I think it’s a very smart move on Sarri’s side to say he wants to leave. Can you imagine if he stayed when we didn’t sign anyone coz of the ban? Within 10 games the fans would be complaining that we haven’t introduced enough youth, within 20 games we aren’t challenging for the league. If Sarri Is then dismissed at that point he won’t be able to join another club until the end of the season, and what are the chances of a club as big as Juventus being available.

Because of the forthcoming ban we need a manager that isn’t going to get abuse every week, and acknowledging that this season is about integrating youth and building the foundations for years to come. Lampard will get much more time and patience from the fans for this to work. Sarri would have got 10 games before the fans wanted him out.

I think you got his thinking right. I wouldn't waste my time with the fan base.

It’s a bit obvious that a majority of fans don’t understand what patience means. It takes time to implement your philosophies, and growing pains is a part of it. Think we’re making a massive mistake.

Matt, I couldn’t agree more!

This is the first time I’ve posted for years, but feel I should put some perspective in about our transfer ban. For everyone commenting asking if our ban can be overturned and if we can use this window during an appeal. I feel that we have been banned for a reason. To me it seems obvious we have committed several offences, and not for the first time. I think we deserve to have this ban, and the club should actually learn their lesson this time. We have a brilliant squad of players. Not in Man City’s class or Liverpool’s but with the squad we have we can easily achieve top 4 and going some distance in Europe if we use the correct tactics for each opponent and get a bit of luck along the way too.

We do need a striker, but that’s the fault of the club for getting banned and not getting the correct long term recruitment in place.

I’m really confident in our youth and most of the current first team, but we need to get behind the boys and not slag them off after they’ve had a bad game.

This season 2 finals and top 4 without really spending a huge amount is an incredible achievement and with stability we should be able to build on this. Maybe we need this ban. just saying.

Welcome Dave to our sometimes happy forum.

I’m not happy with the presumption of our guilt. I will wait until the appeals process is finalised before I make any comments on our clubs behaviour. Although with so many things we have been found to have done it’s hard to imagine we aren’t guilty of at least one of them.

I agree about our need for a quality striker and I am confident the club will be signing one ASAP.

We do have some talented youngsters on the brink of a first team breakthrough. I think the fans will understand that young players form can be a little bit erratic.

For me, I’m really pleased with the season. We certainly haven’t been consistent but Sarri should IMO be congratulated on his first season as manager and I truly believe we will see more improvements next season.

The team selection today will be very interesting and I hope one ore maybe two players will make their first team debut today.

COME on my MIGHTY BLUES.

Good posts both.

I tend to agree that Sarri has done well and I think that critics are probably being impatient.

Sarri has implied strongly that he's staying at Chelsea (or at least in England) and along with qualification for the CL I think that a delay on the ban will see us in a much better position than if we miss the next two windows.

Let's sign players whilst we're in a position of (relative) strength and back the manager.

*dreams of Jovic*.

I have always had the opinion over the last 10 years that Chelsea fans can be very fickle and quick to judge, but we have always backed our team and manager whilst the game is on. However since Rafa Benitez came I feel that the fans have felt we are too good for certain managers and players. The amount of times I hear “deadwood” on this forum. yet can you imagine them saying that about Dennis wise, or tore Andre Flo. No:. coz talent isn’t everything. Workrate, options from the bench. they are just as important. But some of our fans just want us to spend big money on players, and then immediately when they hit some poor form they want them gone and replaced by a youth player. Until we don’t win the league and then we want a big name player again.

The atmosphere at the bridge hasn’t been very good for midweek games for a few years but now the atmosphere at the league games has got even worse. Against Watford the fans didn’t sing a song until the second half.

It’s such a shame coz I love my club win or lose! We just don’t seem to have respect for ourselves or other teams.
