Alright mate. No room for Hazard in that team? Criminal if you ask me. Even if you don't think the system works for him we need him on the pitch. Even when he wasn't at his best last season we were a better team with him on the pitch. Other than that your team is probably what I would go for unless we can get a decent CB in to replace either Terry or Cahill. Ivanovic is also a pretty good CB so can also be in the discussion.

22 Jul 2016 08:42:37
Yeah did u forget hazard or just decide to not put him in?
I'd go for a 424 to start with although I would like to see conte try a 3 at the back during this season.
My team:
Courtois
Aina Koulibaly Zouma Dave
Kante Fabregas/ Matic
Willian Batshauyi Costa Hazard

Although I think hazard is much more effective in a more central role this is somewhat close to what I think we will actually play.

Hey Ed's, We have some pretty decent players returning from loan Juan Cuadrado, Todd Kane, van Ginkel ETC. Will any of these guys be getting a look in next season?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed018's Note - Kane is in the middle of coming back from a ACL injury so he won't play any part with the first team any time soon. It looks like MVG will be loaned or sold. Cuadrado we will have to wait and see}

What was with today's game? It wasn't announced on the tour as far as I'm aware and even the official Chelsea Twitter feed seemed a bit confused and didn't have any minute by minute coverage. Great result to win 8-0 especially batshuayi getting 2 but the quality of opposition was no doubt poor. Did anyone see the game? I for one didn't, I don't even know if there was anywhere to see it.

Was a game for players who didn't get much game time on the tour.

Yh it was against a local side but I don't think there was any coverage. However certainly happy with the result.

22 Jul 2016 00:21:39
As above, the game was a closed-doors friendly - it replaced the second training session of the day. It's a good way for those who haven't played and/ or have just returned to the squad to get match sharpness and fitness.

I agree with all you said but our new number 23 needs to use both feet and I know he tried on his offside goal but please if your wide open you better shoot with your left foot because If that was a champions league game and he did the same thing he would be sitting on the bench for awhile! Great efforts from the young lad but those goals need to be put in for 33 million!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

21 Jul 2016 19:50:44
Agreed he should have used his left foot.
But it was his first few minutes in a chelsea shirt. if he thought he was going to miss. he'd rather look unselfish than crap.
Any other game I think he would have gone for it. it was just a friendly best get thoses out the way now.

I agree with you 100% wheelycfc.

21 Jul 2016 22:48:27
I don't think it was necessarily a bad thing he didn't shoot. It was a tight angle and he was potentially off balanced. He played a good pass to Moses who should've scored and if it wasn't for the defender (possibly illegally) blocking it on the line it would've been a goal! After yesterday and hearing about his 2 goals today I'm getting rather excited about watching him this season!

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2016 09:45:03
Also have to remember that the boy is not 100% for yet. If he was i'm sure he would have tucked it away. Look at his offside goal for evidence of that!

Personally, even though he's struggled a bit these last few years, I'd have taken the gamble and bought Gotze. £18m is rather cheap imo.

Loved the game yesterday.
The team showed real quality with the ball and the effort to get the ball back quickly
I thought Moses played very well just like the previous game. Tbh he deserves to be in the team next season, his work rates are incredible and his determination is great. The only problem with him is his shooting but that can be improved.
I thought Oscar played a lot better in a more deeper role and for the first time in a really long time I have been surprised by him rather than annoyed. Matic has a good game as did RLC in the midfield and when Chalobah came on he played exceptional. He definately deserves to stay at Chelsea next season. Aina had a solid game. I really want him to be our starting right back as he is 10 times better than Branna and finally Bathsauyi, for me, he had an excellent game. His first game with the club and he showed true class. He held the ball well and had the right intentions rather than being greedy throuoghout the whole game. Shame his goal was offside though.

Chalobah has to be in the squad this season. As for Moses, he's an enigma - brilliant pre-season again but not consistent. Batshuyi looks to be a bargain.

Agree1 Disagree2

21 Jul 2016 20:14:29
I have to disagree on your assessment of Chalobah. Excellent goal but looked rushed/ a little nervy the rest of the time. The first pre-season game he was really good.

He will only get better the more opportunities he gets - let's hope it's with us this season.

