TomB, it looks like you are our Captain America on the site: Fearless, never backs down and can fight all day. Your optimism is really infectious (and that's very good) .

Haha Obinna, this is the time of year when even Spurs, Arsenal or West Ham Supporters can dream. Or, in there case totally deluded.

25 Jun 2019 15:10:10
Not that I want to trample all over your dreams Tom but (spoiler warning - I'm going to) I don't see us challenging for the title this season.

I think a healthy dose of reality is going to be needed, both on the terraces and in the boardroom. It'll be a massive suprise if 2019/ 20 is anything but a tough, hard slog of a season.

Top six, whilst challenging for the top four throughout, would be a decent start to a rebuilding project as far as the league is concerned. I don't expect United, Spurs or Arsenal to be much better than us but top six will be tight again. Lampard shouldn't have the sack hanging over him if we miss out on top four in year 1. Getting to the knockout stages of the Champions League and doing well in one of the other cups would also be good.

Real progress this season will see Hudson-Odoi becoming a focal point of the attack and signing a new contract. Loftus-Cheek becoming a. consistenr performer in midfield whilst Abraham, James and Mount break into the first team.

I'd imagine a lot will want silverware in the cabinet more than youth team players on the pitch. But in the long run there's no reason we can't have both. It might just mean a season or two of them developing to the required level. It's time for the machine that is the Chelsea Youth system.

All opinions should be valued and evaluated but my dreams will remain intact, at least until October!

It's good to have a balance between optimism and reality. I hope we do really well this season.

It's not beyond a miracle that we do really well this season given that the Lampard appointment will boost the playing squad and more importantly the fans. If we can get some momentum going then who knows what can happen. We still have a very good squad and who knows we may have a few young gems I. e. mount, ampadu etc who perform fantastically. Also Lampard may have a positive influence on Barkley. 1 thing for sure without Hazard we will see a unit come out to play every weekend and not look for the big man in every game.

However, there is always the thought that Lampard is still a rookie. Petr Cech who will be the link with the playing staff and board is inexperienced and will he be able to put aside friendship . I hope so.

I am more inclined to believe that we will have a great season.

Frank Lampard to Chelsea confirmed! He will sign a deal until 2022!

Although I would love Lampard as the Chelsea manager I can't help thinking john Terry will become a better manager. There wasn't a better leader in the country than when Terry was captain and I'm pretty sure a lot of wins we had were down to him in the dressing room. Rumour now is that Terry will be next derby manager.

To be honest I would risk the ban and settle for a top 6 finish if he could really get these youth players in.

It's a huge gamble with Frank which I think it is worth taking. However I hope it works because I'm sure the fans will revolt if it goes awry regardless of his legendary status.
I would wish him all the best and support him once he is appointed.
No matter whatever you think, I would not want us to serve the ban right away unless it's impossible to overturn.

Steve Holland needed, hopefully frank has the sense to invite on board,

Agree2 0Disagree

17 Jun 2019 14:32:12
Getting Steve Holland back would be wonderful, but seems highly unlikely that he would agree to come back as a number 2 to Frank. Yet we could certainly do with some personnel with more managerial experience in the dug out I'd think.

Along with all others, massively hope that if Frank is our new manager he can find - and be given the time to find - success in this. We all know how bright he is, and how committed to CFC, and I still have a couple of his number 8 shirts! But he would be taking over at an immensely challenging time and with so little experience that it is hard not to be a tad worried for the immediate future. Leave aside feeling pretty exhausted by seemingly never ending managerial musical chairs (had wanted both Conte and Sarri to stay longer) .

Had hoped Lamps would be our manager in about five years time ie after he'd really learnt more of the trade, built up his own confidence/ cv OR if manager now, at least have a more grizzled old managerial pro alongside to help. Anyway, let's hope for the best!

While I can understand the worries from some of our supporters, I’m really excited about Super Frank ruling the roost. I’ve always thought he was tailored made for the job and I’m not too worried (but I will eat my hat if I’m wrong) because:

A) Now is Frank’s time to get the job.
Something that hasn’t really been considered in the ‘time’ equation is the level that Frank is cutting his teeth at. While I agree it’d be great if he was 3/ 4 years in theoretically, I don’t think after 3 or 4 years he’d even be considered. We’ve struck gold in the fact he is now! As much as it could go poorly, it could go well! We may have our Ferguson. Football is so reliant on players and even without the loan players they had last season Derby would really struggle. They’ve let a whole host of players go this summer and the next years hypothetically could potentially harm Franks credentials rather than aid them. I can understand why our fans are worried for the same reason but as any follower of our youth team will tell you - you shouldn’t be. Transfer ban or no transfer ban the club has been dialling back big transfer expenditure for a while now, I’d argue the last few big signings have been so big because of the proportionate inflation in the market and not because of the clubs dependence on the player I. e Kepa, Morata, Pulisic.

