Been reading some of the comments from the glass half empty (or as Dubliner puts it, the negative nellies), and thought a postive (glass half full) comment was needed. Having had sustained trophy laden years under Roman we hit a wall last season. Fact. I for one believe this was more to do with Jose losing the plot than the club going backwards etc. Yes, some signings didn't work out, that will always happen. Yes, some players were sold who should still be here, KDB etc. (Down to Jose again) . Again though, it happens everywhere. Ed02 has consistently explained that the manager does not have the full say on transfers, we, you, know that, it is the european way. It certainly doesn't mean the club is going backwards, far from it. Manager's come and go, the club identify the players needed and wanted and try to bring them in with not only the short term but also the longer term in mind. Nothing wrong in that. Some of the players we were linked with were not possible for a variety of reasons but mainly the selling club not being interested in selliing but also the lack of champions league football. It happens so other targets come in. Again, not the club going backwards. We bought in a world class player in Kante, a good 3rd choice keeper, a striker with enormous potential whose chance will come and a left back who might surprise a few when given his chance. Onto Luiz who just happened to keep Diego in his pocket when we played PSG and was also such a threat going forward. A real leader as well. Good business done. We also kept our better players and have some fantastic talent out on loan who will come back when ready. All positive in my book. Onto Conte, just walked through the door and already we are in the top 6! Early day's, but I expect us to stay in touch all season. All positive. Onto Roman, have a look at the passion he shows for the club compared to the faceless owners of Liverpool and utd and Arsenal who are only hanging around for the investment. Club going backwards?, I don't think so. Again, all positive for me. We are in good shape and will challenge but a bit of patience is needed. For those of you who are not fully aware of our history have a look at Bolton away when Clive Walker scored late on to avoid relegation to the old division 3 coupled with huge debt at the time. We would possibly not be watching our great club and even having these debates now! Sorry for the long post, just trying to put a positive spin on things. Chelsea with passion.

G8: Don't forget da_dubliner joined the negative nellies after Saturday's game. We will all have a differing view on this site but it is widely reported through Sunday up until today that Abramovich is not happy and one paper reporting that Conte was unhappy they failed to get any of the players he suggested. Tonight is an important game for morale and I hope we do not mess about with the team for the hell of it; make changes not least with Ivanovic and maybe Matic and hopefully a decent bit of game time for Bats.

hi just like to put a few points across or maybe a lot
in my humble opinion chelsea have gone backwards in last 3 years and il explain my opinions why
TRANSFERS ins and outs
i honestly other than zouma kante this year can't remember a transfer were we bought a player that was better than what we already had
yes you can argue costa luis felipe came in but cole and drogba were finished already
Hazard and i know i'm going to get mauled over this i don't rate him as highly as most il explain later
luiz and alonso really is luiz better than cahill and ivanovic in the middle no there all no were near world class.
alonso is he better than rahman luis felipe we have spent close to 62million pounds on trying to find a left back in last 3 years
could of solved that by signing luke shaw and he wanted to play for us and it would of saved 25 million we sold luis felipe back at a 5 million loss
we let cech go albeit to a younger guy, who wanted first team, and we couldn't gamble losing our young talent is he better than cech no but my point is we sold him to a leading rival strenthening them massively
we could of signed stones who handed in a transfer requestlast year if we paid 45 to 50 mill but chelsea saw that figure as to much
but we spent 12.9 million on 3 centre backs that will never make it at fulham let alone chelsea
lukaku and de bruyne were let go
yes for 18 million profit but that figure looks ridiculous now but i would rather they stayed yet we kept oscar in that postion farcical
the club spent over 100 yes 100 million on 4 players this window and 3 of them are sitting on the bench and 1 of them should never of come back i love luiz as a guy and will never forget 2012 but really 34 mill this window for him and 12.9 last window on rubbish
we could of had any defender in the world for that money
In 03/ 04 cfc spent 155mill on transfers i know ffp plays a part know, but why have the board become so nit picky on paying 5 million extra on a player they want when we spend millions on loanees an sshit players who are never going to be in first team.
LOANS
not even going to bother its a complete joke
YOUTH
Biggest mistake the club is making. we had 4 to 5 months, to get our players some game time last year under hiddink. and what did he do brought back mikel, what a joke as soon as we wernt going to win anything last year we should of integrated them in
Manager
i really like conte, i think he will be good long term and i think the players like and work for him. the problem is there not good enough and its the clubs fault
there transfer policy is rubbish
people at weekend saying klopp and lfc has had a year to get his players in
conte was appointed in april, that gave cfc 5 months to work with. we get kante and batman early then leave the defensive postion{was crying out} to transfer deadline day.
PERFORMANCES
we were the most feared club in england with man u for at least 5 years near impossible to beat.
you could put your house on us beating anyone out of top four at home and to go away and always do a job.
now i wouldn't bet on us beating anyone especially top 4
we always seem to struggle away from home even against lower teams
swansea bradford newcastle to name a few
This years results have not really changed since last year, just about beat west ham and we can see there form
watford we were lucky
coceded 2 against bristol at home
swansea yes ref played apart
liverpool we were shocking in first half got the goal and never looked like scoring again

