Hi eds - with all this talk of moving to Twickenham, have Chels managed to overturn the planning restrictions on capacity?

Mrs Drogba

{Ed002's Note - It is options being looked at. The restriction is not strictly capacity.}

1.) The main problem with increasing the size of the stadium is that the current exits on to the Fulham Road from the site are not sufficient to allow for 20,000 extra people in an emergency.

They calculate the available width of the exits and then apply a formula to tell them how many people could get off the site in a specific time frame.

The current exits do not allow for further expansion, so a solution has to be found that provides for additional site exits to be added. One such solution is to build a raised platform over the tube line behind the MH Stand.

Additional problems also include the fact that the majority of the existing properties around the site are listed and so knocking them down attracts additional problems.

2.) Well to be honest something has got to be done with Liverpool Expanding, Spurs planning a new stadium aswell has Everton and with Arsenal and Man U stadiums size we have got to find a way of increasing capacity to a level fit for a club of our stature its the last piece of the jigsaw.

Ed002 Messi? Truth, please?

Mrs Drogba

{Ed002's Note - I am aware that in Spain there has been speculation about an offer being made in the recent transfer window, but it is "largely" incorrect. This all started in December 2012 when In mid December Anzhi made an offer to Barcelona that matched the €250M euro release clause that existed in his contract, and put up what I am told was a "very" significant personal package. However, Messi was not interested in a move to Ruissia and Barcelona did not want to sell - so Messi, in early February 2013, extended his contract with Barcelona. In the early summer of 2013 efforts were being made by Adidas to broker a deal that would get Messi away from Nike and to one of their three high-profile clubs. Very quickly Real Madrid were rules out and with Pep Guardiola moving to Bayern Munich that pretty much saw the end of any chance of a move there (given the strained relationship). This left Chelsea and I can confirm that discussions were held about making a firm bid - at this point we are late 2013 and early 2014 and Messi was in a verbal spat with Barcelona about getting a further extension - which the club were against. Ultimately, the player was (at least in his eyes) available during the Spring of 2014 and at that point Chelsea and Adidas made his management representatives and Barcelona aware of what they would be willing to pay. Since then he has again extended his contract with Barcelona.}

1.) 28 Sep 2014 17:12:48
Guess we can chalk that up as 'what could have been' then. Sigh. Thanks for the info as always Ed.

2.) Wow interesting stuff, thanks a lot sir!

3.) Since then, adidas have signed that outrageous deal with manchester united. Is it likely that this deal had anything to do with the attempt to bring messi to an adidas club or am I reading too much into things?

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with Manchester United.}

4.) Wow just shows how far we have come to even be linked with players like Ronaldo and Messi oh what might of been hey lads.

5.) Ed002, sorry to keep bothering you with this. But has the interest from Adidas/Chelsea to get him at Chelsea passed now that he's signed the contract extension or will they put forth a new offer during next summer for example?
No worries if you don't know. It's fantastic to have you back, even if it is for certain matters only.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the situation that was. I would not hold your breath. As an aside, I will answer a few questions but have no real interest in discussing transfers on this page.}

6.) Alright, that's fine by me. Just good to know you're still around.
As an aside, would you know whether the deal with Turkish Airlines is completely done? Turkish A. revealed it via a tweet, but apparently that tweet has been taken down. Are they going to be the new sponsors?
Cheers Ed.

{Ed002's Note - Turkish Airlines will be the new shirt sponsors. I have no way to measure "completely done" I am afraid.}

7.) No worries Ed, the info you've given is completely sufficient in my eyes.
Thanks for all the answers already today :)

8.) Thanks Ed

9.) Thanks ed

10.) Cheers ed002. Extremely informative and interesting as per usual!

11.) Many thanks for the information Ed, fascinating insight (as usual). As an aside, brace yourself for questions relating to Adidas-sponsored stars and interest from Chelsea!

Mrs Drogba

Is there any interest in Mena the Chilean left-back?

Mrs Drogba

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

09 Apr 2014 08:45:45
Hi ed - you said that there was an ex-player trying to resolve the Lukaku situation - is that still the case?

Mrs Drogba

{Ed002's Note - Yes and he will keep trying. I would think that unless he can get the support of the manager then the club will not change position on the matter.}

1.) Can you say if Mourinho's presence at the Everton vs Arsenal game was linked to his appraisal of Lukaku, or related to another player entirely?

{Ed002's Note - He went to see Lukaku.}

2.) Any ideas if he thinks more highly of Lukaku after that good performance?

