To lighten the mood a bit since last night's defeat and the fact we didn't sign a striker, lets have a little fun and name our 3 worst players in a chelsea shirt we have SEEN...

My vote would be Slavisa Jokanovic, Marco Ambrosio and probably Florent Malouda of just last season.

Looks like City will be our main challengers.
Good performance by them Silva was just magical and Tevez looks lean and mean.We also need a Yaya Toure kind of player in order to win balls and release all our attackers .
But I believe even if we are lacking in some parts in the midfield if get our act together and play as a team then we are in for a hell of a ride.I believe we will do very well in all competitions this season. We may not win them all but we will be close.
Guys here is something funny:
The shi*e commentator in last night's match said,"Chelsea's real strength will be shown when they play big teams like Liverpool,Man u".
I mean Man u is ok but Pool seriously!
By the way anyone has any idea who was the commentator during last night's game. He was literally abusing Chelsea through the match.Shocking really.
Also the haters are out in full force. One former Man u player said this of City buying Sinclair"Not sure about him I mean he did not even make it at Chelsea".
I mean now that we are not playing I reckon they will be hosting parties celebrating our Super Cup loss.Well my message to them is enjoy while you can because we will be back with a vengeance. That's what we do don't we.

ED002 regarding the striker's position when was it decided that we were happy with what we have and would not be pursuing a new striker? But are we still looking to sign 1 in January? And is Cavani still the preferred choice or has he signing a new contract ruled him out from joining us? {Ed002's Note - Nobody is thinking about January just yet.}

cech dives in with his feet everytime, goalkeeper training says go in with your hands, why isnt this being taught to CFC goalies?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Because its the wrong thing to do you make yourself big and then throw yourself towards the ball his feet naturally slide out to make the goal smaller

curt

Agree0 Disagree3

Oh too add if cech dived with his hands he would be doing a klinsmann everytime ... thats just silly

curt

Agree0 Disagree3

I think Cech is very paranoid to go in with his hand because its alot more dangerous to get it in the head, I talk from experience as a keeper, it hurts when you get it in the face! Still he is definatley one of the best keepers in the world and dont just remeber the drogba penalty, remeber Cech saves!

I have played keeper for 14 or 15 years and was the starter for my high school and I will second that it hurts like hell to get kicked in the head be you are suppose to come out, cut the angle, and make your body big while trying to get your hands down. Yes it is true. People just resent the fact we have an owner who is personally involved and supports the club the way he does. We should of given Kalou another 2 years. Good back up, never complained about being on the bench and scored a few goals too.

This is the team that i would like to see us play against QPR:

Cech

Ivanovic*Cahill*Terry*Bertrand

Meireles*Mikel

Moses*Oscar*Hazard

Sturridge

-Sturridge ahead of Torres because QPR have a slow defence they won't cope with Sturridge's pace)(And Torres has to know he isn't the only CF at the club.

-Just to maybe freshen things up a little bit.

Believable2 Unbelievable5

I'm hoping you left mata out so he could have his 2 week rest.

Agree1 Disagree0

Azpilicueta at RB, i though Ivanovic was awe full last night, threw possession away so cheaply in the first half.

Agree4 Disagree1

No rami, no cole, no mata, as well as keeping in the worst player yesterday (ivanovic), and no Torres either. That's a balsy lineup.

Tk

Agree2 Disagree1

Torres hatrick last year?

Agree1 Disagree1

You can't just look at one game's display from Iva. he's been brilliant,To shake up your defence with a player who hasn't played for the club yet is stupid,Mata needs a rest,Ramires might have picked up a knock wouldn't wan take a risk with him seeing we already loaned out our other box to box player,Bertrand,Oscar, moses and Sturridge are raring to go play!Torres scored a hat-trick against a different QPR and note LAST SEASON...This team i picked is not the strongest just a revitalized one.

haven't written in a while because I've been away but tried to keep up as much as possible. Here's my assessment of not only last night, but the wider picture.
1. As good as our starting 11 looks on paper, I think it lacks a great defensive midfielder (look at real madrid or bayern who play a similar formation). their holding mid's consist of players who are great passers and great posistional play such as alonso, scheweistenger etc and I think this was clear last night. we were constantly getting counter attacked and lampard was too old and not good enough to track back their midfielders whilst mikel is not good enough.
2. Although we are trying to implement a new attacking football style of play, this position just does not suit some of our key players. I already mentioned lampard but the other problem is ramires. one of our best players last season, he is just completely ineffective as a winger. but not sure if putting him in the middle would solve the problem either. against the lesser teams it doesnt seem to be a problem but against the better teams (such as man city, athletico) we just cant seem to get the balance right.
i would love for us to experiment with a 433 against better teams, a bit like we did in the champions league last season but not as defensive and possibly try out a combo of romeu and oscar as our midfield two (could be tried out in the capitalone cup?)
but saying all of this, we are a very young team, top of the league with 3/3 and shouldn't necessary read too much into last night because we were shocking and athletico were brilliant.

