ED001, what do you think of Julian Brandt from Leverkusen? he's a super player i think, can use both feet really well, works hard off the ball, got skills, genuine quality.

SarriBall

{Ed001's Note - I really like him, he was ahead of Salah in Klopp's choices that summer. If a move had been completed for him, as Klopp wanted, Salah would not have joined Liverpool. So that gives you an idea of how good he is.}

1.) 07 Feb 2019 12:45:25
Arsenal and United could do with him, they need right wingers, would have taken him at Chelsea before we got Pulisic.

2.) 07 Feb 2019 17:01:03
He's not a right winger but an attacking midfielder. He is exceptionally good at picking players out with his passing and scores goals but given the positions he gets into he should score more and don't expect him to track back because he doesn't and makes Jorghino look like a master defender!

3.) 07 Feb 2019 17:44:10
I never said he tracks back? I said he works hard off the ball, have also seen him play on the right wherr he also looks very good.

4.) 07 Feb 2019 19:25:58
I never accused you of saying he tracks back I was pointing out he doesn't and cannot as his tackling is clumsy at best. I have seen him some ten times and he is a midfielder who covers both left and right looking for and with the ball and he never started once on the wing. Nabil Fekir is by far the better player.

Is there any reason why Fernandinho never gets carded Ed001? He makes foul after foul and nothing happens, Jorginho made one and got a yellow straight away, it's infuriating. He makes a foul, gets 500 warnings, followed by a yellow and after that he's free to do what he wants without a second yellow, it such BS.

SarriBall

{Ed001's Note - this has been a subject that comes up time and time again and no one has ever figured out how Fernandinho gets away with so many fouls. Personally I think it is down to Pep putting pressure on officials. But he could literally decapitate an opponent and still only get a ticking off! It is unreal. I read somewhere they are top of the 'fair play' league this season and I immediately thought if Fernandinho and Kompany had got even half of the cards they deserved they would be at the bottom.}

1.) 09 Dec 2018 06:44:23
He's the master of the sly tactical foul. I think personally it is because he always backs off after the foul rather than confront the refereee- another player does that. I remember when Bayern used to do it with Martinez and Muller would always be deployed to scream at the referee.
Have to say, Eric Dier is as bad an offender.

2.) 09 Dec 2018 10:37:01
Refereeing has literally never been so bad in the last 20 odd years, needs to be put to a stop.

3.) 09 Dec 2018 12:14:55
Since I didn't see the game so focused last night, as my friends and I were getting pretty drunk at that moment, I saw it again this morning, and you're absolutely right, saying that he backs off, after committing fouls. I can remember one specific foul yesterday, where I at first thought it was Delph who'd committed it, since Fernandinho was already far away right after.

4.) 09 Dec 2018 14:42:26
I like pep he’s a very amiable guy and a great managger but I don’t like the fact his teams get favourable treatment, himself perhaps too. If the whole Catalonian symbol thing was somebody else like Mourinho I can’t help but think the media and FA would have crucified him. It takes a smart player to take a booking form time to time, Lucas did it for us, but that seems to be all fernandinho's game is and he escapes punishment.

5.) 09 Dec 2018 18:41:04
Re Fernandinho, he has taken the yaya you’re mantle, foul on foul never gets booked.

Awful, abuse the man who took us out of a 50 year old Darkness and led us to 3 league titles and quite a few cups, those fans were disgraceful. And Sarri's assistant, hang your head in shame, Jose was actually respectful today and we threw it back in his face! Fuming!

SarriBall

1.) 20 Oct 2018 16:15:14
I don't agree with what the fans did but i wouldn't get too worked up about the assistant. It's a last minute goal in a big game against a team who defended with 10 players for most of the game. Your emotions run wild in those moments, may be a little unprofessional but people are making a bigger deal out of it than it is. It gave me a laugh anyway and it's not like Mourinho hasn't done much worse. As for the fans Mourinho has been running his mouth about Chelsea for ages, spoke negatively about Conte and Chelsea numerous times when Conte was here. If the incident didn't happen then the fans wouldn't have reacted the way they did, obviously thought Mourinho was the person causing it.