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with performance and I am pretty much done with the subject.}

3.) 10 Apr 2014 18:26:28
It would be nice if Jose could sit down with Lukaku and sort out the problem. Better for both parties concerned surely?

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the manager.}

Reality check - I had never heard of Kai Havertz until 3 weeks ago - seemingly on the basis of 1 good game in the recently resumed Bundesliga everyone is now saying this 20 year old is a superstar and would be a great buy! And I am still confused about where he plays: some say 'winger', some say 'AM' - if we do complete Timo Werner, do we need either another winger or AM?

Just a few weeks ago, we were all excited about us targetting Sancho / Dembele / Dries Mertens / Aubamayang / and even Zaha.

Come on - be honest - how many of you had heard of Kai Havertz a month ago?!

Mrs Drogba

{Ed002's Note - Everyone else - he has been of interest all season and I explained at Christmas that the issue was his price. Maybe you should try the search engine.}

1.) 10 Jun 2020 12:04:08
Ed002, I doubt that - it will be interesting to see how many posters had Havertz in their thoughts a month ago (if they're honest) .

{Ed002's Note - Why not try the search engine. I think it is just you who doesn't take notes of the posts.}

2.) 10 Jun 2020 12:28:26
I have been a reader for a few years now and have never posted until now.

Havertz has been on my radar for around 18months, in all honesty, I knew of him before I knew Sancho or Werner.

Eds need to be treated with more respect, they only contribute to this site for our benefit.

Why waste their time asking questions if your not going to believe or appreciate their answers?

3.) 10 Jun 2020 12:33:00
Ive known about Havertz for at least 3/ 4 Years as will the majority of fans across Europe. Werner, Ziyech and Havertz all very versatile and can adapt in-game which we have been lacking in recent times, on the bench you’d have Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi, Mount, RLC etc. I can’t think of a team in Europe that he wouldn’t walk into. Just my humble opinion.

4.) 10 Jun 2020 12:54:13
I have to admit I only looked at the player after the rumours of our interest surfaced. I’m not sure how long a fan or poster became aware of a player is in anyway relevant.

The Eds give their opinion an NO cost to us so and I’m sure the vast majority of fans appreciate their valuable insight.

5.) 10 Jun 2020 13:14:59
I agree it’s not really important, I think it’s fair to say the club know far more about the player than any of us fans, so I will trust their judgment and I believe we can pull a deal off for him, maybe a player plus cash deal? Who knows.

6.) 10 Jun 2020 13:31:48
Can only go back til 3rd Jan 2019, we were linked to Barrella, I said we should be getting havertz instead,

7.) 10 Jun 2020 15:34:34
Havertz has been in the radar of most the posters and maybe not yours only Mrs Drogba. Then again I do follow European football quite keenly. His a top talent.

8.) 10 Jun 2020 15:50:59
Exactly Ed002, most on here were aware of our interest in Harvertz since the last window (read the transfer updates Ed gave at the time) . I for one have known him as a player since he and Brandt were tearing it up for Leverkusen.

RTFP and stop the assumptions, it’s been a good couple of days on here with the positivity. It’s totally okay to stay grounded and not get into the transfer frenzy but don’t try and ridicule others because you have chosen to stay oblivious.

9.) 10 Jun 2020 16:10:50
I wasn't questioning the Eds who I think do a great job. The point I was making is a positive one: the media link us to different players everyday so it's brilliant to see us competing for players who are sought after by all the top clubs.

Situation88, Havertz would have been 16 years old 4 years ago.

Eli, how have I 'ridiculed' anyone?

10.) 10 Jun 2020 16:33:24
Mrs Drogba, I watched the game he made he’s first appearance against Werder Bremen and have tracked he’s progress ever since.

We are only human it’s hard not to be excited by potential transfers and have many questions for the Ed’s, however many questions are repetitive and tedious!

We all appreciate the effort and time the Ed’s put in.

11.) 10 Jun 2020 16:46:26
By questioning our optimism in the club bringing in a player you assume we know nothing about, while conveying that we have previously been « excited » just a few weeks ago » when linked to other targets. Not to mention you claim for a second time that most of us hadn't heard of Harvertz a month ago thus saying our optimism and joy is misplaced.

It’s slight but yeah there is a hint of « ridiculing «  going on in your post.

I have to admit to a smug smile watching Luiz's performance against Liverpool.