Vincent

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I think the issue with an oscar Romeu pairing is both of those two arent necessarily high speed ball winners much like our current pairing. That being said you would see some tempo with those two playing.

Tk

Agree0 Disagree0

With the 4-3-3 if Oscar dropped deeper and opperated in line with his CM partner, with Obi, or Romeu as the DM we would have a flexible formation with creativity and defensive strength.

Agree1 Disagree0

Nah for me romeu is a good ball winner and also a good passer. and with a 433, i reckon our best pairing would be mikel/romeu, ramires and then oscar/lampard. ramires will provide the legs and speed whilst the other two will provide a balance

Vincent

Agree0 Disagree0

For me I'd go Romeu and rami. Romeu dictates tempo stays back and can break up play. Rami brings energy, has license to get forward, and can also break up play.

Would quite like to see all the older players shipped out next summer, and a loanees brought in to replace them.

My Team 2013-14
GK: Thibaut Courtois
RB: Cesar Azpilicueta
CB: Jeffrey Bruma/Chalobah
CB: Tomas Kalas
LB: Ashley Cole (i know he's older but always top class)/ Ryan Bertrand
CDM: Nathaniel Chalobah/Oriol Romeu
CDM: Ramires
RAM: Victor Moses
CAM: Eden Hazard
LAM: Juan Mata
ST: Torres/Falcao (any experienced striker to lead the team)

ChelseaL

Believable3 Unbelievable5

I'm sorry mate but Jeffrey Burma ain't good enough. And it's not like luiz and Cahill are older lot. Stupid post that team would win f all

Agree6 Disagree2

By loanees i mean, courtois, bruma, kalas etc etc. Players who are currently on loan from us.
ChelseaL

Agree0 Disagree1

Awful team selection. Cahill would only be 28, Luiz would have 2 more seasons experience and hopefully be more defensive minded. Ashley Cole would be 33, Bertrand should be starting. The rest isn't too bad but what about Oscar?

Agree2 Disagree0

Whilst it is a nice idea....it is far too early to introduce all these kids at once....and really...would we pick either Chalobah or Romeu over Oscar who we've just invested in heavily for the future? This team would really struggle to make top 6

Biggest losers last night apart from the team being bent over and smashed by some columbian sausage is the eds. Going to have 4 months of questions about Cavani, hulk and every other striker going. Personally I think our main effort should be fellani, he would bring a lot to the party. Our midfield was a joke yesterday, our best option in there is lamps and mireles. Anyway Eds enjoy the next 4 months, think they will be painful boys
Dan73

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Fellani plays more as an AM off or off the striker. We have more than enough players for that position. We need a ball-winner.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need midfielders who can compete physically and who can retain the ball and move it forward to the attackers.
We used to dominate the midfield every game when lamps ballack essien and makelele were together.
Now we get over run by the better teams.
Its no coincedence that last season we scored less goals and conceded more, the midfield did not protect the defence leaving them exposed and could not move the ball to the strikers quickly enough to mount effective attacks.
Unfortunately from what we have seen so far this season we are in for more of the same.
In my opinion we shouls have signed a dynamic powerfull midfielder who could control games.

Michael Essien may have played his last game for Chelsea. I for one hope he rediscovers his form at Madrid, he was a great for Chelsea and its been sad to see his career plighted by injury. It'd be a pleasure to see the old bison back, if not in blue then in white!

I am really diappointed that we couldn't buy a striker. Why we always go for a famous one - that cann't bear the weight of their price in our field! There are many 15/20 goal a season strikers for £5m /£15m and will have drive to be a star. We should learn from Arsene Wenger and apply this to our team. If loan window is still open let's get some one on loan otherwise I can see trouble ahead. Is it that Roman or other chealse highrachy wants DM out by not allowing this to happened!!

K Zaman

Believable0 Unbelievable2

I agree why do we always go for the ready made superstars. Look at Everton 6million for Jelavic and about 5 for Mirallas. What we needed was a back up and a different style of player to give us a plan B.
And as for letting Essien leave without a replacement we will regret that, look at Mikel last night.

99% of the people complaining about the fact we didnt sign a striker yesterday also complain that youth never gets a chance at Chelsea. Should Torres or Sturridge get injured then someone will get their opportunity, if we'd have signed another striker yesterday then the likes of Bamford might as well leave the club now and Lukaku might as well not bother coming back!

