I fear that this question would be best aimed at ed002 as (s) he seems to have good knowledge of the inner workings of a football club. No offence to the other eds, you may know more than I'm giving you credit for.

Reading the rumours about the alleged proposal that Barcelona have made for Willian and the player that could potentially be used as a makeweight, I was wondering if factors such as age, potential and future resale value of players have any bearing on the overall worth of a club? If we needed a loan for a new stadium, would the players, and these various factors, be seen as assets that would increase or decrease the amount we could borrow? If you have a team of 30 year olds that play at the same professional level and achieve identical results to a team of 21 year olds, surely the younger team is a better option to back for a big loan?

I see the for and against selling Willian argument from both sides as he's been a loyal servant with a decent workrate but surely this is the last (and best) chance we would get (if the rumours are true, of course) of ever getting any considerable amount of money for him.

Any financiers in our ranks care to tackle this one?

CS.

{Ed002's Note - The players are not fixed assets and do not impact the value of the club from a financial perspective.}

I'm in finance. Would've been surprised if players were included as fixed assets.