Mrs Drogba

1.) 25 Aug 2019 17:53:18
I had more than a smug smile watching the cricket.

2.) 25 Aug 2019 18:27:22
Even more smug now after Spurs flounder in the sun!

3.) 27 Aug 2019 07:10:52
David Luiz doing what he does best!

15 Aug 2019 18:02:54
If we sort out the defence (and with a smidgen of luck going our way) we will have a good season.
Zouma was much better yesterday - it will be interesting to see him alongside Rudiger.
Tomori looked good also.
Kante was immense - what a player!

Pedro had probably his best game in a Chelsea shirt.
Mount is going to be a superstar - the goalscoring midfielder we've been missing since a certain F. Lampard left.
The 1 big elephant in the room - it is so sad but Azpi is no longer good enough. His lack of pace is now affecting his positioning. Azpi has been our best defender for years - he is a hero - but it is time for him to go.

Mrs Drogba

1.) 15 Aug 2019 19:38:24
Zouma played better but I don’t think he’s going to fit into the style we want. I’d like us to go after Romagnoli to partner Christensen. Think Christensen is our best defender currently he always stays on his feet and that’s the sign of quality defenders. Rüdiger would be a good rotation option next year.

2.) 15 Aug 2019 23:54:03
I don’t think we’ll see Rudiger and Zouma playing together much imo. Think Azpi will most likely see out his contract unless he asks to move for first team opportunities (that is if James manages to replace him like expected)

3.) 16 Aug 2019 03:23:16
The drop off from Azpilicueta has been phenomenal. I was going to ask on here if the ed1 and other posters have noticed it or if I’m just being harsh but he’s looking shambolic. I’d also give the captaincy to Jorginho too honestly, he looks much more a leader.

{Ed001's Note - he does look lost. He has spent years at left back and then right sided centre back though, so he might just need to relearn the role.}

4.) 16 Aug 2019 08:04:11
To be honest, Azpi's played so much football over the past year, I think he's just lost a little sharpness. You'd have to look long and hard to find another outfield player that's amassed as many minutes as he has since he joined us. He's lost some speed and has looked winded in our matches so far.

I think there's a real chance James overtakes him this season. He's more dynamic, much stronger in attack and still good in defense as well. It's imperative we keep Azpi around for his experience, same as Pedro. But I could see him becoming the back up over the course of the season.

5.) 16 Aug 2019 08:13:03
standard, fair point on the captaincy . Jorginho sure looks like a good man to lead us.
i also think he is strong headed and marshals everyone around . fantastic in his vocal ability

no one has done that for us since JT FL DD PC . that presence . what do u think ED0001 . who is the best fit for the captains arm band?

{Ed001's Note - not Jorginho, he is far too temperamental for my liking. You need someone who is calm (as much as possible) so they are not on the verge of a rash sending off at any moment. Last thing you want to lose is your captain that way or you can end up in discipline crumbling Spurs style. Though, having said that, he has been much better in recent months with his temperament, so maybe he is maturing and the armband could complete that. See now I am talking myself into it!

I am struggling to think of a better choice in the Chelsea squad right now. You wouldn't want to do anything to distract Kante from doing what he does, plus he is a shy lad and I don't think he would welcome it. Other than him, you are only really left with centre backs (I am not considering Azpilicueta as he already has it and I am assuming you mean instead of him) and I am not convinced any of them are suited other than Christensen. He needs to do more to deserve it for me. So I am actually going to change my answer and agree with standard, the more I think about it the more the idea grows on me.}

6.) 16 Aug 2019 10:34:25
Zouma was at fualt for their 2nd goal as he didn't step. out with other defenders to trap mane in offside position.

7.) 16 Aug 2019 13:59:17
Ed001, what about Rudiger or Loftus-Cheek (when he returns)?

{Ed001's Note - neither of them are really convincing as leaders looking in from the outside.}

12 Aug 2019 17:55:37
I am not sure that I can agree with the positivity of the posts. I believe that Lamps made a series of questionable schoolboy errors. His 1st was allowing Luiz to leave - Luiz should have been a 1st choice and should have started yesterday.
Tammy Abraham has done nothing in his career to date or in pre-season to warrant a place ahead of Giroud or even Batshuiyi.
Zouma is just not good enough and never will be.
Christensen ditto.

If Kante was on the bench because of worries over his injury, why bring him on when we're 3-0 down?! Jorginho is too slow to play in the Prem - should have been sold back to Italy.

