My views on juan mata to man utd. Honestly i'm gutted. Player of the year two years in a row, a player who loves the club/fans/living in London. But on the other hand, i'm looking at it like this;
if it was a choice between having mata or mourinho at the club then i'd choose mourinho. Over the last four-five games I can see why jose prefers willian/Oscar/hazard as there attacking and defensive workrate is second to none. Also the money being mentioned is good business for the club. Overall i'm sad to see him go but having a player on the bench worth £35-£40m doesn't make sense with all the fair play rules that are in place. There has been talk of costa possibly coming in January or the summer but I would like to see us look at bringing suarez in. At the moment he looks the best player out there in his position who could possibly be persuaded to leave there club even for the £60m asking price. A Chelsea team with suarez leading the line would be frightening. Suarez and a promising young defender like zouma or varane and where good to go.

Don't want Suarez. Great player but he'll bring the club a terrible reputation IMO. Mandzukic or Costa we should try for as an incoming striker they're both players who work hard and Mourinho would like. Both are slim in January especially Mandzukic because Lewandowski won't arrive in summer. I think Eto'o and Ba will definately leave in the summer, if Lukaku does return and we sign another striker we might aswell sell Torres and trim the wage bill down because he seems to be getting abit injury prone. As an attacking mid to replace mata I think Piazon needs to be given a chance. Schurrle also needs more game time. I'd love to see Barkley replace Lampard when he retires he would give us a lot of power and drive in a 4-3-3 formation. My obvious choice for left back would be luke Shaw to replace Cole. I think Cole might go to America in the summer and shaw's perfect because we quite simply need to snap up this English talent. Van Aanholt would also be good backup. I don't think we need a centre half but if we decide to cash in on Luiz for 20-25 million to barca or Bayern then that's a great sale when we look favourites to sign Zouma near the 10 million mark. Hope to see these players leave aswell as others who are coming back from loan to trim the wage bill and get incoming funds: Hilario, Luiz, Bertrand, Essien, Mikel (Romeu to replace him), Moses, Marin, Kakuta, Ba, Eto, o, Torres.

Cheers

Oh Chelsea what have you done!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't believe it to! If I needed to select mourihno or mata I would go for mata! he is beast little beast. is our biggest mistake in years!

22 Jan 2014 21:42:59
Selling him abroad would be much easier to take. However the speed of the negotiations and Chelsea willing to do the deal now can only mean we are giving ourself time to bring a replacement. Rumours into overdrive Salah, Isco, Diego Costa.
All the best Juan cracking little player

Have we gone in for salah ed? Or are we?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - See previous answers.}

22 Jan 2014 19:25:30
Assuming all's done and dusted then with Mata, can you tell us if there is anything in the works relating to a replacement this window?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I cannot keep answering the same question over and over.}

22 Jan 2014 19:16:07
Hi ed are Chelsea or any other Premier league team interested in Juan Jesus from Inter?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea tried and had a bid rejected.}

22 Jan 2014 18:54:53
Ed, if mata goes will chelsea look to bring in a replacement?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The right player at the right price.}

22 Jan 2014 18:01:52
Hi ed is there any reason not discussed (apart from Mata does not fit in Jose playing style) that we would sell him and strengthen United? Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It might be the hair.}

22 Jan 2014 21:18:50
Couple of reports saying chelsea are in for Salah, they even go as far as claiming a bid's already been made.
Though Salah is obviously not a bad player by any means, I'd rather we just recall Moses or Piazon. No need to spend a good chunk of the money on an attacking midfielder while we've got a couple of good ones out on loan.
Last thought, perhaps Jose would like to bring the 433 back. That means he'd probably be comfortable with 4 wide men and he could use the money on a CM (or hopefully Shaw and Zouma).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It makes sense as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sorry ness, but what makes sense? The bid/pursuit of Salah or the fact maybe Mourinho would like to return to a 433?

Agree0 Disagree0

Salah is cup tied.
So CM, Shaw 433.

Is mata a UTD player yet ed

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed018's Note - someone mentioned he's having his medical tomorrow}

Oh dear, gutted his going but worse where
His going, good luck to him love the bloke, rumours starting already 12m salah and
Costa's release claus going
To be met? Any ideas to try cheer
Us up

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed018's Note - just heard the Salah rumour but haven't heard any confirmation although someone pretty reliable has mentioned it. Haven't heard anything new about Costa but that is who they need to go and get}

22 Jan 2014 20:34:30
Just a quick question for ed018, What's your whole take on the Mata situation? Would you like to see him sold and who would you like to replace him/money be spent? Would you like Rooney to be part of the deal? Finally, why don't (if we do sell him) sell him abroad because it to me seems stupid to sell to a rival, thanks ed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed018's Note - he's obviously not first choice anymore and if he wishes to move on I'm fine with that. I would've preferred it was abroad. I think they need to take that money and go get Diego Costa}

22 Jan 2014 20:01:39
Well that looks like that's it for mata. Would JOSE really allow it to happen if he didn't have a back up plan? Just seems surreal selling the best and most consistent (not counting this season) last 2 seasons in a row player.

