Hey Ed,

A while since I posted on here, apparently Guarin is close to signing for Chelsea for 18 million euros.

Any truth in this?

We have to go thru our own Drogs to advance in the CL. City got Barca and Gunners got Bayern M.

Ino it's not fantasy football but if you could pick three players to sign realistically who would they be? You too ed?

Mine would be:

Zouma (CB) - A young promising centre back who can shout at the defence and get them organised.

Matic (CDM) - A powerful defensive midfielder. Matic will win aerial battles for us as well as distributing the ball quicker. Considering Mikel's physically big he has the leap of a stickleback.

Jackson Martinez (ST) - Really like the look of Martinez. He's strong, fast and can score with both feet and at 27, he's in the peak of his career.

They are my three. I haven't chose any homegrown because I think they'll leave end of season. For example I would like Shaw and Barkley to replace Cole and Lampard.

They may cost a fair bit but with hopefully the likes of Luiz, Mikel and Ba probably sold and mata even though I don't want him to leave should generate at least 60 million.

Mangala, Pogba, Lewandowski

Martinez is over rated in my opinion, especially for the fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

Realistically, I'd go for Zouma, Imbula and Lewandowski.
I prefer Zouma to Mangala because I expect his price to be significantly lower than Mangala's would be. Physically he's pretty much a beast already and will probably get better. I could definitely see him overtake Cahill as the 3rd rotating CB in the squad.
I think Imbula would be a good signing (as far as I've read at least). We could really use a physical presence in midfield who can protect the back four and is mobile. I would also expect his price not to be all too high.
Lewandowski is my pick for ST. I'm pretty sure Dortmund would agree to sell to us for a decent offer. The only issue is convincing Lewandowski to sign for us and not Bayern or whoever else wants to sign him.
My dream pick for CM would be Pogba of course but I don't think Juve would sell to us for anything but an exorbitant amount.

My prediction (more of a prophecy though) of the UCL quarter finalists: BARCA, BAYERN OUT! Last 8 would be Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Man Utd, Athletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Zenith, PSG. No GERMAN team would make it through the knockouts! There'd be an all-English clash between Manchester United and Arsenal in the quarters. Chelsea will draw Athletico Madrid, Man City vs PSG while Real will draw Zenith. Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and PSG shall make the SEMIS. The final SHALL be PSG vs CHELSEA. I know who'll win it, I'll tell u after the quarter final draw in March. And it shall come to pass.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I really cannot see Arsenal beating Bayern. Yes, City beat them, but City hammered Arsenal and I think Bayern have too much strength and depth in their side. Also with City, it depends on the fitness of messi. City could beat them, both strong sides and I did see City going all the way this season, but it just seems that Barca love this competition, and could push City hard.

LOL. Liverpool, sorry Spuds, have sacked AVB! Now that's the difference - some spend money and change managers yet they WIN throphies; others do the same yet they FAIL! Sometimes money ain't the answer.

Hi guys, haven't posted in a while though I have been closely following the page.
The topic I wanted to discuss is Chelsea under mourinho that is mainly the playing style.Much has been said about the midfield, playmakers, defenders and strikers of our team. The problem "positions" have been discussed and in no small manner, we need this, we need that etc.I think the only thing we need at this moment is a good pacy defensive midfielder. Why I am saying this is in the bigger picture buying 3 or 4 in form players does not improve a "team" especially ours which is already full of quality players.Remember it is a team. Our play so far as a team has been atrocious. There is no cohesion and let's face it it has been individual brilliance that has earned us the points, be it Hazard, Oscar, Torres, Mata, Ramires, etc, but the performances have been individual. Now, we know Jose is a great manager with an impressive track record, but some of his decisions have been questionable at best.If he is the special one his tactics should suit the team not the other way round.Look at Pep at Munich his tactical style is much different than it was at barca, he has integrated traditional wingers into a beautiful passing system making it even more potent.Mourinho, as good as he is, has been unable to do so and sticks to his tried and trusted system and we do not have the players for that system.
Our players are slick and pacy and making them play a robust system is fitting square pegs into round holes.
Our play under Benitez was way better. Also look closely at John Terry, who in my opinion has been atrocious so far.He is at the present moment doing more harm than good to the team.First of all he has no pace now as a result of which he keeps dropping back when the team is under pressure and that has creates space between the defense and midfield and as a result we are conceding goals for fun as more often than not it is a 3 on 3 or 3 on 2 situation, leaving our relatively slow defensive midfielders no chance to catch up. As a result the team becomes nervy and that leads to goals even from basic set pieces.
Like in the last game once the palace team put us under pressure spaces began to appear and the whole team lost confidence and everybody gave the ball away.It was not a question of ability but of confidence. This is a big problem and it has not been addressed. There is a reason why Benitez dropped Terry and we were playing the best football under him for the last 2 years.
Whenever Mata plays we look much more potent than when he doesn't., but he is not the preferred option as he is not defensive enough.I remember us playing brilliantly and winning with the three amigos together.De bruyne has not been given a chance, despite of being one of the most promising players around.
Our best play so far has been when we have played 4-4-2 with Torres an Ba together against Southampton, but that has not been played since as it is deemed to be too adventurous. It was a system where our team looked the most confident and potent.Look at Man city, Liverpool, Man u(last year) all play two up top and they still win and look defensively solid too.
I hope Mourinho changes his tactics and sees this else we will be struggling for fluency though out the season, unless we spend 60-70 m and bring his kind of players.

