I am not sure if I think rlc played well or not yet. I was buzzing that he was playing no10 for a bit because I think he can do a role there that would benefit the team. I was a bit underwhelmed considering all the hype but that may just be me being an armchair critic but I am interested to know what some of you thought about his performance and why he was taken off at the break.

He was taken off because Mourinho wanted to have more solidity in midfield, and Matic can obviously provide that.
That said, I thought he played pretty well. Was involved a couple of times in some good play and showed some smooth skills on the ball. I expect him to get more game time, but I hope it's more in a box to box role as he can then influence the game more than in a number 10 role.

Thanks Jackson for the clarity and your opinion is much appreciated.

What a player Jack Grealish is going to be - buy him Roman, please.

He looked that good to you today?

{Ed001's Note - have I been watching a different player? Only I don't get the hype with him at all.}

As usual whatever the commentators say or choose focus on tend to be the topic of discussion. Instead of just calling what's on the pitch they want to give their opinions on what challenges should be yellow cards or not and who they think is a good player with their always biased opinions. A decent player Grealish, but he did nothing special imo.

I double that Ed001, think the English press is always quick to hype up every British youngster out there, think he's decent but nothing too fantastic. Good win for us though, totally needed it.

Don't rate him one bit.

I'm with you, Ed001. Sure he's got some skills on the ball, but he never stands out to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I couldn't believe how the pundits were raving each time he gave the ball away. It seems it didn't matter that everything he was doing just gave the ball to Chelsea, so long as it was him that was doing it.}

18 Oct 2015 17:34:53
Hahaha Ed001, as ELI said it's typical of the Brits to hype every young player that gets consistent starts in the league. It's the same with Belgian commentary when Lukaku plays. Everything he does is fantastic. Apparently yesterday during the first 25 minutes or so he literally did nothing noteworthy yet they were calling him their early man of the match. It's incredible.
But yeah, Grealish is nothing special IMO. Adama should start instead of him if anything. I'm pretty sure a lot of top teams have better players in their U21 squad but they don't get to play because the senior squad is actually good while Villa's just isn't (I'm thinking of Musonda just to give an example, because I don't follow other teams' youth squads but you get the point) .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I agree with that, I still can't believe Grealish actually had to think over which nation to play for. If England are that poor he can get in the team, then it is time for the nation to give up international footie!}

18 Oct 2015 21:55:15
He should be nowhere near England's national team. Maybe the U21s but even there I'm not sure :-P.

Do you think Chelsea would be interested in vardy? Half decent player and would be good sub if you were chasing a game. Thanks ed.

Don't understand why he's took Loftus-Cheek off. I'm not watching the game from what I've seen on Twitter he played well.

{Ed018's Note - he played better than the other 2 center kids}

I think L-C substitution was tactical to sew up the game. Villa have been dreadful and I know a win is a win especially for our confidence but up front Costa looked sharp but we are not firing and personally we do not have the players. Against a poor team the defence looked sound but we still have a way to go. It provokes a lot of reaction but I do not see anything in Pedro, better first half than second and Fabregas looked better than he has recently be we can do better.

Sew up the match at the half Frensham, with a 1-0 lead and Pedro still on the pitch? Maybe he felt that Rlc wasn't tracking back enough, according to his previous criticism, but I thought he was playing hard.

Anyone else miss the days with Ancelotti when we would just blow teams out of the water?

The 8-0 vs Wigan. Good times.

{Ed018's Note - of course but let's remember that this team is not nearly as good as Carlo's 2009/2010 team}

The same players scored 7 at Everton and 4 at Swansea last season - they were flying until Mourinho reverted to his defensive default after Spurs.

Mrs. Costa I wrote about it in April on this page. I don't see Mourinho changing his tactical approach. Although he might get result at the end. Teams which play beautiful football rarely win big trophies-unfortunately.

Really happy with that side especially with Rahman and Ruben starting. It looks balanced. If anything Hazard should start over Cesc.

Oscar over cesc for me!

But nice team! Hope it's a 3 man midfield!

Back and middle I like but a little worried about the firepower up front although a better set up for Fabregas to perform. If he doesn't then there will be bigger questions marks hanging over him. Costa has to stay in the box and not drift left.

Just off the game - I can't believe that I'm not too optimistic even though we're playing a very poor Villa side. If Rahman doesn't play and we don't win, I think it will be Jose's last game. Abramovic will not put up with much more dissent from his manager.

If you think logically about it. ivanovic is the weakest link in our team at the moment and I think this could be a blessing in disguise for Rahman, but I have a feeling Zouma will play RB which I'm not too worried about, terry and Cahill in the center and Dave at LB, that's pace down either side and extra height dealing with set pieces, as for midfield maybe matic will be dropped for RLC and I'm hoping Willian keeps he's place with hazard and Oscar, Costa is back and this is the perfect game to start getting a bit of form from! Fairly confident we can deliver a champions performance today.

Left both hazard and Oscar on the bench, that's something abramovich will not like at all and neither do I. happy to see Zouma and Baba given a run out, plenty of pace at the back.