Now mata is most likely to be sold too man united does this change things in terms of getting a player during this window?

Many thanks ed.

22 Jan 2014 19:53:09
We should let Mata go with immediate effect. He was a great player to our team for the last couple of years. But with the progress of Oscar, arrival of Hazard and Willian - he has no chance of starting 11, unless it's just a Cup rotation, or heavy loaded schedule.

Mata will never be a better wide man than Willian, Hazard or Schurrle, while he is already behind Oscar as a trequartista. Remember - Barcelona sold Ronaldinho to make way for Messi.

It was inevitable. Willian is more adaptable, faster, way better at defence and overall fit into Mourinho's gameplay.

Last couple of years Mata was instrumental with the ball at his feet in tight places. But wouldn't you have it at Hazard's feet instead? If we get anything close to Ozil's money - we hould let him go and reinvest into a more pressing area - a striker.

We should recall Piazon and let Mata go. He has no future at Chelsea, a future he surely deserves. He's a really nice fella and I completely understand his desire to play regularly. We'll be alright, don't worry.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It makes a lot of sense mate. But it is still sad seeing him go. We are human beings above football tacticians.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jan 2014 19:02:23
If we sell Mata we need to go after Ross Barkley.

£25m plus victor Moses?

We need to replace him if he does go. Everyones prices will go up knowing we have a extra £40m even though we are financially very secure.
Either that or a recall for Lucas Pizaon?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As I said yesterday, I like the idea of getting Barkley, but I just don't believe Everton will sell him (especially in January). Recalling Piazon could work, but perhaps it'd be in his best interest to play week in week out for the rest of the season at least.
Recalling Moses is another option. Perhaps using the 40 million on another cm like Pogba or Vidal could be smart. Either one of those two would make our midfield absolutely BOSS!
And the last name I'd throw in: Patrick Herrman. Thought he's having a really good season and he certainly has got the ability necessary.
Just so sad to see The Bearded One go.

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely agree about Barkley. He is the only Attacking Mid I think we should buy in the summer, I would rather bring back loan players next year (such as Piazon) over buying anyone else. I think that he is exactly a Mourinho sort of player - young, British, hungry, fast, opens up space for others plus can play in a number of positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw are must but Barkley should be used as CM.

Good luck mata lad but 40million. DEAL just hope we spend it well good striker and squad complete. Even better with all the talent we got coming back from loans in summer.

Hey Guys/Girls looks as though Juan is off to United, Good luck to him he deserves to play he's been a good servant, hopefully he will help united take some points off our title rivals, I am holding onto some hope we may have first refusal on Rooney or he is part of the deal in someway if this isn't the case I would like to see the money reinvested into the squad now to push for the title personally I would like to see Luke Shaw and Costa I really think we could mount a strong challenge with these two, don't really see the need to replace Mata has Piazon is doing well has is Thorgan and Traore looks a gem.I personally still think next year is the year for the title but with a couple of smart buys we could really challenge city anyway curious on your thoughts guys and eds how would you like to see the money spent?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Jan 2014 17:56:18
So sad to see mata leave if indeed he does go! But 40million into the club can't be sniffed at, would love to see him head back to Spain or to PSG. Good luck JUAN you deserve it, fantastic servant to the club

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Jan 2014 17:30:17
hey ed, is mata for rooney a possible outcome

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

22 Jan 2014 17:29:36
Chelsea: can we have Rooney
UTD : no

UTD: can we have mata
CFC : yes

How embarrassing. And to add insult if ozil was €45 and came from Spain then to sell to a rival in England then I want a lot more, . They want him try should pay for him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

IMO Chelsea is not selling Mata unconditionally. I really expect Rooney will join us by the end of the month.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jan 2014 17:28:23
Ed, really sorry to further bombard you with this question but I'd really like to know. Assuming Mata leaves in January, do the club hold an interest in bringing someone in to replace him? Because after the KDB sale, we'd be 1 injury to an attacking midfielder away from pure exhaustion in the band of 3.
Thank you for any insights

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - If the right player is available for the right price.}

Seems reasonable enough. If need be perhaps one of the loanees could be recalled. Thanks for that Ed. Good luck surviving the madness

22 Jan 2014 16:39:14
This is sad to say the least. A player that has given so much sell him to MU? No way man. Abroad maybe but do it in a dignified manner without the press praying on it. Chelsea please show some common sense.

