought he only said he wanted to put him on in the second half.

Wheely- subsequently said Chalobah will stay as a squad member.

24 Aug 2016 07:56:00
That means Conte will have 6 central midfielders on his disposal. From those 6 players 2 can play as attacking midfielders.

Well an odd game. We played an amazing first half but absolutely diabolical defending at times in the second half. Still, cup isn't about performance, is about winning. Thought RLC and Bats played really well, Aina had an okay debut but gave ball away a lot. Moses was infuriating, lurched from sublime to ridiculous, same as Pedro.

23 Aug 2016 22:16:08
Aina was aweful gave the ball away at the most simple of passes. His defending wasn't great. Only thing he does seem to do well is sprint. As for Cahill and ivanovic they should never play at the back together again. We need two new centre backs. Not one. Plus side batsuayri will get some confidence, loftus cheek could actually be really special.

Actually Matic was bad aswell!

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Aug 2016 22:43:28
Matic was poor, didn't think Aina was that bad but I so want him to succeed. Would rather see JCS and Tomori get a chance than Ivanovic-Cahill at CB.

You can't just put two youngsters who haven't made an appearance together in a cup team against physical opposition.

Great to see Aina start he deserves it hopefully he can bench Ivanovic sooner rather than later.

Disappointed to see Chalobah on the bench though he deserves a start more than Ruben in my opinion and he could've also started over Matic.

Hopefully get an early couple of goals then bring on Chalobah and Solanke for Matic and one of Pedro/ Moses.

Solanke on the subs bench tonight. Hope this is a sign that Dominic may sign a new contract and stay at CFC!

Good to see Ania start at right back.

Shame that Chalobah is on the bench. Sorry to say but personally that's a sign he will leave.

Dom Solanke is on the bench.

NAPOLI EYE MANGALA

Italian publication Sportmediaset claim Man City’s out-of-favour defender Eliaquim Mangala has emerged as a transfer target for Napoli.

The Serie A club are reportedly keen on a loan move for the France international.

As a fan I support my team win or lose but one annoying thing is the transfer policy we are now having to get used to. At the end of the season when we finish behind both Manchester clubs we will all wonder why?
The reason for this is simple, they seem to identify targets then go out and get those targets. Where as we identify targets and spend a two month transfer window being told no by certain clubs, then leaving us with hector or dilly or we just sold to Sunderland. It's like buying your presents Christmas Eve when the shelves are empty. don't get me wrong kante and batshayi are good signings but when your best defender for the last say 20 years is coming to an end, you have to replace him with quality and if that costs then so be it. We are not a club struggling money wise and have very good fringe players that can be used as makeweight so get it done already or better still give our promising young players a chance.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

23 Aug 2016 16:49:31
Yeah and to top it off . we spend all transfer window trying to sign a centre back when we a good youngster on loan in Christensen. :/ #freenomoneyneedtobespent.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Aug 2016 18:53:06
I disagree.
I don't have an issue with our transfer policy. Yes we need a defender. We have been trying to get a defender. I would rather we get the right person in even if that means leaving it late.
Transfer values have sky rocketed. If what we have heard is true we have been trying hard to complete the signings. We will not be held over a barrel but we also are not penny pinching. We seem to be offering a fair price. If that is not acceptable to the selling team we will try to negotiate. We can't just throw money at teams and players or every transfer we go for will be massivly inflated.
Sorry for the long post but we have spent 60ish million on two good players who will add to the team and we are trying to get players for the other positions we need. Nothing wrong with a policy like that.

My heads spinning at the moment with all these defender bids being rejected, if there true we have just bid for 3 different centre backs in the space of 3 days,9 days before the window shuts, why didn't we do this 9 days into the window?, so we had room to negotiate? , and leave the selling club to get replacements, oh well bring on the panic buys then.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

23 Aug 2016 16:46:19
Cat I agree with you and although I will always try and be positive and support my Chelsea it just seems we waste massive amounts of time on transfer that "probably or maybe" won't happen and leave ourselves no time. I am not saying be held at random neither but have a final price and at some point give your best offer and move on. We have not learnt our lesson from past couple years. Now unfortunately we will have to massively overpay as it is final hours and world knows we are desperate or we settle for average players to fill our pressing need at end as we simply can't have just 5 defenders or we will be the laughing stock! AKA Djillobodji, Raman, Falcao, Pato, Pedro. I can see same thing happening again.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Aug 2016 19:10:52
Yeah my biggest gripe is the season finishes in May, the window opens 2 months later, some teams make there bids before the window opens, agree a deal with the club, agree a deal with the player then the day the window opens they register with Fifa and the fa and who ever else, I just don't understand how we've let it get to nearly the last week and still we can't get a deal done, does anybody know on here how transfers work? , how long it takes from identifying a player, to making a bid, to agreeing a contract, and actually signing for us eds or posters? , I know all deals will be different but just a basic transfer procedure?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2016 10:22:26
We're in such an awkward situation now. Not only have we gone all out for Koulibaly all summer and ended up not getting him, exactly like Stones last summer. We've now put in a desperate bid for Romagnoli which has been rejected.
Now every club in the world knows we're desperate for a centre back, they'll all sting us on price. Not only that, every defender we go for now knows he wasn't first or second choice!
Our whole transfer team needs to sit down and explain their incompetent abilities to seal transfers! It's crazy! Look at Man City and Man Utd, they wrap them up so quicky!
Now we're going to end up doing another Djilibodji. If the club were looking for a stop gap for Christensen they should have signed Ashley Williams from Swansea. Quality CB with plenty of experience, for £12m he'd have been good for a couple of years.
You have to feel that this whole situation wouldn't have happened if Antonio Rudiger hadn't gotten injured. He was clearly our first choice and was going to be with us this year. With the options left out there I'd be tempted to go all out for a class full back and have Ivanovic as back up for centre back and just wait for Rudiger and Christensen next year, at least we won't be told he's £4000000 million or some daft price.
Very disappointing transfer window, not taking anything away from Kante and Batshuayi who look quality.

I said at the time that we should have bought Ashley Williams - a defence of Terry and Williams would have been impassible.

Would have been a steady partnership that Mrs Costa. With Zouma coming back too, would have been a good mix of partnership possibilities.
What I can't understand is why we've loaned players out before securing replacements. It's crying out for Nathan Ake at the moment. Can play in multiple positions and was fantastic for Watford last year! Should never have been loaned out!

22 Aug 2016 23:47:39
Can any eds or anyone supply useful info on the CB situation, I would be happy with any of koulibaly, romagnoli, and maksimovic as long as a deal gets done swiftly, no need for fans to worry about money.
