Remember when we thought Atletico Madrid would turn us over at their home ground? That went well didn’t it?

Atletico Madrid away = remembered by glass half full types;
Roma away = remembered by glass half empty types.

That same Atletico Madrid then went to Qarabaq and lost so put our win in perspective and we hardly set the world alight afterwards.

Same way of thinking by Chelsea fans Gianfranco Gola. We raise our games when we play teams like this. I remember 2012 mate when we were doomed nearly every game for the knockout period. Napoli, Barcelona, Benfica. And what happened.?

12 Jan 2018 15:26:06
Yeah that same Madrid C1955. Still beat them and not just beat them. We played them off the park.

That team had heart spirit and fight not to mention a never say die attitude
Cech Terry Ivanovich cole Bertrand luiz cahill lamps Ramirez essien merieles Torres sturridge and drogba

Tibo Christensen Moses Alonso Kennedy azpi cahill drinkwater kante fabregas bakayoko hazard morata batshuayi

I know what squad my money would be on
The only players that would get in 2011/ 12 team hazard and maybe azpi
If they get a good run fantastic
This half glass half full is stupid
There is optimist's and realists I know what side I'm on
In 2011/ 2012 I was still a realist as that team had the attributes to win no matter the circumstances play good football or win ugly.

Plus they had capabilities to adapt there formation to attack certain teams or defend against certain teams this new crop of players I don't believe have that in them
There was about six players at least who would of gone to the end of the earth to win for the club now days I'd say maybe 1 azpi that's about it
Sorry for the long post just my view on things (realist) ktbffh.

Is that why we finished 5th that season and if we didn’t win the champions league we wouldn’t have been in it the following? Again with all those players you mentioned. Also The following season did we not go out the champions league in the group stage - again with those players mentioned. Plus Hazard! Did we not sack a manager half way through that 2011/ 12 season? Also again the following in AVB and RDM? Let’s be honest, anything can happen and on our day we can beat anyone. I like to go into every game confident. It’s not like we go out to lose or draw do we? I’m sure Conte has a got a plan and it seemed to me anyway that we’d rather be chasing the CL rather then the Prem this year.

CFCAdam: Clearly everyone is frustrated with a whole range of things, manager leaving, Morata off form, team not scoring and everything is being thrown into comments but our win over AM was playing them off the park because they were so bad and we went downhill after that.

They were so bad? Really?!? Wow. I thought we made them look mediocre because of the way we played. It’s amazing how people see a match very differently. I think we’ll agree to disagree. 😊.

We played well against A. Madrid and deserved our win from the last kick of the game. However, that match is history. Since then we have not been able to negotiate Roma which is a massive concern.

Got a question regarding transfer policy, one of the eds stated something along lines of there's no decision on on conte's future as he may wish to move on so they have back up plans and shortlist's constantly being updated. does this affect or slow down who we bring in. conte likes 352/ 343 formations so he would identify targets to fit that formation and those roles, would the club hold back on certain players until either conte committed longer term or they knew who his replacement was. Or in fact have the club got there own targets who they will expect the coach / manager to integrate into system .,

The club generally buy the players with input from Conte (the head coach) . Personally if there is any reticence by the board it would likely be over defensive reinforcements imo. Only because the next coach may wish to play a back 4 which would mean we’d have too many CB’s or any wingbacks we buy might not be great fullbacks etc. Whereas attacking players will generally fit most formations, it would just be whether their qualities/ skills suit the tactics of potential coaches.

Conte likes 424 also, but don't pay too much attention to formations. Players have roles more than positions.

Chelsea will be back firing in about a months time, quality depth and additions are needed.

An interesting read which echoes a lot of My thoughts on Chelsea FC and the Direction it should be taking in this current climate.

Thanks for that blue nose very good read
What I don't get is how can city generate more than us financially surely they are getting money pumped in
Why can't we do it.

Hey Gianfranco, glad You enjoyed the article.

I don't think there is any doubt that Man City are having plenty of money pumped in, in My opinion in the form of sponsors etc. outside of market value.

I think the reason that Chelsea don't do that anymore is simply because Roman no longer wants to plough huge amounts into the Club from His own personal fortune and also the Club are far stronger financially than when He purchased the Club from Uncle Ken.

Clubs such as United, Bayern, Barcelona and Real have huge revenue in comparison to Chelsea and also the Noveau Riche sides City and PSG have far deeper pockets than even Roman. He can't be expected to keep competing with those Clubs from His own personal wealth imo.

I think the Club need to keep growing the income streams at the Club in order to remain competitive and I assume they are always trying to achieve that.

It is frustrating seeing certain Clubs close deals quickly and seemingly pay whatever is required but prices have been spiralling out of control and I don't think it's sustainable. We as a Club need to be smarter with how We conduct Our business.

Totally agree blue nose
To be honest I don't fully grasp ffp
My point was surely the likes of city and psg are spending more than they earn as a club I didn't think that was allowed
I don't think ffp is fair anyway it's morally right yes but it's just a mechanism for the big clubs to stay big and keep it that way.

I totally agree with Your last sentence, it's just a way of maintaining the Status Quo as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not against financial fair play as such but there has to be a better, fairer way of achieving it.

Yep I don't invisage Conte being there next year so I can't see a big spending spree not knowing who will coach them next season.

I agree and with the Conte comment. He does not seem happy and is not the same man at press conferences as he was last year. I feel his leaving is going to impact any decent player joining when they don't know who they might be playing under. To me there is something wrong at the club, players look to play for Manchester United or Manchester City, seldom recently have we had anyone that has 'wanted' to play for Chelsea and forced the issue.

Batman will go weather or not on loan or sold he has to if he wants to get in the World Cup squad he requires more playing time my opinion he’s just not cut it for us and best to move saying that not had to many chances to prove it.

{Ed033's Note - Does it all depend on whether the weather is nice?