22 Jan 2014 14:48:25
What the jells going on, selling Mata to Manchester United when they won't sell to us and then looking like selling Courtois . All sounds a bit nuts to me. We have to play this keeper next season even if it means selling Cech.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Jan 2014 16:31:02
I'm afraid of talking caus e if I do the mourinho worshippers would be on my case, blindly following any thing he says or does its a shame. I tell you what I can take Juan going on the chin its okay even if it makes no sense whatsoever afta that blasted united didn't sell to us but really if we see courtois Oh boy Mourinho would officially be the most short sighted manager ever.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jan 2014 12:37:35
Anybody heard of Basel's center-back Fabian Schar? looks decent! He can also score goals. I've heard we want a new CB. why not go for him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Jan 2014 10:15:32
i know 37m is a lot of money for a player the manager dosent want but why strengthen utd surely other teams would buy him he is top quality unless they r going to do buisness with rooney involved tell them to slide
on like they do to other teams looking their top players, wouldn't sell them a virus lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Completely agree. Would hate to see Mata reviving UTD, possibly at our expense next season. Can't/won't believe we can sanction this transaction!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jan 2014 08:08:27
I have a feeling that after selling Mata next leaving player in summer will be Hazard for 80m£. Transfers will generate 120m£+30-35m£ for Luiz . It's obvious Chelsea has to sell to buy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed018's Note - not sure where you come up with this stuff}

1st time poster here, have read these pages a lot though and I must say that ness you are wayyy over the top lad, everything is over exaggerated with you, I agree that mata being sold is a shame but he doesn't play the style of football mourinho wants, at the end of the day it's the team that matters not one player, not only that mourinho is the best manager in the world and if he says mata goes then I'm afraid we all have to trust him on this saying as we are not managers ourselves. FIFA doesn't count

Agree0 Disagree0

Just for the sake of humouring myself, Ness, who the hell are we buying, after selling Mata, luiz and of all people Hazard, that will improve the team?

Im honestly perplexed with your thought process. We have Courtois so won't be buying a keeper. Have Lukaku coming back, so will probably only need one striker. Matic was just bought so little need to strengthen the middle of the park. Obviously with you selling all our attacking mids, a position once considered stacked with become weak, for the sole purpose of sh*ts and giggles I guess. So £120m to spend on a striker, cb and two attacking mids that will not be as good as the ones we have just sold.

So we obviously need to sell, in order to spend money on making us worse? Or do you think Emanulo and co enjoy the rebuilding process so much, they intend to deconstruct what they've constructed in order to construct something again, which in turn will be deconstructed so that something new can once again be reconstructed all for the hell of it?

Im confused

Agree0 Disagree0

I only said I have a feeling that all those transfers might happen. Not necessary it's going to be like that. Selling Mata to Man.utd makes sense only if Chelsea gets first option to buy Rooney.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 has said so many times that Chelsea do not stand in the way of a player if they ask to leave and a reasonable offer is made, no one including the ed's are going to know if Mata has said anything or not he hasn't played much in a world cup year so it is at least plausible, however it doesn't make much sense to sell to Man U has I am sure there are other teams across Europe who would also relish his signature only way I see Man U getting him is with Rooney being someway involved.Which I think we would all be more then happy with.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jan 2014 16:34:06
Ness, you my friend have a serious problem, you really do!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, when I suggested that Mata might be sold last summer same people jumped on me as well as they do now, look what's happening now. Do you really think it's easy to ignore 97m€ bid.?

Agree0 Disagree0

No ness, you actually didn't just say you had a feeling. You wrongly said its obvious we need to sell to buy. That is hugely different from saying its hard to turn down £97m (it was £80m only last night.)

When you suggested Mata might be sold in the summer (moreso if you did, which I wholeheartedly doubt) you were right to have people jump down your throat. Suggesting we sold our best player from the previous two years showed you to be a clueless prat. I can also wholeheartedly say you wouldn't of backed it up with the fact he isn't a Jose no.10, purely because your lack of understanding of the game, shown numerous times on here.

In future mate, read what you type before you post it, because you have a tendency to cry that people misunderstand you, when the stuff you post generally is black and white, and far from accurate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Melbourne you mixed currency. 80m pounds is 97m euros. Bale transfer was 100m euros.
During August it was obvious Mata is not JM type of player + Chelsea signed Willian, it is not really hard to put 2+2.
WHAT I AM SURE ABOUT IS THAT JOSE MOURINHO AND ROMAN ABRAMOVICH KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING. ALSO MOURINHO IS VERY INSISTENT PERSON AND DOESN'T GIVE UP HIS TARGETS AND OBJECTIVES EASILY. THESE GUYS ARE SERIOUS PLAYERS.

Agree0 Disagree0

Once again ness you didn't deal with your first point, which is far and away the ludicrous one. "It is obvious Chelsea need to sell to buy". Care to elaborate, or should we just forget it?

Agree0 Disagree0

We practically just cashed 60m pounds after selling DeBruyne&Mata. For now we have spent 21m £ on Matic.
Well mate do you expect another signing. I do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mourinho was talking about FFP few days a go. From what he said it's hard to believe that we are going to spend 60-70m on striker or another AM.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jan 2014 04:59:42
If Mata is sold this January, what are the chances of an immediate replacement as we'll be left with only Schurlle as cover? This is the business end of the season and surely we'll need more bodies in the squad.
