Hi Ed, is there any update in regards to Maatsen?

Hi Ed,

You’re probably going to get flooded in regards to transfers today so I apologise in advance,

There is a lot of noise in regards to Enzo atm with Portuguese media saying he’s staying, more English news outlets saying we’re advancing in negotiations,

Is there any chance you would be able to provide some clarity on the matter? I understand nobody can talk in absolutes however any input would be appreciated.

Mc1993

{Ed002's Note - I have done so already.]

Brighton’s manager publicly speaking about wanting Cowill in his team. Surely this is illegal or classed as an illegal approach?

Mc1993

{Ed002's Note - Of course not.}

1.) 21 Jul 2023 23:24:55
It's tapping up if they speak directly to Levi himself without the permission of Chelsea.

Not illegal if they comment on it in the media, though if I were Chelsea I wouldn't be happy with that behaviour at all. They want Colwill and that's all well and good, but with other clubs like Liverpool interested I don't see how they would have the money to buy him even if Chelsea were willing to sell. Pool would likely outbid them.

Caicedo is a brilliant player. If Chelsea indeed offered 75 mil + bonuses and Brighton rejected it, then I'd suggest we walk away and go for another option. Brilliant player, but not the only one in the world. Even I as a fan am tired of the dealings with Brighton.

2.) 22 Jul 2023 10:40:41
I have not been pleased with the speed to which we are getting players in, no doubt the recruitment team must have been putting great shift. But caicedo isn't the only under 22yo DM around? he was recruited for under 5m, and now they are been ridiculous because of some perceived desperation. I wish we could look at other options earlier as the protracted negotiations won't do us any good. scout should look around for quality young dm. At worst I'd take partey for a year loan while the scout do their job. Brighton are been ridiculous, colwill is a no go area for whatever trick they have up their sleeve.
who knows anything about dusan tadic transfer, he seems available after ending his deal with Ajax. His stat is ridiculously great and at 28, he's a bait worth bitting.

3.) 22 Jul 2023 21:52:07
De Zebri hasn’t broken any rules but most coaches wouldn’t mention players who are at other clubs. There are two scenarios; De Zebri thought is was okay to do so as his own opinion or the hierarchy at Brighton encouraged him to do it to try to unsettle Colwill.

4.) 22 Jul 2023 22:00:08
Just sign 2 DMs .

Question for ed 1, I've seen links for Lewis Dunk as a potential CB at CFC, clearly just speculation on my part, but I haven't seen really much of him play this season. Would you think he is an upgrade on our current CB's?

Mc1993

{Ed001's Note - he is good on the ball, solid defensively, but the issue is a lack of pace which can make a high line difficult. He is not really slow though, so I suppose the team could manage with him there and still play a high line. To me, I would call him an upgrade on Christensen, if he were to sign, but he does possess the advantage of being happy to play on the left side of defence as well, which is something lacking at Chelsea right now.}

1.) 03 Aug 2020 14:44:48
Thanks ed!

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

2.) 03 Aug 2020 16:53:21
For what it’s worth, I rate Dunk highly.

He plays on the left of the defence but he is better with his right foot and he can ping a good long ball.

He isn’t the quickest but not a cart horse.

29 next Birthday but he is a leader and that’s some thing we have been crying out for.

Obviously Premiership experience helps and if I remember correctly he is a Chelsea supporter.

I know this comment will get me some stick but he is very JT like.

3.) 03 Aug 2020 18:55:53
I agree, TomB - I think I was saying we should go for Dunk a couple of summers ago - a real leader.

4.) 03 Aug 2020 18:58:34
Ed who are the two highly talked about defenders lfc kouyate? ( spelling ) And the one we were linked with along time ago, from Lille . Left footed and fast?

{Ed001's Note - do you mean Konate? The RBL defender? If so I like him but he is right sided, very good right back as well as centre-back.

The other one I can only think of Magalhaes (if I have spelt it right) as Lille that is left-footed. Is it him you mean?}

5.) 03 Aug 2020 21:44:45
Yeah those were ones I meant, seen mentioned few times. More so Magalhaes as we were linked, I’ll be honest CB’s and LB who there have been so much talk about I haven’t got a clue who would best suit us. LBs from grimaldo to Chilwell to Telles etc etc and CB’s all seem young and highly thought of but no real ready made which I thinks what’s needed, dunk being a name Linked who’s not up and coming.

