Hey guys/ eds if you want to join in, just wondering if Chelsea could sign a player in any ONE position this summer and no one else (other than Batshuayi obviously) which position would you look to strengthen?

Personally it's a massive toss-up between a few but I'd say a centre back probably just about takes precedence. Koulibaly hopefully as the one (since Bonnuci doesn't want to go anyhere by Ed002's information) .
What do you guys think?

Kante is the signing this squad of players needs the most.

Bonucci for me especially in a back three, experienced, knows Conte well and is fantastic on the ball.

Bonucci and Kante. Sorry cannot decide between the two!

Hi ed,

As you said Chelsea have had a bid rejected for morata I was just wondering whether Real Madrid bought him back beause he's part of future plans for the team or whether it was purely to sell him on at a profit. Do you know if the bid was rejected because the transfer fee was too low or because the player is not for sale?

Thanks.

Been more impressed by Kante and Sissokho than Pogba all tournament. Matuidi has been excellent.

Thought Matudi is bang average as is Pogba. This whole tournament has been awful to be honest. The new format is crap. Really hate international football.

Very average tournament and many players exposed as over hyped and over priced, sadly part of football nowadays. Portugal won the final on the back of teamwork and confidence in each other but had many moderate players which makes you wonder just what is going wrong with England. My standouts all played a similar role, Boateng, Bonucci and Pepe, all marshalled their defence and cleared up.

Eh, Kante hardly played, I thought Matuidi was distinctly average, and Pogba! I've said it before: Pogba - £100m! £350,000 a week! I just don't get it!

I posted the same question this morning but I can't see it on the page, apologies if it comes through twice.

Just a quick one, given we've had a presumably significant bid for morata rejected, does this mean the player is not for sale or was the offer merely not large enough?

Thanks.

Who do you guys think will leave this window?

I think from last seasons first team squad, possibly Pedro, Oscar, Remy and Mikel.

With the change to formation and in comings, Hazzard, Cesc and RLC will take on the cam role. Hopefully Kante, Cesc and Matic can take up the 2 CM/ CDM positions. Will the edition of a new striker it would leave us with 3 CF plus Traore as our 2 up front. I think our defence is sorted for WB's as the current crop seem to be better suited to that role. It just leaves a new CB to be acquired. I feel a swap of Cahill plus some wedge for Stones. Would be good business. Like what has been said about Ivan, I think he is potentially in his last season. But playing in a back 3 May just suit him, compared to forcing him to play RB.
Lastly, how would folks feel if we was to test Swansea's resolve over Williams? I know he is 32, but if we need a new leader, he could be a good stop cap.
Thanks for reading. And thanks to the Eds for all their hard work 👍.

Cuadrado, maybe Mikel, maybe Pedro and maybe Oscar.

We need someone good on the ball in a back three if that's the way Conte intends to go so it's got to be either Koulibaly or the unlikely Bonucci.

Kante's is everyone's choice I think for centre midfield were desperately lacking pace there and solidity and he can provide that. I got criticised on here before for saying I don't rate Cesc but I don't care yes he has a fantastic passing ability but he's way too slow and when his passing a not on form it's like playing with ten men. I've never been Oscar's biggest fan but I think he could do well for Conte in a two man midfield as he has a great work rate and can tackle. If we're going 3-4-1-2 I'd be happy to see either of the two central midfield positions taken by either Kante, Matic, RLC and Oscar.

In terms of outgoings mine would be:

Ivanovic. Mikel, Moses, Marin, Van Ginkel, Fabregas (probably get slaughtered just my own personal opinion), Cuadrado, Salah, Bamford, Remy.

Conte plays with only one CDM and 2 CMs, so it's not 3412 but 3142 with 6 players pressing high opposition.

I hope conte uses the formation that he's used with Italy and juve. Sadly in a 3 at the back I don't see a place for JT. Ivanovic and zouma plus a new signing, Cahill for me had a poor euros and a poor season. I don't think I would be too bothered if matic stayed or left the club. Oscar has promised so much, yet delivered so little, so he would be one I would look to sell. Cesc is a tricky one as he is a great player but only suits certain formations. He's not going to be box to box, but I think contes way of playing will suit him. So my outs would be: Oscar, Moses, Marin, remy, van ginkel, cuadrado and possibly matic.
Ins: morata, perisic, kante and one of ( koulibaly, varane, stones)

So Real Madrid have pulled out of deal for Pogba and now turning their attention to Gomes and Kante,

Kante won't go to Real Madrid, he will want to be undisputed first choice.

