How in the world we have managed to get Steaua Bucharest in the next round is beyond me. What in the world happened to Ajax. Oh well, I'll take it.

Melbourne CFC

Believable6 Unbelievable4

Trip to Amsterdam planned in your head, must be a smoker? I'll tell you how it happened, steaua worked the magic at home and overturned an unlikely score! I'm a steaua fan in Romania but a chelsea fan all my life since petrescu anyway but I'm more afraid of steaua than I am of Ajax, they're in great form this season 16 points or so clear in the league topped they're Europa league group and have an intelligent coach that's brought in excellent players! They work extremely hard for eachother, the fans have been drawn and pack out the national stadium in their European fixtures and are loud, I really don't fancy playing there I hope our away form keeps up because if we lose it there, they will put 2 or 3 past us! They beat a very good Ajax side and remember what they did to city? Anyway sorry for long post just giving everybody an idea what were up against here if you don't already know!
Danny

Agree2 Disagree1

Thanks for that Danny, very informative mate. I think Ajax first choice keeper was given a rest, but Steaua must of played very well in order for them to beat Ajax. I don't know how my smoking habits should have anything to do with it either mate ;-)

Agree1 Disagree2

I live in Holland and heard from a Dutch friend of mine who supports Ajax that they played not to lose last night with lots of ball possession and just trying not to concede, and it backfired on them. I hope we don't make the same mistake.
Bruce

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah I watched the game and they came to win, it might have looked like that since they were rarely allowed past the back four, there was nutmegs going around and everything, anyway let's hope we get through. Smoking habits have everything to do with a potential trip to the Dam ha ha.

there you go JG, that's why rafa gets £5 million a year and you don't!!!!

Believable5 Unbelievable3

You're kidding right? He gets 5m a year to draw 1-1 at home to Sparta Prague? He makes a substitute and brings on a player, who should've been starting and you want to praise the bloke like he is a miracle worker.

You're a clown and I'm not surprised you didn't sign your post.

Agree4 Disagree2

Is that a joke, if Rafa got it right tonight we win 4-0 at least.

Agree4 Disagree1

Or if the players had got it right tonight we'd have won 4-0?

IB.

Agree8 Disagree1

Do you mean player IB? There was certainly one out there that could've put the tie to bed. I'm glad he is working his socks off, but he isn't exactly endearing himself to potential suitors.

Agree4 Disagree3

Extremely lucky that Athletico are in dire need of a striker in the summer and that he is a fan favorite and a viable option for them. Sods law saws he will do an ACL and be with us next year.

Agree1 Disagree1

Same tihs everytime we fail to take our chances in matches, Rafa gets blamed yet no-one credits him for chances created or dominating possession. I get it, you hate the guy.

Bluelab

Agree0 Disagree0

Bluelab

Agree0 Disagree0

So you were happy with the performance last night Bluelab? Or on that front any performance under Rafa so far? You think it was rafas 'genius' that won us that game, or was it one moment of brilliance from Hazard?

I can understand people's frustrations with Rafa copping it, no matter the result, but you must also accept no one wanted this bloke here. When he came he said he would win us over with results. I think I'd would be fair to say he has actually lost the faith of those supporters that backed him from the outset. The man is hopeless.

All he had to do was get results, have us challenging on cup fronts (Carling lost, CWC lost, Europa almost lost) and competitive in the league and the RM job was his. Now even some that backed him at RM aren't so sure and they are looking at other options.

He plays two holding mids against teams like Reading and Southampton (actually everyone) and shows he has absolutely no plan B. If it wasn't for the brilliance of Mata, Hazard and Oscar we would be in big trouble regarding top 4 and in the EL and FA Cup. The bloke deserves zero credit for our results because he makes no impact on games from the sideline. Bertrand LW, come off it! Absolutely clueless and I'm fed up with people on here having digs at fans for not supporting him. AVB didn't get most people's support on here when he was doing terrible (always had mine) so why in gods name should the fat waiter get it?

What the f. Taking the best player off. Why the hell would anyone do that? What is the point? Shaking in disbelief, seriuosly. This man has got no clue whatsoever.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

Who scored?

Agree6 Disagree0

Was it about who came on?

Agree2 Disagree1

He's not saying we doesn't want hazard on, just bring him on for someone else

Agree3 Disagree0

Hazard.
Wasn't he the player brought on?
I do have tactical nouse, my mummy and daddy said so.
I intend to play Torres against Manchester City and refuse to start John Terry because he is a meanie and doesn't like me.
I hope you on these fan-forums do not want a new manager in the summer as I am happy to announce I am close to agreeing an extended deal as manager and intend to bring alberto aquilani and ryan babel to the Bridge (which will be renamed Anfield II ) in order to get Torres to score again. I also have exciting plans to change the home kit from blue to red.
Ciao for now!
Rafael Benitez

Agree7 Disagree2

I would have thought he would've taken off Mikel and put Oscar deeper or just taken off Moses. Hazard scored.