You might get away with playing both Mount and Barkley at home but not at Old Trafford - it left us far too exposed to the counter-attack.
I thought Azpi had lost a yard of pace last season - he is no longer quick enough to play full-back. I would move him to CB.

Overall, I was amazed that Lamps played such an open game first game of the season away at Old Trafford - didn't he learn anything from playing under Jose?! Or under AVB who dropped Frank to bring in youth - and we all know how that ended! Naive, naive, naive.

Mrs Drogba

1.) 12 Aug 2019 18:34:36
Whilst I believe a certain amount of pragmatism on our part may well of been a better course to take by our management team and I also agree that we were naive.

I cannot agree about Jorginho. His performance on Sunday was as good as his performances at the end of last season, FIRST CLASS. He should NOT be sold under any circumstance.

2.) 12 Aug 2019 20:00:58
Mrs Drogba Luiz statistically may have been our best defender but the stats don’t always tell the whole picture
Kane had2 or 3 bad loans then only got a chance because of an injury and the rest is history as they say maybe if Abraham’s shot went it different story but football is fine margins
Zouma I’ll agree looked of the pace but it’s early doors and pre injury he was immense
I thought Christensen was good yesterday but football is all about opinions
Mount was better for me then Barkley yesterday
Good minutes under Nantes belt to get him back to full fitness
Different situation with lamps he’s not been able to sign anyone so he’s got to trust the youth to a degree and I for one have wanted to see the youth get a chance
I’m 100% behind super frank it’s going to be a tough season we all knew this but onwards and upwards up the chels.

3.) 12 Aug 2019 20:03:33
Thumbs up TomB, your comment is good.
Mrs. Drogba; I think that to call D. Luiz's sale to Arsenal a school boy error would be putting it harshly (too quickly) cos a lot can still change, but I have to agree that Lamps should have handled the issue of D. Luiz better. I feel that Lampard would have just avoided a conversation with D. Luiz about game time (if that is what caused Luiz's sale) ; that would mean him playing Luiz when he feels that he wants to play him and leave him out when he doesn't want to play him (or if he feels that he's not suited to a particular game) . If eventually D. Luiz gets fed-up and pushes for a move, then he can sell him in another transfer window when the club can bring in a replacement. I think a good Director of football will know that.

On the issue of Zouma, I think he will improve as the season progresses, with another experienced central defender like Rudiger to partner with him, I think he will get better; I honestly feel that he looked too eager to impress and consequently made some mistakes, I guess with a little more application of caution and chill, he'll be ok for now.

Honestly, our centre forward department really scares me a lot, because at times when a team finds it difficult to score, the pressure falls back to the midfield and then the defense. If Tammy Abraham's chance found the net, I feel that the story could have been different. I pray Tammy, Giroud and Batshuayi hit goal scoring for cos we will need it.

At the moment, it is a no brainer that Batshuayi, Zappacosta and Bakayoko stay at the club this season. They can still offer us a lot while we wait for the next transfer window or summer. For instance, I feel that Zappacosta can do better than Azpilicueta (who can play central defense) going forward as a right back (at least until we see what Reece James will bring to the team) ; Bakayoko can still add a bit of steel to our defensive midfield position; Batshuayi can also give us some goals.

4.) 12 Aug 2019 20:20:08
Lads, it’s unlike me but can I just add one negative comment about our beloved team.

With the exception of Jorginho but including Dave our team are MUTE.

Players like Christensen and Zouma IMO require organising throughout a game and we lack vocal match leaders. Rudiger will I think help in that department but then I’m slightly biased because I think he should be our captain.

5.) 13 Aug 2019 21:34:18
Face it. We're rubbish. We haven't got the players. It's not frank I think he will be a great manager and we should stick with him if we finish above 17th. Other team have spent big money. Liverpool and man u are trying to buy trophy again and we just can't compete this season. Luis was average and he's gone now.

Very very sad.

I believe that Kepa's amortized break-even value is £53m this summer - it is very unlikely that we would be able to sell anywhere near this figure so we have 2 options: loan or stick. I only think we'll loan if we get Henderson (which is very unlikely) so it looks like we'll go for a cheap option - Roman Burki / Pau Lopez / Ugurcan Cakir / Mike Maignan?

Bucking the trend - I'd go for Jadon Sancho. His record of assists and goals this season is phenomenal.

I truly believe that Sancho has it in him to be the new superstar a la Ronaldo.

Also, and I don't think this should be underestimated, he desperately wants to come to us.