Agree0 Disagree1

21 Jul 2016 06:52:09
Really hope Aina gets his chance at right back this year! Should be ivanovic and zouma as the 2 CB. Both strong and good in the air and with zouma and Aina pace around ivanovic it will make up for his lack of pace. I personally think ivanovic is one of the better CB At the club I have for many of years but got wasted at right back because of that stupid tactic we done every time where cech would ping a goal kick out to ivanovic to head on. Aina looks class reads the game very well.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

21 Jul 2016 09:44:46
Aina definitely looks a major asset and hopefully will be included in the final squad. Clearly Conte is giving everyone a chance to shine and certainly to me, Moses is worth an inclusion. He looks fit and determined and obviously a threat and I think a goal or two will help as he appears to be trying just too hard when the opportunities arrive.

Question for EdOO1 if you're about mate. I saw you mentioned we are unlikely to go in for a traditional winger as Conte is unlikely to use one. Can you give some info on how he is likely to set up the team for the PL. Thanks buddy, and hope everything has been sorted since the GoFundMe page was set up.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate, all sorted now, it was only a short term problem. Thanks to everyone for the help!

Conte is known for looking at what he has and setting up a system to suit them. As you don't have any proper traditional wingers, no one who cuts outside to ping a cross in, he is unlikely to buy them to set up that way. Judging by his last couple of sides, he seems to have settled on a back 3, but that was only because centre backs were the main strength of both sides. So it may be that he reverts to a back four, but I think he has grown comfortable with a back three and will try to work with it if possible. It suits the players at the club, allowing him to work in an extra midfielder but still have two forwards.

I have to be honest, I am not convinced Conte is the right man, tactically he struggles badly in Europe, which is surely a major issue for a club with intentions of winning the Champions League? He seems unable to figure out opposing tactics quickly enough to pick up results.}

21 Jul 2016 06:04:04
Bit concerning there Ed? You think he will fail in the job? Am not overly convinced as of yet but did really know to much about him. He had a good euro and with better players to work with maybe he can make us a force again. But just get this feeling because we sacked every bloody manager out there it's come back to bite us on the arse. got to stick with this bloke no matter what now let him get players he wants and give him time to put his mark on the club.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it depends on what you call fail. I don't expect you to pull up trees in European competition, but he is capable of turning you into title challengers again. For me, he is the person you bring in to steady the ship and get it heading in the right direction, before you bring in the guy to take you to the next level.}

21 Jul 2016 06:56:54
Oh right well hope not! Not another manager who buys his players just for the next manager to not want. That's been our problem over the years you got players from different managers and you end up with problems. Conte very young as a manager with good experience just let him crack on for many of year don't boot him out when we hit a bad patch! Give him a couple of seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that's why you have other people doing the recruiting to a long term plan. Must be said you should have gone and got Steve Walsh back from Leicester. The recruitment has been poor in recent years.}

21 Jul 2016 07:05:26
Thanks for taking the time mate and glad to hear it's all sorted.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome mate and thank you, I am pretty glad myself!}

We're not in Europe this season. So has a full one to work on that.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 17:46:54
Not sure what you base that on ED01?
Conte has had just 2 European campaigns as a Manager, the first with Juve resulted in them being beaten by the eventual winners Bayern in the QF's and the second reaching the Europa league SM's!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ok if you say so.}

21 Jul 2016 17:55:00
G8 the fact they were in the Europa's tells you what?

Won't be a regular occurence TK but life is good mate. Hopefully you can say the same buddy!

One last one EdOO1 - how bittersweet is this fat scam news for you? Or is it straight up bitter? Strangely I think he will do ok in tournament competition. can't see football advancing in England while he is in charge though.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - I have no interest in England mate. It makes no difference to me.}

21 Jul 2016 22:28:37
He won 3 straight league titles with Juve Melbourne, the first season in the Champions League they got beat in the QF's by the eventual winners Bayern Munich! The second season they were knocked out in the group stage and went on to the SF of the Europa league. 3rd season he left to become Italy manager. Therefore, for me, not the worst record in Europe at all!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2016 23:12:30
I don't disagree mate, but the fact he got knocked out at the group stage in 50% of his attempts, with a team that dominated in Italy should show that EdOO1's comments have some basis in reality.

I'm not arguing the fact either way. Haven't seen enough of his teams play. We won't know for at least 18 months if he has been able to make the adjustments needed, if they're needed in the first place anyway. But personally I find when EdOO1 talks football you can be pretty confident he isn't talking nonsense.

Seen a post from ed 02 on the Italian page that juventus rejected a 100 million euro bid from Chelsea last summer interesting I wonder if mourinho got the man he wanted last summer would he still be at Chelsea I no transfers are difficult and I'm sure the club done all they could to get Jose his targets but interesting all the same.
