Good day Ed, not really Chelsea related but Man City. What happens if City make the top 4 but are banned to compete in the UCL next season? Who replaces them or will the EPL be allowed only 3 teams for the season?
Thanks
Sorry I posted this on European page by mistake.

I read this earlier (in a story about City, I wasn't using the UEFA rulebook for night time reading) .

Article 4.08 of the UEFA rulebook states: “A club which is not admitted to the competition is replaced by the next best-placed club in the top domestic championship of the same association, provided the new club fulfils the admission criteria. ”.

5th place will get the CL spot if City finish within the top 4 and remain banned from the competition. However there is also potential talk about a points reduction in the PL from the FA which could see city miss out of the top4 regardless.

Maybe 5th place gets champions league football now too. im sure CAS will reduce it but even 1 year will do damage?

Huge news for us. Wasn't too confident that we'd get top 4 but after this news if it's true that top 5 gets CL we have a great chance. Next two games are massive, get through both with at least 4 points with Ruben coming back we're in a great position.

If I’m correct, City will understandably go through all the appeals possible and may well end up being able to play in next seasons Champions League.

If the ban comes in the following season it won’t effect us because we will be Champions again!

TomB, not if the huge points deduction comes into play.

RJ28P, my guess is our authorities will wait until due process is finalised.

Also, if a two season ban is upheld it wouldn’t surprise me if they deducted points in the first season of the ban and thereby making it a gesture deduction.

Anyway, we are all guessing to a certain extent. Let’s just wait and see what City, Cas and probably the Swiss Supreme Court decide.

Wow, for Man City and champ league, our transfer ban was bad but this could be like rats and sinking ship.

I have my doubts there ship will sink Matt.

My guess is, they will probably be in next seasons Champions League as the appeal process may well go on for some while.

They could survive 1 season out pretty fine, 2 on the other hand would be huge.

I know it's unrealistic but with Alexander Nubel joining Bayern in the summer is it worth a cheeky bid to try and tempt Manuel Neuer here? He's still a quality keeper and he might not like getting rotated. He's 34 and a fantastic all round keeper and his leadership is exactly what we're lacking. Obviously chance are slim but he's the profile I'd go after.