We have got a very good, young squad and this will be a good season. Can we please accept that Torres is the main man and Obi Mikel is going to be starting most games in midfield and get back to supporting them. I've been critical of Obi Mikel, and would have preferred another player in his position, but there is a bit of a witch hunt culture being aimed at him right now; it's a bit over the top - especially when his last two performances have been good!

Thank god the transfer window is shut, let's get back to the football!

Well the good things about last night's result was that it is a wake up call for the team.Reading some of the tweets by the players atleast they have realized how poor they were and will definitely work harder in the upcoming matches. All the players know just how poor they were and that the fans deserved a better showing.
Lets not forget all the positives so far this season:
1)We have brought many class players.
2)Torres looks sharp and is hungry.Even in last night's match at times he looked to take on defenders whenever he got the ball.
3)Hazard has the potential to play as well as Messi and Ronaldo.
3)Oscar looks to be a very very composed player just the kind if player we need in the middle.
4)Mikel is improving and is actually running just needs to tackle and make some challenges to win some balls.
5)Marin is still play.He is a very very good player.
6)Cesar and Mosses both have bright future and look very promising.
We can only get better.
Let the haters hate and underestimate us ,don't we just love that.
I am sure when we gel and the team comes together we will be one of the finest teams ever.
It is all up to RDM now.He has the resources and only has to use them well to succeed.

The loss against At. Madrid might be a good thing in the long run. It's a nothing game, much like the community shield, that should be treated more like a friendly than anything else! I'd rather loose that than loose a Premiership or Champions League match, but hopefully Di Matteo has used this loss to put a flea in the players ears and a rocket up their backsides! Let them know that just because they won their first three league matches they shouldnt believe the hype just yet!

Believable0 Unbelievable5

A nothing game? Its silverwear and a recognisable acheivement. We could have atleast shown some respect and desire as a team, if not for themselves then for the fans who give their time/money and support for them. Its as Drogba once said "A F-ing Disgrace!".

Horrible night for us on the football pitch, shocking to see how easily we were cut open on the break again and again. But hopefully the team and RDM will take something from this game and learn what not to do in future!
Irritatingly i couldn't watch the second half, which was most annoying because i wanted to see Oscar play, can anyone who saw the whole thing tell me how he did. I saw some highlights and it looked like he was involved in some good things?
Hopefully this performance wont affect our league form, and we will see a return to form against QPR!

As we've missed out on a top striker I think a good option would be micheal Owen, he's free and as we've seen at Manu he's happy to warm the bench. He's lost most of his pace but still knows where the goal is, could be a good striker for the lesser games and competitions which would give us chance to rest nando, he would also keep injury free as he wouldn't play that much!
Maybe a good option?

Jeez, you lot are as bad as the United fans on the United site. I think Chelsea and United have both bought well. Chelsea are light up front, United are light in the middle but both teams have strengthened well. City have bought poorly (other than Garcia) and Arsenal have gone backwards. I think United and Chelsea will be back fighting it out this year. Who knows, in January, you might but a centre forward, we might but a centre midfielder and then we'll all be happy.

Mikel:Whenever he got the ball I closed my eyes couldn't watch
Hazard:5/10:Couldn't do much really nothing like the other performances

There was a clear lack of service to Torres. You can't really blame him too much. He was running around the whole match trying to win back the ball and make space. It was clear that our problem was in midfield and there was defensive problems. I doubt Falcao could have scored with the amount of service Torres received.

Agree2 Disagree1

I dont recall him running round and trying to win the ball back, just with his hands on his hips huffing and puffing because he wasnt getting the ball to his feet.

Agree1 Disagree3

Torres was coming back and winning the ball back all the time, he worked harder than any other player in our team. I hate how whenever we lose its Torres' fault, when it never is! Rant over.

Well I for one I'm glad the transfer window is closed. Yeah we didn't get a striker but we got a handful of priceless young talent in our team. I mean Marin, Hazard, Oscar, Moses and Juan. With players like that its almost Certain Torres would score in every game. At least I know I would :).
As for the CDM role Mikel looks to have read this site cause he has improved though I would still like to see Romeu given a chance, Lamps for me is past his best. Rami has to move there or Meireles has to start, perhaps that's were our problem lies, just hope RDM can see what we see.

Its still gonna be a good season, we have the players to push for the league to the last day, so let's support the team and hope for the best.

I do have to wonder about the loan of Essien. The majority of fans feel he is better than Mikel and regardless of whether he is or not, the fact remains that if he is good enough for Real Madrids squad he should be good enough for ours. The worst part about it for me is the fact that he went out on loan. He's been plagued by injury for the last 2 years and is now 29 years old. Whilst a good season with Real Madrid could see his price rise or come into our team next year, if he were to become injured again there would be no chance of selling him. Perhaps we should of simply cut our losses and sold him this year. What does everyone else think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally he would have started in my team, he looked good pre season. Mikel and Lanpard aren't up to scratch I'm afraid.

