Why is it every recent manager we have had everyone of them start Ivanovic at rb when clearly he his well past his sell by date in that position, he should no longer to me even be at the club how bad he has become. he is awful at every part of defending because he is not a technical good footballer to slow and clumsy.

Enough said on him now Oscar, he is another person who needs to go he has not kicked on from is first season with us in fact he has gone backwards he offers nothing to our midfield too weak and unaware of the opposition players around him, I know we had other poor performers last night but these pair are crap most games for us.

Conte has to see this now before it's to late get Dave at rb and get Alonso at lb and straighten our defence out to how it should be not players out of position and players not good enough to be in the team. Come on Antonio sort this problem out please its not hard to see is it.

Agreed. To be honest I would consider not starting Hazard and even Courtois. We need to try something different. Keep playing the same team expecting the miracle is nonsense. In his post match interview Conte said they need to work harder. That's just rubbish. If he keeps playing the same team we will finish in the same place. So, I want to see Alonso, Luiz, cahill, Azpi, Moses replace Hazard, Oscar out.

To be fair, up to now it couldve been argued that we had no better options at full back. I expect Alonso to play against Leicester on Tuesday and if he plays well hopefully we'll see him win a place in the first team.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, letting Filipe Luis leave was criminal. Baba clearly wasn't ready so can't argue with sending him out on loan. I'm excited to see how Alonso will perform and if Conte plans to use him as a starter- I suspect he does. Hazard didn't do much against Liverpool but he definitely doesn't deserve to be dropped, I'd much rather see Willian move to the bench for Moses. I'm still struggling to see how Matic is starting for us whilst Cesc is on the bench.

From a completely different viewpoint, I'm still interested in seeing whether Conte will move to a 3 at the back as I feel that now suits us with the players we've got and will do even more so when Zouma is back from injury and Christensen is back from his loan in the summer. Batshuayi has to start getting more minutes as he's played very well at every opportunity he's had.

Tbh I'm not sure playing 3 at the back even suits us. It usually requires Wingbacks that are as good offensively as they are defensively. Alonso from what I've read sounds like he's defensively solid but not particularly great going forward. Dave is certainly better going forward than Ivanovic but he isn't particularly great otherwise he'; be starting for Spain as he's certainly the best defensive RB they have.
Then the question is whether we play 5-3-2/ 3-5-2 or 5-2-3/ 3-4-3. If we play 5-3-2 we'll still likely have a midfield trio of Matic Kante and Oscar or potentially Fabregas Kante Oscar. With Costa and Batsman upfront. Which then means we have what should be our best player in Hazard on the bench.
If we play a 5-2-3, I'd imagine we'd go with Fabregas and Kante. With Hazard, Costa and Batsman up front, but that would likely see Batsman out wide in which case you might as well play Willian/ Pedro/ etc.
Either way I don't particularly see any benefit except that we may be more defensively solid. Neither formation particularly adds anything offensively.

To be honest, I actually think Matic played very well in the second half yesterday, where he finally showed some of the physicality that made him one of the world's most feared midfielders to come up against in the 14/ 15 season. I think the players that really stood out as underperformers last night were Ivanovic, Cahill, Oscar and - for once - Azpilicueta, who was caught out of position multiple times, and was unable to control his first touches (mainly because he was playing in the left side of the field, but still) . What I believe we have to do is to rattle up the defence by putting Azpi in his natural spot, and then use either Aini or Alonso on the left (I think Aini would be able to cope with playing over there because of his speed) . I would also love to see us play in a 4-3-1-2 formation with three CMs (Kante, Fabregas and Matic/ Chalobah), a COM (Eden) and Mitchy and Diego put together up front, and then try to play with more narrow and direct passes.

Simply answer is no. That team would have been streamrolled.

Also just to clarify why I said it'd get steamrolled.
F. Luis is not a RB.
Lampard, legend that he is, is 38 and not the most defensively solid and yet is the most defensive of your CM's.
Robben was still injured at the time of the match.
Juan Mata is not a CM
Neither is KDB
Lukaku requires about a dozen chances to get his first touch under control.
Schurrle is decent. Not any better than Pedro really imo.

I think the top 3 things that worried me were:

1) how tired we looked. Considering how much was at stake, we were very lethargic and were second to everything all over the field. That allowed Liverpool high possession.

2) desperate defending. Ivanovic's giving away of that free kick that led to the goal was cheap and reckless. He had done that a few times before that and wasn't even going for the ball. The Mark of a player who knows he hasn't got much else to offer.

Cahill and Ivanovic were both poor at communicating at key moments and the defensive line was all over the place which meant Kante was stretched and also had a poor game. Matic. *shakes head*

3) Final third passing - just wasn't up to scratch for majority of the game. People spraying long passes to bypass Liverpools midfield, only for them to go out for throw-ins. Etc.

We played lazy defensive counter attack football. Just like mourinho. Conte I really thought would start playing high pressing quick tempo. He needs to know fabregas needs to have a place in this team.

Hi guys. not here to gloat. But to play a high pressing, quick tempo game, your players need to be really fit.
In the last transfer window, as well as signing a few good players, Liverpool also signed Bayern Munichs Head of Fitness. Andreas Kornmayer, and Bayern Munichs Nutritionist . Mona Nemmer. Our players now look fitter than ever. My brother actually supports Chelsea and he believes the Chelsea players fitness levels are just not good enough.
Anyway. Good Luck for the future.

Hazard, Willian, Kante and Costa all have required fitness to perform a high press. With Oscar and Matic certainly capable of doing it for at least 60mins at which point they could be subbed. Fitness isn't the issue. It's simply that a high press leaves our defense exposed if we play a team capable on the ball. Although I would argue that perhaps Matic is a bit too slow over the first 5-10 yards in order to close an opponent down quickly enough.
Quite frankly I expected us to be able to play through your high press. Unfortunately Chelsea didn't turn up on the day with even the most simplest of passes going astray. Couple that will your defence playing at 150% of their skill and it meant we had a bad day at the office.

The worst I've ever seen us play. Take away the result and performance, the lack of urgency and hard work being put in was embarrassing.

Welcome to the world of 'negative nellies' da_dubliner. I said the last match was dire and got lambasted but that was, apart from our fitness, another shocker. We are still looking like a fitter but lacking any plan, team from last year. Ivanovic has picked up where he left off, Cahill proved he cannot manage the defence without Terry alongside and Matic and to an extent Azi are not the players of eighteen months ago. This is going to be a long season for all of us. Criticised heavily again but our transfer policy this year has left a lot to be desired, a £30m player gets little game time and Luiz, I rest my case. Too early to point the finger at Conte but he's not looking like a master tactician.

I don't think Swansea game was bad at all, we played well. I agree Iva and matic need to sit on the bench. You've bought a LB, use him . The club should have bit the bullet and recalled Christensen IMO. We need to drop a midfielder (magic) and put on either Bats or an AM (Cesc) . They need to just go for it now.

Alonso has to play next match
He might be good or absolutely awful but either way he's better than ivanovic.

Way too many average players in our side. Ivanovic, Cahill, Matic, Oscar and Willian are the main ones closest to the exit. We definately need a right winger who can score goals like a Griezmann or Mahrez. Alonso should definately be in instead of Ivanovic for the Arsenal game with Azpilicueta moving back to the right. And I'd be tempted to play Chalobah and Cesc instead of Matic and Oscar to offer us something different. I know Hazard was terrible but he does have quality he just needs better players around him. I'd drop Willian if we had someone better to replace him.
