Some fans need to realise that not everything JM says to the press is true. We are pursuing other targets other than Rooney.

Ed even though Jose has apparently ruled out De Rossi surely we can't go into the season with Mikel as our main Defensive midfield again can we?

I'm not as confident as most our two main positions which we needed world class players were defensive midfield and striker and apart from Lukaku we've failed to get someone in.

Ino we've signed van Ginkel but he's more of a box to box player.

U are 100% right we need world class defensive mid mikels not good enough

Agree0 Disagree0

Essien looking good in the preseason

Mourinho on David Luiz:

"For me, Luiz is a central defender. I think he has an important quality for the football we want to play, which is to build. He's comfortable using the ball from the back.
In this aspect, he's very important and different from the other central defenders. He can improve, everybody can. From a defensive point of view, he can be much more effective, much more solid. But, for me, the potential is incredible, amazing. He has to play always. "

Mourinho words on Torres:

"Fernando is a striker, nobody has doubts about it, but I think he's a striker more comfortable when he has space behind defenders. He has it more difficult when opponents are very close, when opponents are compact and when he has to play in small spaces. "
"He's more a player to go into a space than to play with the ball at his feet. That's something easy to understand about Fernando, so I will try to do my best. "
"I think when Chelsea plays with that philosophy he can. Against teams who compress the play very close you have to play him in small spaces, and he will have a little bit more difficulty. At Liverpool they played much more of a 'low block', and he had balls to attack behind defenders. In that aspect he was a lot more comfortable. Sometimes it's easy to say a player is not performing but that might not be fair because sometimes the way you play decides if someone is more or less comfortable on the pitch. "

What do you guys think (Eds as well as posters). Will Piazon fulfill his massive potential or will he be kind of a disappointment? I haven't seen enough of him to give an opinion. Debate

Jackson

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have seen him play a fair bit and I don't see anything special in him.

Physically he is fairly average, not strong, not quick. I don't think he is fantastic in front of goal, and his passing is good but not great.

Also I am not sure he knows what his best position is, wide left or central.

I hope I am wrong and hope he gets a chance at CFC but at the moment I don't hold out to much hope.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ohhh, give me a break. He took the FA youth cup by storm. Showed great finishing and was clearly a class above anyone else in that tournament - fair enough they are youth players but u still have to go out there and do it. He made his debut for Chelsea in his teens and Malaga (a team QF of Champs League) used him regularly as a sub so he obviously isn't too shabby. The lad has so much potential!

Agree0 Disagree0

I might be looking through blue tinted glasses but I think he'll be a good player, thinking back to his cameo appearance against villa last year he was very positive, linked up well with other attackers and he played well in the youth team. Don't think he'll be the new ronaldo or anything but certainly a good player.

As for me with the exception of HAZARD piazon is as Good as all the attacking midfeilders we have, the only difference for me is he is younger and lacks exposure, fingers crossed, time will tell, technically he is Good, passing Good and he read the striker movements his through pass on goal is super, just hold me to my words, when get the chance you will all see what I meamt, I am eager for the season to start

Agree0 Disagree0

From what I've seen I think he will. Very comfortable with the ball, good finisher, good passer and still young enough to grow physically. One thing that really stands out to me though is how forward thinking he is, whenever he receives the ball he naturally seems to turn goal wards

Blue john

Agree0 Disagree0

He's 19 and on the verge of breaking into one of the best senior squads in the world. He's good.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me he has more promise than josh mackecren

B) Varane
C) De Rossi
D) Xabi Alonso
E) Modric
F) Bruma
G) Halilovic
H) Higuain
I) Rooney
J) Yilmaz
K) Ibrahimovic

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ibra, Halilovic and Varane

Agree0 Disagree0

De Rossi, Ibra and Varane.

Although I would take Rooney, Bruma and De Rossi very happily.

Agree0 Disagree0

De Rossi
Ibrahimovic
Varane

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

De rossi, Ibrahimovic and Bruma.

Agree0 Disagree0

Varane and Higuain - possibly de Rossi

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone who would take Higuain over Rooney or Ibra has clearly never watched him play!

who would Chelsea fans prefer?

A) Rooney
B) Ibrahimovic

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ibrahimovic easily.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd be very happy with either of them to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't want either. rooney isn't as good as his hype - and his best position is behind a main striker - a position we we are not lacking players for - and I don't think he's as good as either Oscar, Hazzard or Mata in that position.

Ibras good - but not sure if he suits our style, and he's getting on a bit. Possibly as a 2 year stop gap to enable Lukaku to grow, and another younger top notch striker to be sourced over those 2 years.

If I had to choose - Ibrahimovoc would get my vote. In fact If rather keep Torres.

Agree0 Disagree0

How could anyone want to keep Torres over signing Rooney or Ibra! It in senses me that some so called 'fans' still believe that Torres will come good. May I remind you that this is the player that scores 1 goal in 2013 in the BPL before the last day of the season. Get rid of him and his astronomically wages that he doesn't justify a penny of. Just cause he scored 4 against Tahiti.

Eds, when a player is sponsored by say Nike and wants to sign for Chelsea (adidas). Can this cause problems with potential transfers.

I hate the word pivot.
Mourinho

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Word "pivot" is used in sports like handball and water polo. It represents player closest to opponent goal, who is strong enough to hold on a ball until rest of his team mates join the attack.
In football it is CENTRAL FORWARD position, not attacking midfielder behind central forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

People are actually using the term for the deeper lying mids, not a #10. Shocking term to use in football and should be irradiated asap

Agree0 Disagree0

What are you on about ness? All you posts are totally mind numbing.
Cfcmatt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fully agree with post before cfcmatt. Do not use words you don't understand. And if you use them try to do it for adequate position.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ness you are an person. In football it is use to described the midfield 2 that link the defense and attacking players. I personally hate the term and would be happy if I never heard it again!

Alright guys/Eds, if you were Jose and could make up to 2 more (realistic) signings this window, who? or would you stickwith the current squad?

I'd go for Higuain and Di Rossi and I think we'd be good for the season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would say Bruma and Higuain

Agree0 Disagree0

Josa ruled out interest in De Rossi. He is more than happy with Lampard, Essien, Mikel, Ramires and v. Ginkel.

Agree0 Disagree0

De Rossi and Rooney.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree0

Any of Rooney, Ibra, Martinez, Yilmaz preferably.