Finally someone who understands football as game. I have been posting about transformation to 442 for sometime but I don't have feeling that most of people posting on this page understand why. Even with Essien&Mikel ar cm's Chelsea will look dominant .
Biggest mistake last summer window made by Chelsea management JM, RA, Emenallo was signing Willian instead of Di Maria. If that happened Real would never sell Ozil to Arsenal.what I am afraid will get Matic and Chelsea might be so stupid to sell Torres or Demba to Liverpool which would make LFC new champions and by the way they will never sell Suarez.

Thank you unregistered poster. I have been saying the same thing but once you objectively criticize TSO they call you a plastic fan. His way of coaching is getting outdated of how to stop the other team rather than how to play to your strength.
All people say here we need a pogba, matic, vidal.except Man city no one else in the PL has such players but Liverpool (Lucas & Heridson sp) and Arsenal (Flamini & Arteta) are playing well without a pogba and Manchester United are champions with Carrick. my point is TSO needs to show how special he is in different circumstances and provide a solution with players he has. Spending 100m every season is not sustainable.
All you read here is team not suited for TSO style. what about him changing to suit his team he is TSO isn't it?
Some of you guys don't realize that when you a playing boring you never develop your fun base world over. People start supporting teams when young and these kids look at marquee player, entertainment and success in that order.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im sorry ness but that is utter rubbish. We don't play 4-4-2 because none of our strikers have performed at all this season. We played ok against Southampton with that formation but our equaliser and winner were still scored by centre backs.

I don't think we chose Willian over di Maria. In my opinion we shouldn't have bought either.

You say if we sell ba or Torres to Liverpool they will win the league. What? Firstly why would torres go back, and what gives you the impression that they are the key to winning the league?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agreed with the original poster up to when he starts on about JT.
JT has never been quick, he drops deep because he Senses danger, and has to cover the other centre half when they make a mistake. He's still the best English centre half in the country, he is exposed at the moment because of the liability Luiz and inconsistent Cahill along side him. Maybe should look at ivanovic at centre half with JT.
To say our best play so far this season was when we played 2 up top vs southampton is laughable. During that game we couldn't handle the saints pressing game so had to resort in launching the ball forward. By passing our midfield, winning headers for blokes to run on to. I'm sorry but it's not the 1980's anymore.
And I'm sure roman hasn't splashed all this cash on creative players to watch us play like that.
Just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Usually people are unaware what they have until they lose that. Liverpool is well covered in all positions except one more quality CM & solid striker. Compare how LFC plays and how CFC plays, you will absolute domination by LFC midfield. That's why LFC strikes lead as top league scorers . You can put absolutely the best striker as Chelsea lonel-y striker and he will look ridicul.like Torres, Ba or Etoo. 3 amigos as many of you call them are the main reason why Chelsea strikers look as they look. They simply play to selfish not feeding striker with at least solid pass at all. Best Chelsea scorers are Lampard&Ivanovic after Torres. It says eeverything about Chelsea midfield. you obviously don't understand why had to by DiMaria.(RTPP).
The best Chelsea games this season were games where JM played 433or442.

Agree0 Disagree0

Best chelsea scorers are lampard and ivanovic? Is that why hazard and Oscar are our top scorers? Ivanovic has what, 1 goal this season?
