Did we just see a worse performance than last year at the ethiad?
It’s the same story as this time last season:
Players not playing for the manager/shirt, manager has a stubbornness not mixing tactics and we’ll end up starting next season with a new manager to start the process all over! Something has to curb this cycle. Fruitful as the last decade has been I feel that it has hinged on players that had true feelings for Chelsea and that got us over the line time again.
This really is a massive month for our club.

Only a lunatic does the same thing over and over again- and expects a different result. We have been sacking and changing managers; yet we still find ourselves in this position, it's time for the club to change these set of players cos a lot of them are way passed their good years.
I think it's completely useless to keep talking cos the way I see it the board wants to do what they want to do and the coach (Sarri) wants to do what he wants to do.
Just pause for a moment and ask ourselves- which of our first team players can actually command a starting shirt in the present Mancity, Liverpool or Tottenham's first team; then maybe we might begin to understand.

{Ed0333's Note - hazard?

2.) 12 Feb 2019 08:20:00
Kante would also walk into every single team in the world, in my opinion.

3.) 12 Feb 2019 08:41:28
A handful I guess? Maybe Hazard and Kante.

4.) 12 Feb 2019 10:29:14
Then why do we think that we should be better? The earlier the club does a reality check- the better for every one. They should stop blaming good coaches.

5.) 12 Feb 2019 10:33:23
With the way Chelsea is wired at the moment, even if Guardiola, Zidane or Klopp becomes our coach, I don't think they will do better.

6.) 12 Feb 2019 20:41:28
The problem with Sarri is his reliance on ageing and underperforming players. CHO for Willian/ Pedro, Ampadu for Jorghino, Christensen for Luiz, Emerson for Alonso, even (next season) Reece James for Azpilicueta. If Tammy wasn't already one of our players, we'd be handing Villa £30million for him. The young lads might make mistakes, but give them some Premiership experience (and by that, I mean a good run - not coming on as a 70th minute sub), and we'll have a heck of a team next year. And for goodness sake, don't come out with 'they're not Sarri's type of players' - is Sarri an English Premiership type of manager?

7.) 12 Feb 2019 23:11:21
Dempsey; you are right on that. That's my biggest concern with Sarri too (liking the over aged players a lot and sticking with underperforming players) . I really like his brand of football though and one has got to give him credit for the change that he has achieved with Chelsea in just a small period of time.

In hindsight it would have been refreshing to see Conte switch formations and tactics! Perhaps using Fabregas deeper like Pirlo at Juventus with Kante and Baka higher up the pitch. Considering how teams pressed us in the league this season.

Honestly pezzzo i don't think it would've matterd either way. Fab has been one of the many players in this squad that's underperformed throughout the entire season. He's played in that deep role a couple of times in the 352 but just hasn't looked effective at all. Personally i don't think he has the legs anymore to play in the prem. It's not all his fault though, our system doesn't suit him in the slightest and Conte's stubbornness to change things up to help him and the team hasn't helped either.

2.) 14 May 2018 12:43:53
My 15 year old arthritic golden retriever moves quicker than Fabregas! The only time that Fab has been effective is when the opposition has stood off him and allowed him to pick a pass but this only happens against very poor teams - I cannot believe that Drinkwater, Ampadu, Kyle Scott, or RLC would have been less effective - Fabregas (and Conte) have to be moved on this summer.

Have not posted in years but still frequently read posts. Just wanted to say, the Chelsea fans were in good voice at old trafford.
Utd are nothing special so have we found our current level?

From watching on TV I could hear our fans but did you get to Old Trafford yourself?

I have thought that we were always going to have a rocky season given wholesale change in squad plus its youthfulness and lack in many of any previous EPL experience. But we have had yet again many injuries and crucially to our main goal hope/ threat in Nkunku. Our bench looked very thin last night.

What I have hoped is that though we were unlikely to get much above 20 points before Christmas we would be showing improvement by now and get far more consistent in second half of season. We have shown flashes of promise followed by what seems to be backward steps. and last night plus game v Newcastle worrying re progress which isn't just about points but about getting consistent energy, focus and gradually upwards effectiveness. I still hope for this and wait to see what will happen when Poch has full squad to pick from. But he does need to work out his best 11 and as a matter of urgency get the defence sorted.