10 Jul 2016 16:47:39
Hmm not so sure. I'm sure playing for Real and having Zidane as manager is a massive pull towards the player.

Don't think Kante's enough of a galactico to sign for Madrid which I hope because I want him at Chelse.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2016 17:17:39
They will go for Gomes. Gomes/ pogba are a different type to Kante. I wouldn't put pogba or gomes as an out and out def mid. I think Madrid are looking for more an att/ centre mid rather then a def mid.

I hope Chelsea can sign kante. The guy is class at what he does, he is exactly what our team needs. He would be more important to our team than any other player we have been linked with.

If a player chooses Everton over Chelsea then am glad we didn't get him because must have mental problems.

10 Jul 2016 12:53:01
Have you forgotten Robinho chosen then perenial relegation strugglers man city over us? It's about the proposition put forward to the player by either club. And of course the money!

Agree0 Disagree1

10 Jul 2016 13:22:06
Agree with Pinky. Even if Everton try to match us and both clubs agree on a deal with Napoli, I feel confident in the player choosing Chelsea over Everton. Especially since he has to fancy his chances competing with Terry and Cahill for a spot.

10 Jul 2016 13:44:42
Everton are a massive team but have been out of the picture for many years, so maybe young overseas players will not know anything about them. Hopefully this would work in our favour. There again money talks and players may be convinced by the Everton "plan". We shall see.

Agree0 Disagree1

10 Jul 2016 14:31:58
If everything is match and it come to a straight shoot out he surely chooses Chelsea! London is a big pull and the club itself is huge. Yes Everton is big but not the class of Chelsea. Choosing Everton will show a lack of mental strength because he knows he will walk into the team and not test himself against top top players! An individual should always test themselves against the best to become the best.

Maybe Everton outbidding us for koulibaly might be a good thing we might turn back to Marquinhos whi I feel is miles better to be honest altough I haven't seen anything of this koulibaly chap imagine our summer of buisness finishing with batshuayi Morata Marquinhos/ koulibaly and Kante it would be a huge huge summer I also wonder if cuadrado can play a big part for us under control the jury is out.

Isn't Cuadrado off to Juve? Candreva wouldn't be a bad signing are decent price.

50 million for a striker in Morata who didn't even a proven goalscorer is a joke just pay an extra 30 and activate Griezmann's release clause.

Agree2 Disagree2

10 Jul 2016 14:17:47
I don't think it's that easy obviously griezman doesn't want to leave Madrid I don't see why he would at the moment anyway especially for us as der miles ahead of us at the moment . I do agree about Morata fee been ridiculous but it's the market Liverpool payed 35 million for mane how many goals did he score last season an he seems to have discipline issues aswell Koeman dropped him last season for a period if I'm correct the market is gone bananas . mourinho and pep are going to blow us all out of the water by the looks of it united now only team bidding for pogba with real pulling out, let's hope conte can pull us back were we belong I'm going to dispise mourinho in the United dug out.

How can you say Marquinhos is miles better than a player you openly admit to not having seen?!

So many rumours/ reports coming out now about Kante, Morata and Koulibaly.

Morata - we've agreed personal terms but our offer has been rejected by Madrid.

Kante - Sven Goran Erikksons Chinese team have apparently offered a stupid amount to sign him.

Koulibaly - both Everton and Arsenal have now joined the race, with Everton offering €10m more then us.

Surely a load of rubbish Ed002?

Looking at the Everton page it would seem that the press reports of them out bidding us for/ being interested in Koulibaly aren't without truth. Interesting, and a little worrying!

Erm - Marquinos anyone?

If Napoli have already accepted our offer as has been suggested, then it is up to Koulibaly himself to decide and I am confident he would pick us. If not, plenty of alternatives do exist.