{Ed001's Note - Dunk seems like a leader as well, which is something you are missing at the back. Still got at least 4 years in him. The more you think about it, the more his signing makes sense, as he is exactly what you seem to lack.}

Question for any of the Ed's.

Do players actually take into consideration champions League football when the are potentially moving clubs? Obviously I may be referring to Havertz saga after our loss today but just in general, do players think of it as a deciding factor?

Mc1993

{Ed001's Note - it depends on the player. Some certainly do, others take a more long term view. Sometimes it is about how the managers wants to use them. They are individuals, there is no such thing as one size fits all.}

1.) 11 Jul 2020 21:30:00
Yeah that's true, I always use to think that it may be one of the deciding factors but after we signed Ziyech an Werner with no guarantee of it, kind of shifted my perspective.

There are some better options (fekir, lozano, Pepe) but I'm still overall pleased if we sign pulisic.

Fast, speedy, technical winger who just needs some improvement on end product. At 20 years of age and coming from an athletic family. I have no doubt in my mind that pulisic wouldn't improve that under Sarri because of his great mentality.

Another reason why I am happy that we sign him is because we probably will be in the market for 2 wingers anyway. Willian is terrible and is now 30. Pedro is a great back up option but is also 30+. And hazard well. we know the situation with him

So the potential for more than 1 winger coming in is quite high. Would I want us to be reportedly signed the others I mentioned above? Sure. But there is no reason to suggest right now that pulisic can't be better than those other options.

Hi Ed,

A lot of noise in the media right now about this. Obviously you can’t give absolutes but is this deal looking like something could be done?

Mc1993

{Ed002's Note - I have already answered.}

Seriously guys? Can't you just accept no for an answer? I get frustrated seeing questions being asked to the Ed's about the defence knowing full well that they won't provide any info, so god knows how's the Ed's feel. Can we just all act mature and accept someone else's decision?

Woeful performance? Really? Wasn't great attacking wise but we're playing against arguably the most inform Spanish team right now. A team that dominated United, Inter Milan and won the Uefa Cup so I'm not surprised we sat back abit more and soaked up the pressure.

First game in the champions league this year against our main rivals in the group. If we aren't going to win, let's not lose. A boring match from and attacking stand point but very happy to keep a clean sheet against a great attacking team. Woeful performance? Hardly.

Guys. he's been at the club a just over a week. let's use abit of context he's not going to be great. Best thing for him was getting on the pitch for 79 minutes.

Why are you guys making a big deal out of nothing? It's a friendly and everyone was bound to be rusty. Nobody is going to perform 100% in it. This game was about getting some match fitness and for some new signings to get a run out, nothing more nothing less.

Good post, the thing is, Havertz is pretty much like that most games. I think a lot of people expect him to be this guy who is constantly running for the team, and they will be disappointed. This guy glides through the game effortlessly and always seems to be in the right position at the right time. Whether that's to make a challenge, receive the ball or like tonight, be able to give an receive the ball to finish with his weaker foot. The guy has it all.

18 goals and 9 assists this season from a variety of positions across the midfield and attack. I don't think our midfield got 18 goals this season combined and il be honest I don't want just another midfielder coming into the team who has high work rate but zero end product, we have kovacic who can run and dribble but can't shoot or assist, Kante who can run for days an tackle, no end product though, we have Barkley who has a engine on him, mount too who can run an pop up with a goal and assist then an there and finally we have jorginio who tries to run and can pass the ball around in non threatening positions. We need attacking threat from our midfield.

I just hope that if he comes, people on here won't give him slack because he looks like he doesn't to give much effort when or cba when in reality he is, he is just smart enough to know when the right time is to do it. His football intelligence and Positioning is crazy.

That's just the way he is. He isn't someone who will run and run for the sake of it. He glides across the pitch but always seems to be in the right position at right time. I beg everyone watches a few matches since January of him to see that's the way he is.