B) It’s been said time and time again but Jody Morris is so key. His relationship with the players in the academy is invaluable and while “knowing the club” isn’t perhaps the best meritocracy for choosing a management team; the fact of the matter is he knows it just about as well as you can.

Agree2 0Disagree

19 Jun 2019 11:31:31
People didn’t want Sarri as he hadn’t won anything and hadn’t been managing st the very top for very long and were worried about his experience. if his name wasn’t frank lampard and was any other manager with a years managing and not winning anything they’d be uproar .

Agree0 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 15:32:55
Read that Chelsea wouldn't release Sarri until a manger is in place at chelsea, so Ed's does that mean frank is all but done or is there a twist to this managerial positions at chelsea,

{Ed001's Note - Chelsea were always willing to let Sarri go if he wanted to go, just like they do with players. They don't hold staff to ransom. It has been a policy since Roman took over that they only want those who are happy to be there.}

Believable1 0Unbelievable

16 Jun 2019 15:38:12
Makes sense, there still an shortlist / interview stage or is frank the one now,

{Ed001's Note - as far as I know, which is not from the Chelsea side so it could be wrong, Frank is the chosen man. Certainly Derby are worried about losing him.}

Agree0 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 15:45:54
And also. Any sign of chelsea wanting the ban frozen to add anyone or they accepted and will go ahead with current players plus young loanees integrated into squad.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what's happening there, it is between directors and lawyers, everything in the press is pure speculation. I would assume it comes down to whether or not Chelsea feel they will win. It is difficult to tell for sure.}

Agree0 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 15:51:35
Cheers ed for responses, hopefully additions can be made. Think frank will need some match winners, When Sarris tactics and plan A wasn’t working he had hazard to get us over the line, frank won’t have that so I think he will beee some help,

{Ed001's Note - it might help to have the players not rely on one player so much though. Liverpool were the same with Coutinho but the team lifted so much once he left and they stopped looking to him it was much better.}

Agree2 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 16:18:00
Agree but Liverpool had a CF who does the dirty work in pressing and dropping and links play who also scores and mane and salah either side, we have Giroud and an aging Willian / Pedro, and hoping Pulisic can hit the ground running and adding to that a manager who we don’t know how he will get on just the face the fans will back him even when / if things aren’t going well, it’s almost as if we’re starting the season expecting it to be poor but ktrying to keep fans onside,

{Ed001's Note - it was more that the players stopped looking to others than it is was about who was there mate. It was the same when Gerrard left too, the team actually played better as a team.}

Agree1 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 16:19:26
Plus Liverpool invested the coutinho money in VVD and Allison which ultimately made the difference in previous seasons, we can’t with hazard money which is a double blow.

{Ed001's Note - Allison only came in for last season, Coutinho effectively left the season before due to his feigning injury and playing up for most of the first half of the season before leaving in Jan. Honestly it did help bringing in van Dijk but you have 40 players (or however many it is) to come back from loan that could have a similar effect. Pulisic is a major talent too, he could be just as influential in time as Hazard.}

Agree1 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 16:35:04
Really looking forward to seeing Pulisic, his direct a work horse,

Agree1 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 17:20:12
Matt, it is true Liverpool did invest in a keeper and centre half but it could be argued that we have already made those investments in the last two windows.

Also, if some of our brighter loan players are in the squad they have a chance to impress the new manager in training and then matches.

Agree2 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 17:50:30
Those positions were examples, we need a few additions but ultimately we need a world class striker that we could again be without, and same for a world class midfielder who can contribute to goals, or a left back who doesn’t wish he was a winger, Liverpool lost a player and invested in were they needed to, we don’t have that luxury, Zouma / James etc may help with some depth but we lack goals,

Agree0 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 18:05:08
I agree about the lack of a goal scorer but it’s looks to me as if we will have Giroud, Tammy and Michy as our choices.

We will win the Premiership easy, NO worries!