Agree3 Disagree2

Rafa's a tactical genius

'to get Torres scoring again' - that will be doubling the width of the goals and allowing the keeper only to use one arm

May as well play with 10 men.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Who are you referring to? Mikel or Torres

Agree0 Disagree2

Get over it, mikel was solid today

Agree3 Disagree4

Look, we all know Torres isn't the striker he used to be and isn't likely to be prolific. He put a lot of effort in tonight and that's all we can expect/ask from him. The constant criticism of him on here is redundant. We're stuck with him, at least in the Europa League, so to constantly moan about him, when he puts in 110% effort and gets himself into good positions, is just ridiculous.

Agree4 Disagree1

Mille won a lot of balls. But gave away as many. I suggest watching his whole game not just tackles. Other than tackles he's useless. BLUEBOY1

21 Feb 2013 21:10:20
Why do pple put blame on the manager all the time? The hate is just too much. Even the best defences in Europe still concede goals. At least the players shd take responsibility for once. The squad is simply not great. If we've been coverting those begging chances, u'll certainly not be here moaning about a goal conceded.

Agree1 Disagree3

Moaning? Damn it, he said hehas sorted the defence in the second week since his arrival. Do I care about this goal? Hell no. Do I think he's a total mug - absolutely.

Agree3 Disagree0

What a load of twaddle, our squad is as good as anyones in the premier. If Jose had this squad, he would win the league. The managher is useless, us loyal fans who have been here for decades, told you what would happen, but the plastics wouldn't have it. The waiter was always going to be a disaster. The problem is, now the players don't want tp play for him.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Feb 2013 23:04:29
U are joking to think that Mourinho would win the league with this squad. Real Madrid are 3rd in La Liga several points behind Athletico Madrid. Not saying Rafa is the best man for the job, the squad is not great, simple. And if u don't know how a loyal fan behaves, go ask Arsenal. Booing the manager and players is not loyalty.

JG

Agree0 Disagree1

Because he is ridiculously over rated

Agree3 Disagree0

Oh, then what does it make Neymar?

Random question, but it makes neymar an extremely talented kid who we will never no is world class intil he moves to Europe. Benzema is woeful whenever I see him, which are mainly in the big matches for Madrid and France.

As a team Chelsea have got to start integrating young players from next season. 2 a season will be ideal. To start with omeruo and mceachran, then the season after piazon and lukaku. Then the season after ake and chalobah.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

I would have said Piazon and Chalobah are ahead of Omeruo as he doesn't he have a work permit to play in England. McEachran will probably get another loan and Ake 3 years away I would have thought would be to long.

Hope rafa doesn't weaken the team too much tonight. Already rested Iva and lamps. Resting Mata, Hazard and terry may be too far. With rumours of Ake starting, i'm starting to fear an upset tonight. Hope this is the team - Cech, Azpi, Cahill, Luiz, Bertrand, Mikel, Ramires, Marin, Mata, Hazard, Torres

Please don't mess this up Rafa!

Believable1 Unbelievable3

I'd love ake to start.

I would to. As for ramires Mikel midfield, you've just screwed us. It's a failure partnership.

AC Millan did a Chelsea on Barcelona and are being highly lauded. When Chelsea achieved it even with a man down at Camp Nou for most part of the game, they were being criticized and loathed.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

They can b**** all they want. Our names on the trophy and they won't be able to take that away from us.

Agree5 Disagree1

Not true. Barca didn't even have a sniff vs Milan. They wasted chance after chance against us. But barca under pep were better then they are now

If this is the team I am looking forward to seeing hazard play behind the striker and watch marin have a really good game just like the first leg.

Excellent result from the youth team against Barcelona, like many are saying the future certainly is bright - and blue.

This is a massive summer for Chelsea. New management will hopefully be joined by a partial reforming of the scouting team (the exit of Emenalo).

A full review of the youth system needs to be one of the priorities for the start of the summer, before massive amounts of money is spent on new players.

The players currently out on loan, along with some of the players currently at the club playing within the youth systems, need to be ruthlessly reviewed; if they aren't going to make it at the club don't send them out on loan again - get rid of them.

I hate to say it but serious questions have to be raised as to whether Josh McEachran is going to make it at the club, same goes for players such as Billy Clifford and Sam Walker. Ivanovic, Azpiliqueta, Kane and now Wallace are in front of Clifford at the club; he'll probably be a good pro but this probably won't be at Chelsea. Walker has Cech, Courtois and Blackman to contest with now; and the likelihood is another goalkeeper will be signed in the summer.

Ex 'superstars' of the youth system such as Gael Kakuta are deadweight now; yes he is doing reasonably well in Holland but he is so far down the pecking order with the first team that he is unlikely to break through at the club.

You are praising the youth, yet u want Emenalo to be sacked. Ironic!

Agree5 Disagree0

Agree with everything as usual Tyler, except Emenalo exit. I really rate his ability to get deals done and bring the top youth in the world to Chelsea. I honestly believe he (and the rest of the board) realised we would be left short in some competitions this year in regards to squad depth but have full faith we could manage Top 4. Players like Essien going on loan needed to happen. He wasn't offering anything towards the back end of last year, and although I realise he had come off another long injury, no club could have had much interest in buying him, without seeing him get games. Taking him and Raul off our wage book was a good thing, for me.

