I don't have an issue with lukakus strike rate. its decent. he also looks decent sometimes. I just worry that chelsea need a striker that can make his own goals. Torres was great at the bin dippers Sutton was great at Blackburn. Sheva was great at Milan. and let's not forget how good Fleck was at Norwich. Drogba, hasselbaink costa make stuff happen themselves. They were quality signings who continued to deliver the same level after we signed them and more. As I stated on my recent post, I am happy that if we sign him I will support him completely as I would anyone who pulls on the shirt ( i was wrong about costa to be fair) I'm just concerned at his general play as we have a more intricate style these days. does he suit it.? As for whether it's a Conte signing or Emanalo. , I sincerely hope it's the former.

Just hope conte can get him to work hard, improve his touch, and learn when and how to make runs. He coukd be a great player but nowhere near that at the moment. Just comes across as lazy and uninterested half the time. This is of course if the rumours of Chelsea trying to sign him are true.

Alright ed I don't like blagging you about players but in your own personal opinion do you see Costa going and Lukaku coming?

Who would be interested in/ can afford Costa though? Atletico would be the obvious suitor but just bought gameiro and don't have the deepest pockets. Real might want to replace benzema but could they convince costa to betray (i know i know) the rojiblancos? Juve blew the bank on higuain, bayern and Barcelona have solid strikers so probably not. PSG look set to finally let cavani lead the line, but perhaps they'd want the depth/ keep edinson in wing purgatory. Not sure any other continental clubs would have the geld to play at this table unless a wildcard goes all in. Otherwise we're looking at china/ middle east or another english club, with the drawbacks being a low prestige league or still in england (assuming that's a major drawback for Diego) .

All speculation on my part of course.

Being linked with Thiago Maia of santos, seems an interesting one, certainly has talent and would really suit the system, does anyone have any insight about this, eds or other posters? Apparently have sent someone out to Brazil to convince santos to sell him to us for 15 mil?
Also any developments on Oscar is it true or a kid or rubbish?

I think a lot of posters here need a reality check on Lukaku. his scoring record in the PL Is extraordinary for his age, you also need to think that after leaving and then wanting to come back he must have some real motivation. I for one will be over the moon if he signs, could not care less about the fee. as for everyone saying Chelsea are going to collapse and if we don't sign players we are doomed blah blah blah, are you kidding me? 14/ 15 league title winners and during that season, for the first half we were one of the most dominating sides of PL history. all it takes is hazard to hit form and fabregas to find his feet and we have the best playmaker and best player in the country. zouma is also going to be the best CB imo. i'm sorry if my points and views are kind of scrambled and this seems like a rant but i'm sick of the constant negative opinions as I have a really good feeling abous season, conte seems class and we are also going into it as underdogs which has always suited us.

I don't rate Lukaku personally but I do rate Costa. Then again though if it's true Costa doesn't want to be here anymore then I'd rather a player start up front for us who wants to play for Chelsea than one who doesn't.

you say you don't rate him, but what do you mean? you don't rate him good enough for Everton or good enough for Chelsea or do you not rate him as a good enough replacement for costa? I just think we have to be realistic and if we are, I think he is the best feasible replacement we can get and i'd rate the best feasible replacement. he is still young and his touch will improve with great coaching.

I agree whoneedshistory end of the day a strikers job is to score goals And a 1 in 2 ratio for Everton last season is not to be sneered at. With the likes of hazard creating goals that he would easy be a 20 goal a season minimum. He's a natural goal scorer. He's young. His first touch can be worked on in training! This mysterious attitude issues would be my only cause for concern.

cavani is a good bit older and is a gamble as he has never played in the EPL.

I think as a goal scorer lukaku is OK to good, as a football player I think his movement, positioning, making runs, passing, link up play, TOUCH, I think he is average to awful when technique is the measure, but he is big fast and strong, I personally don't like big clumsy strikers I prefer the more technically gifted type of strikers, I will be disappointed if we sign him I don't care about fees, I just don't enjoy watching him play.

perhaps I am way off the mark and just plain wrong but would you not liken him to drogba for his style of play? if so I find it hard to believe that you don't like that type of striker (drogba is certainly my favourite ever striker)

Ronaldo 9 is my favourite striker ever loved his skill, drogba was different class to lukaku, drogba would score 30 yard volleys, Liverpool and Barcelona, Everton spring to mind, all sorts of goals, I remember Cech smashing the ball up to drogba with men at his back, and the ball would just stuck to his chest, I've got nothing against lukaku personally, I just enjoy don't enjoy watching him play, I want a striker who can drop of a little get involved in the play, link up and swap positions with hazard, Willian fabreagas, I know this isn't fantasy football, but I think having a big striker who isn't the best at football forces us to go long, then miss out our midfield, I love the strikers like augero, griessmen, Suarez, take goals out of there game and they still got assists and skill, take goals from lukaku and you basically got a pub player, if we are willing to spend 60-70 million on him just go out and bid for liwendowski, greismen, who other else you want.