Agree0 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 18:18:52
Obviously we will win it but it’s going to be a problem scraping 1-0’s with no goals, Giroud is a back up, Michy gets loaned out and doesn’t even become a guaranteed starter anywhere, and Tammy is ok I’m championship. let’s be very clear there’s a bit of a difference.

Agree0 0Disagree

16 Jun 2019 18:57:47
This is the time of the year when I hope every Chelsea supporter, like you and me Matt, truly believe we win next seasons Premiership.

I also believe, we have to except that it’s unlikely we will ask for the ban to be postponed. If we do that, we are left with opportunities for some of our better loan players being given a chance to stake a claim for first team football.

I think adding them to our current squad and with a better work ethic from every player we will win the Premiership comfortably.

20 Jun 2019 08:40:07
As above Ed's really appreciate your replies/ input. Just a thought and looking for peoples and Ed's opinions. We had IMO the beast of a centre forward, perfectly suited to the EPL in Diego, apparantly not wanted by Athelico now. Yes, he may be a little delicate off the field, and on field wasn't what Conte obviously wanted, however I still think he's the centre forward we need back.
If appointed I think Lampard would get the very best out of him.
Straight swap for Morata, couldn't be happier.
As for the potential appt of Frank, yes, I agree with some posters out there, possibly a year or two too soon, however, what people don't take into account is Lampards high intelligence and the respect he would have from current players, many of which have played alongside him.
Hopefully if appointed he gets time (at Chelsea, yeah right lol) to create a culture within the club rather than a "win everything or your'e gone" attitude that our more recent "fans" seem to buy into.
I welcome yor comments.

{Ed001's Note - I think you would not recognise the Costa of now. Last time I saw him he had piled on the pounds and was back to being the 'not giving a toss' Costa. Someone like him at his best, perfect, but he is never going to be at his best for more than a couple of months at a time.}

Good luck to him! Hopefully we can get lampard now. Iv wanted him since last season, to the people that say he shouldn’t be our manager he’s a legend and should stay that way, what a load of old cobblers! People who wouldn’t class him as a legend if he failed as the manger should go back to support Utd! We have all been crying out for youth to be giving a chance lampard and Jody Morris would 100% do that. For the first time in years they wouldn’t be to much pressure on the manger with our transfer ban, lampard is the only man I would want managing us, I think he’s earned a shot.

Agree2 0Disagree

14 Jun 2019 10:19:27
I, like you, would like us to appoint Lamps if possible, I'd like us to give him time to work with the team and do his job, within reason, regardless of results, clearly if we lose all of our games we may need to rethink. One point is though that we all seem to be saying that appointing Lamps and Jody will mean we give youth a chance. is that guaranteed? If he does come in I don't see him suddenly throwing in 6 or 7 youngsters. Regardless of who takes over, due to the ban, we will need to integrate more of youth/ fringe players. I guess what I'm trying to say is let's just get behind whoever the next manager is and whatever team he picks, everyone's an expert and could do a better job, having a different opinion is everyone's right, abusing a manager or player is never acceptable. Let's get behind whoever, whenever. Come on the Chels.

14 Jun 2019 16:37:12
Spizzy, I don’t think there should be any guarantees.

My guess is we will have fresh players (CHO, RLC, Rudi and James) ready to play towards the end of September. They have to win their place back in the team by impressing in training and when given a chance there performances.

We will win the League comfortably!

Moussa Dembélé or Seb Haller would be good choices probably. We've always done well with a strong forward to hold up the ball and occupy the CBs. Haller would fit that role perfectly.

Moussa Dembélé is more all around but I've read he's really good with his back to goal play as well. I'd take either in a heartbeat.

It’ll be interesting if you’re right Matt. I’d immediatly go in for Nicolas Pepe, an Ivorian from Lille is the best of both worlds 😉.

That's not what Marcotti said. It's on the podcast / TV Show.

He assumes that chelsea are hoping for a ban, and he offers an arguement. But he does not say that Chelsea have appealed.

I’d take Moussa, we wanted him from Fulham before Celtic, quick natural finisher, young too, Moussa Haller Giroud would offer is everything and selling morata Michy Abraham would surely make it cost affective?

09 Jun 2019 16:36:24
Oh apologies, saw a quote on social media, I presumed it’d been a snippet but didn’t realise it was wrong, and yeah nicolas Pepe should be no1 target. Can take on and runs in behind and cuts in from left onto right foot. makes sense, a player like Moussa who’d attack 6 yard box be good too.