I know we won't see eye to eye on this, as I know most on here don't hold
Emenalo in high regards, but I personally do.

I also have doubts about Josh, but with him still only being 20, and having a lot of potential I see no harm in sending him out for one more season to see if he can reach KDB's level by 2014, as he has shown some big glimpses of what he is capable of this year. Players like Clifford, Walker, Hutchinson (depressingly), Delac, Kakuta, Bruma etc have to go. They will never be Chelsea quality for whatever reasons.

Melbourne CFC

Agree1 Disagree6

Clifford is cm/cdm/cam now

peds

Agree1 Disagree4

The vast majority of the youth team that I rate highly - Saville, Kane etc. are pre Emenalo.

I know he is one of the driving forces behind the move for Markovic, who I rate highly, but from my point of view we need a manager in the summer; not a head coach.

I can't see most top managers such as, for arguments sake, Mourinho willing to have Emenalo at the club in his current capacity.

Melbourne, likewise, I agree with most of the things you write but won't agree on Emenalo. {Ed002's Note - It is astonishing that people keep seeing issues with Michael Emanalo when just about everything written against him here is completely wrong.}

Agree1 Disagree3

Ed002 - Emenalo is Sporting Director / head scout isn't he?

From what I've read it is he that is pushing for Markovic, is this not true? {Ed002's Note - He is the Technical Director. When Markovic was playing he did go and watch him on several occasions.}

Agree1 Disagree0

I am pretty sure he had a part to play in bringing Feruz to Chelsea. Definately Piazon. Boga may also be one of his coups. He has well and truly brought our academy on leaps and bounds PB, and although like Ed said most don't understand the full extent of his work at the club (myself included). I just find it hard to take that most people on here seem to blame him for all our deficiencies. Our club, like many others, is run by the board from top to bottom with managers only having a input into transfers. The manager are there to manage the team they have to a degree and I don't see how this is a major problem. It has certainly held us in good steed since Roman and co implemented the system.

I, like most, would love a manager to come in and really stamp his authority on the entire club, much like SAF at United, but, I can't have any complaints when the people making the top level transfer decisions are bringing world class players to the Bridge.

Agree2 Disagree2

Meant Tyler not PB, sorry mate.

Agree1 Disagree1

If everything on here is wrong then please explain to us Emelanos role at club and how that corresponds to the manager then maybe we will understand. rather than just critiscising us. {Ed002's Note - It is not something that needs explanation. He is the Technical Director. I remain astonished that people, for no reason, have decided he is a problem when there is no rationale to support that. It does nothing more than subtantiate the box of rocks paradigm in my eyes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

You are wrong, some players don't fully physically grow by the time they are 18 look what happens to youngsters from everton. Pushed too hard too young! Mceachran is a better passer of the ball then any of our centre midfielders we have now. Do any of you remember mceachran v Newcastle? You don't lose that over night. His passing his runs. Unbelieveable. Agreed by clifford comments but mceachran no no.

Agree0 Disagree0

Does the box of rocks paradigm imply we all are clueless ed?

Hope the sarcasm wasn't lost on you ed002. {Ed002's Note - It wasn't M}

After watching Chelsea's U19's last night I am really excited about the future of CFC, Jeremie Boga looks a real talent, so much pace and dribbling ability, combined that with Conor Hunte and Islam Feruz with Loftus Cheek still progressing. 2 - 0 away from home against Barcelona not bad hey.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Didn't get the chance to watch the game PB, so thanks for that. Boga seems to be the most recent gem we have unearthed. What makes it all the more impressive is the fact we are doing it without Chabolah, Piazon, Bamford, Kane, Hazard etc. The future definately looks good, and the youths are obviously in good hands.

Agree1 Disagree2

Boga played for the U19's away at Barcelona and was the best player on the pitch for me, he had a run where he skipped passed 4 players and played a killer ball which we should have done better with, the guy is still a Chelsea school boy.

Unbelievable {Ed002's Note - Much is expected of him.}

Agree2 Disagree1

ED do you know how contracts work for youth players and academy players and so on. I would imagine someone like Todd Kane who is an academy player but has been on loan at Blackburn will be on a professional contract? {Ed002's Note - It is driven by age. Professional contracts cannot be signed beforea player is 18.}

Agree1 Disagree0

So do players under 18 have rolling one year development contracts or could a 14yr old be signed to a 4yr academy contract {Ed002's Note - Neither. There are very strict limits on what children can and cannot do and what they can sign in terms of contractys.}

What happened to Matej Delac?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

He is on loan at Inter Zapresic in Croatia. I believe he is their first choice keeper at the minute.

Agree0 Disagree0

Does he have any future at the club, he looked a decent keeper a few years ago, only 20 as well

Agree0 Disagree0

I would doubt it JD. He would be 4th or 5th choice currently. With Courtois and Cech at the club, I don't see a future for many of the other keepers (Delac, Walker, Turnbull, Blackman).