2.) 20 Oct 2018 16:27:44
While I totally agree with the sentiment, this was obviously posted by someone not old enough to remember the midfield of Hollins Hudson and Cooke with Osgood and Hutchinson up front or the partnership of Dixon and Speedie supplied by Pat Nevin - 50 years of darkness my arse!

Ps Russian roubles may have played a big part in those titles and cups!

3.) 20 Oct 2018 16:35:39
EMbarrasing from the coach and ruined the goal completely. SHameful.

4.) 20 Oct 2018 18:11:32
The game wasn’t “ruined” by a stupid comment by a coach and it wasn’t ruined by our supporters having a dig at José.

I enjoyed the game, in particular the the way both coaches asked there plasters to play.

5.) 21 Oct 2018 00:35:39
I can thank Mourinho for the past, but to tell you truth I dislike him. I used to love the man but after his comments (the season we won the league with Conte) that we are only defensive team (even we have scored more goals then his team by big numbers) he lost all respect.

He was basically having a dig at us the whole season, so in all truth he can go do one with his red tinted glasses.

Maybe it's just his personal preference ED001. Could be getting 70 odd goals a season if he played upfront, currently gets around 50 but couples that with assists, creating chances etc. His passing fro m deep is extraordinary, one touch play, movement, vision and going upfront would lead to some of that being diminished/ seen less often which would be a shame.

Will also take a look at the videos, just really interested about this side of the game, rather than just seeing the 'usual' every game.

SarriBall

{Ed001's Note - it is a personal thing, he says he gets a bigger buzz from playing someone else in to score than he does from scoring himself.

If I see anything else useful I will drop the links on this site from now on for you. Not that I tend to see much very often these days and a lot of the best resources get closed off due to the footage being used is always taken down due to copyright infringement unfortunately.}

Thanks Ed001, talking of Messi, he's just scored another two. And will also talk a look at the necessary sites.

SarriBall

{Ed001's Note - Messi wants to play from deeper and be a playmaker rather than goalscorer, but it seems a waste to me when he is that good a finisher.

The big thing to do is not watch the ball when a game is taking place, which can be difficult, but you will not see the tactics and formations clearly by following the ball. If you can find the videos, George Graham did a series of tactical discussions on Sky Sports back in the early days of the Prem. He explained how he wanted his defence to work, the full backs covering back etc, then you watch the modern day game and you will see massive differences. It does give you some insight into the thinking he had and the positioning a defender should actually have. Makes for a good comparison and also makes you think about how a backline moves as a unit, something which then makes it easier to see when you watch a game.}

My bad, i sent that too early, strikers*, not necessarily goalscorers, tends to play everywhere nowadays lol.

Also, if i could ask, are there any websites/ books on the net that could help develop the understanding of tactics and gameplay etc or how the 'normal' person could, to a lesser extent, see the game in the way you do? Which is mesmerising, you're incredible at that mate.

SarriBall

{Ed001's Note - ah ok no worries.

I would suggest possibly Coaches Voice, that has some interesting stuff. Other than that you would be looking at scouting sites, such as Wyscout or Scout7 but I am not sure how much you can see on them without subscribing.

Books are difficult as they tend to focus on narrative, rather than the tactical side of things, so you are better looking at academical papers. Are you on LinkedIn? There are a hell of a lot of football people on there, particularly those trying to become coaches and scouts etc. They will often give out links which can then lead you to other links and so on, where you can get to those academical papers.

The FA website has some good resources as well, though their coaching courses are not the best, as they were created with ex-managers, such as 'Arry and Fergie, that never actually coached anyway. Still they do give you a bit of something to get started with and a different viewpoint. It is possible to do some free courses on there and get your Level 1 in scouting through the site, which does give a good basic platform to build on.}