I know its great for the site that its very populated with posts now but i have to admit that seeing a lot of these negative is very off putting and makes me think about how the site used to be. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but there's a line between supporting the team and being unreasonable. It used to be all chelsea related things with some friendly banter and a bit of stick with the liverpool fans, but now its filled with arguments about spelling and that friendly banter is generaly abusive. Get behind the team, and be thankful that our club is in the financial position to buy world class players like mata, torres, hazard etc.

Once everyone has stopped bitching and moaning they will realise that Chelsea have a strong team that will do well this season.
We have a solid keeper, a world class left back, a new right back that looks like Ferreira in his prime, 3 world class CBs (2 of which are consistent), a new mikel that can pass and dribble, probably the best line of attacking midfielders in the prem, In Torres we have a tireless striker who works for the team and in sturridge we have a hungry young striker that will score goals but needs to pass a bit more.

The only part of the team that raises questions is whoever plays alongside mikel.

So stop moaning about the team

Right here is the problem after watching that travesty last night. Our midfield cant cope with physical players, thats not a good sign for us in anyway shape or form. Our defense.......well you must have seen how easy it is for teams to get through us, we looked like England at the Euro's, just backed off and invited them in our box, not good when you have Falcao on the other team, hence the hat-trick. We have skilled attacking players but nobody likes to run at the opposition and pull players apart making space for others, only Hazard has tried but the others seem to be restricted to the slow build up and very little movement. Someone once said to me "Torres looks like he doesnt want to play for you" and I have to admit I think he was right, he lacks drive and passion, spends most of the time stood still and cant be bothered. He does nothing to inspire confidence and he is plain awful as a lone striker. Fill Drogbas boots? He has alot of filling, not strong enough and flat footed, personally i'd have transfer listed him when he wanted to know whether or not to look for another club at the end of last season. I hate to admit it but I dont think Lampard and Terry have a place in the squad anymore and Ashley Cole is going down the same road too, Chelsea need a strong manager to say they respect them as players but they are not owed a place in the line up, we have to move on once and for all.

Now the window is closed we can all think about football and football alone.
Marley

Agree7 Disagree6

Ed018 while everything u said is true i think you and Melbourne are missing an important point. I know Kevin was going on about a player or players(That'snot my thing, i sincerly believe we have enough tallent right now to compete and win every competition we're in) but the real issue is- what evidence is there that those in control (RDM &staff) see the same things we see or even agree that they need to change?

Example, from the meaningless summer tour games some of us could tell that the holding mid duo didn't fit and yet it those are our starters. Haven't u seen comments from last season about Ramires being wasted at RW and still no change.

TBH even in our 3 win start we haven't played 90 of good football mainly because the pieces on the pitch are not a good fit. So when i hear stop moaning and its only 1 game, i'm thinking - what will be different next time.

Although no reasonable fan expect us to go unbeaten, these frustrations have been building because we didn't have to waste an opportunity to take our 1st Supercup.

Clearly the only fan above is Melbourne! Let's get some stuff straight:
1) if you don't want to watch your team because a player who you rate is playing then you're not a proper fan! I sit and watch every game they play, regardless of who is in the starting line up, such as last night where I sat and watched the whole game even though they were getting hammered!
2) Roberto Di Matteo won us the Champions League last year, so for me, I'd take his football knowledge a fair bit more seriously than yours Kevin and Florida fan! He is also a legend at the club from his playing days!
3) Mikel at the end of last season was fantastic! If he hadn't been playing then we wouldn't have won the Champions League...........which means..........no Hazard, no Oscar, no Azpilcueta!!! They're all players that probably wouldn't be here if we hadn't won the Champions League......won by Di Matteo!
4) Remember last night was a glorified friendly!

what a game 2nite......
our defenders were all over d place.....
the passing of mikel n lampard is so fast and forward that even attacking midfielders of atletico madrid able to walk back and cover the goal post.....
lampard was passing ball behind and sideways and running forward......
as it if he goes in goal post its gonna b goal.....
was never in position of holding midfielder......
ivanovic when he lost the ball he even didnt tried hard to get back in defence......
luiz very well talented but RDM needs to remind him that he is defender not attacking midfielder to go forward all d time.....
falcao was gr8 2nite.....
we must give all d credit 2 him.....
but at d same time we should realise how many goal scoring opportunities torres had......
did he get d required service.....
i would say absolutely not.....
there r few changes i am in favour...
1) dont play lampard and mikel together
2) bring ramires back in pivot role rather than using him on right wing or even play meireles with mikel.
3) use romeu in place of mikel
4) use oscar in central attacking midfielder role rather than on left wing
