Alright lads just a bit of a question answer thing and for you ed?
If Mikel leaves next summer we could do with an upgrade on him for the big games in terms of another good holding midfielder next to Matic who would you sign?
These are just the names of the top of my head:
• Khedira - may be able to sign him on a pre contract. Seems to be getting injury prone though.
• Schneiderlin - a name I mentioned the other day. PL proven a quality holding midfielder. Downside is he would not be cheap for a backup midfielder and not proven at top level.
• Imbula - Like the look of this kid very Yaya Toure like. Him being left footed as well as Matic as a holding two might work against them.
• Lars Bender - not a big fan of Bender but just another name.
• Javi Martinez - Quality player. Would bayern sell? Seems injury prone too.
• Wanyama - Good player. Not Chelsea quality IMO though, I prefer Schneiderlin.
• Ake - we could give Ake more game time. Thing is if Matic gets injured and we have a big game could him and Fabregas become too lightweight?
If anyone can name anyone else who they think would be their choice including Ed then please do so.
Cheers guys
Add a name? Well you must've known someone would mention him, surely you know which French midfielder, with funny hair, I'm talking about :)
Obviously Martinez would be godlike, but we won't get him. That just won't happen.
Imbula I've never seen play, so can't comment on him.
Hopefully Ake can get more regular minutes as I really like what I've seen from him up till now. IMO he's got the potential to be very decent back up.
Schneiderlin is a very good player and he's homegrown, so he'd be excellent as well. However I don't think I've seen Chelsea mentioned as an interested club so he's unlikely I guess.

Luiz Gustavo another name I meant to add to the list

Haha we'd all want Pogba just can't see it happening.

How about we give our youth a chance? Chalobah? Ake? Baker? RLC? All worth a place on the bench instead of Mikel. Our best pairing is Matic and Fabregas so any 'big name' won't accept a place on the bench. Pogba is different class and would walk into the team with Fabregas moving forward but unlikely to happen.

Just watching Imbula now on bt sport 2. Marseille away at Monaco big game. He's been very impressive.
Khedira or Schneiderlin. We have RLC already.

I've been thinking about it for a little while but I wouldn't mind seeing Nathaniel Chalobah get developed into that role. He's got the size, he's defensive by nature, and he's chelsea through and through. The crazy thing is almost two years ago he was starring for Watford. I don't want to write him off either at all because for all that is being made of RLC, Chalobah is only a little over 1 year older. In all fairness we might only play with a defensive mid next to matic against a maximum of 3-5 teams so I'm not sure how much I would invest in that.
Pogba or no one for me. We have Ake, Van Ginkel, pascalic, Baker, RLC so yeah if not Pogba no one. No one.
Same goes for cb position if not Varina no one we have great young cb's .
Just my opinion.
If Pogba simply isn't available then I would promote youth.

I understand promoting youth is the answer but we seen against newcastle what happened without Matic. If we were in a champions league semi final say against Madrid or Bayern and Matic was injured what would happen?
Exactly.

I agree with Eli's statement. There are a handful of players that barring a major unforeseen event will be one of if not the best payer at their position in the world. If a player doesn't meet that criteria then we shouldn't be buying them. We have one of if not the best academies in the world and its time for it to pay dividends to us.
I have a feeling that Khedira is already wrapped up on a free. But I would add Alex Song who's doing wonders on loan at the Boleyn.
Mrs Costa you might be right about Khedira. Also, absolutely agree about Song.