first team.
players
courtois has great potential
ivanovic thanks for everything but go
cahill never good enough should be sub
zouma the only shining light in our defence hurry back
terry finished but boy thank you for everything
dave needs to be put in his right position
kante thank god he signed great player
matic good professional but is he the man in a 3 man midfield no were near creative enough
fabregas don't see why he isn't in the team most creative player we have in midfield just needs the right formation were his defence isn't exposed
oscar what have 4 managers seen in this guy work rate good but evrything else is shocking and to think jose kept himover de bruyne and mata
willian good work rate doesn't score enough goals
hazard he is the best in the world when he picks the ball up at our half way line goes past 3 4 5 even 6 players gets to the box and for some unknown reason wants to pass
to someone in a worse position than himself, he is so scared of shooting its unreal most frustrating player to watch just SHOOT
costa i love him because he is the only fighter in our whole team
we have gone from a team of 6 to 7 fighters to 1 yes he gets cards but least he is ffing trying

it doesn't seem like the club are going in a particular direction
is it youth no
big spending no
buying players for tactical reasons doesn't seem so
saving money doesn't seem so
i don't know but has roman changed since 2012 champs league win
the club doesn't seem to have that steamroll ahead of everyone else anymore,
and we are a long way behind city they get the best of everything they get what they want, when they want it, and don't mind the cost remind you of anyone its killing me watching them that was us 12 years ago up until 3 years ago
come on cfc what's happening
Is it emanelo making these decisions or a collection of muppets i would love to know
fearing for this week lads
fell free to completly annilate me if we win tommorow and saturday hope we do
Ktbffh coyb.

Could have summed up the entire first transfer paragraph with one word Jose, as he was at the center of selling our young talent. Also, I disagree that the club could have had Stones for a few more MIL because Everton, like Napoli this summer, weren't going to sell to us at any price.

I disagree with most of what you said but I won't dispute the majority at this point. However, your comment on the loan system being a joke is so far off the mark. For starters, it makes the club a lot of money as the players who turn out being surplus to requirements still leave for a small profit on many occasions. Then moving on to the successful loanees- Courtois, De Bruyne, Lukaku, Baker, Tammy (list goes on and on), they will stay to fight for a first team place or leave for a larger profit (Belgian boys) .

And as for our youth team, we have quite possibly the best academy in world football at this moment after consecutive UYL wins (joke how we're not in the competition this year despite being holders) and however many FA Youth Cup wins in the last 5 years (lost count) . Mostly British talent as well. I know people will argue these players don't get played enough but Rome wasn't built in a day and so I believe a great effort is going into trying to change that. Just look at who's in our squad this season. Aina, Chalobah, RLC and Solanke all in and around the first team squad. I know they've not had much game time so far but we're only 6 games into the season. Remember these are all proper Chelsea boys who have been with the club nearly as long as they've been alive so it would be brilliant to see them build the spine of our great club.