2.) 07 Dec 2023 11:52:26
JBS, attitude, determination and work rate don’t require a fully fit squad or a settled first 11. Just look how Newcastle work as a team with all there injuries/.

3.) 07 Dec 2023 12:23:57
Very true Tom and that is what has been very worrying about Newcastle and Man United games.

4.) 07 Dec 2023 13:19:52
Tom

Saudixastle are still full of highly experienced players yo choose from, our squad are young and relatively inexperienced.

5.) 07 Dec 2023 13:53:10
JBS, our midfield totally bossed by Newcastle and particularly a 17 year old and again they were totally overrun and out worked by a very average Utd midfield.

I truly believe that when fit we have one of the strongest squads in the Premiership. It should make zero difference about who is playing when it comes to the basics.

The problem is a total attitude and collective issue. Not a “one” individual player thing!

6.) 07 Dec 2023 14:19:10
The players have certainly let us down, some more than others but Poch also has to take some of the blame. Hopefully in the New Year we will have most of our players back; then we need to see a more cohesive approach to our games. I would also like to see players being played in their best positions; colwill doesn’t work as a fullback. I am also fed up with excuses about lack of energy, I thought the lack of European football would give us an advantage!

7.) 07 Dec 2023 15:52:15
Agree about the lack of energy excuse for most players for games Jimbo, though perhaps our S American players travelling back late from far away International break games in v different time zones may be expected to be a bit tired. Yet once on the pitch the adrenalin should get them going you'd think.

8.) 07 Dec 2023 16:21:34
No passion. I haven’t seen such bad football in the premier league. Poch is animated enough. Poor football poor management. I’d drop sterling and Jackson right away. Chick that Washington in for a game see how he does. Jackson lacks a football brain by the looks of his runs and movement.

9.) 07 Dec 2023 16:31:39
Think we can all agree that we weren’t expecting to be challenging for silverware this season, but the way we played last night was not acceptable on any level.

Man united got pelters for their performance against Newcastle, they turned up last night and made a statement to the critics, so fair play to them, they turned up…we did not.

10.) 07 Dec 2023 17:27:49
JBS, fair point about the S. American players but even so. Everton will be licking their lips; they feel aggrieved and are fighting.

Wow a massive reaction on this site from last night and I’m not surprised. Chelsea certainly should have killed the game off! Any other Arsenal team from the last decade would have crumbled so fair play to them. I was very annoyed last night with our lack of game management and weak mentality.
We haven’t been the same since November but this is Chelsea and we still have a massive month ahead.

all started to go wrong after an International break pezzzo.

21 Jan 2020 22:20:54
Either Jorghino or Kante in midfield?

pezzzo

1.) 21 Jan 2020 22:25:44
Kante all day, we need to adjust his position slightly. He's just too high at the moment.

15 Dec 2019 10:33:58
A full week to stew on that result.
It was a frustrating watch and I’d like to see changing the formation when teams start sitting at the bridge. Lamps and his team have their philosophies which we should trust. But just for fun here’s my team:
Kepa
Azpi Rudi Tomori

James Kante Alonso

Jorgi Kova
Pulisic
Abraham

1.) 15 Dec 2019 10:58:49
Mine would be as follows:-

Kepa

James Rudi Tomori Emerson

Kante Jorginho Kovacic

CHO Abraham Pusilic.

2.) 15 Dec 2019 11:18:37
Kepa

James Rudi Tomori Emerson

Kante Jorginho Kovacic

CHO Abraham Pusilic.

3.) 15 Dec 2019 11:27:11
Kepa

James
Rudiger
Tomori
Chilwell

Kovacic
Kante
Loftus-cheek

Sancho
Tammy
Pulisic.

4.) 15 Dec 2019 11:59:38
We can only dream for Chilwell in this window I fear but it would be nice.

21 May 2019 14:12:14
Apparently Chelsea have sold under 1000 tickets for the final.

pezzzo

1.) 22 May 2019 09:52:27
If we were in the Champions League Final in Baku, we would sell out our allocation and be demanding more tickets.

Got Lamps tinted glasses on but we are still 7 points off the top! I think his tactics and the way he deploys our personnel need scrutiny. It’s obvious no one else would get this leeway from the Chelsea hierarchy! Do we want the Abramovic axe like we’re used to or something different?
