It's been said a lot of times, but dear God does Alonso not play close to well enough to be starting every league game right now. Yes he does have an incredible shot, as he proved today by almost scoring a very good goal, but his main job is to defend, and he simply cannot. I really think we need to give Emerson a chance at left back, it can't really get much worse on the defensive phase.
On a positive note, great that we got the win. Really had a bad feeling after Andone got on, that we would become sloppy, which we did get, but luckily we got the win, and hopefully a bit of confidence.

I’ve got no idea how he got a new contract it must have been his goals last year. We need to stop giving people contracts on past performances.

I’d try for Chilwell in January. Turning into a quality full back and he’s homegrown.

Good shout king Kante when I watch Robertson think we missed a trick think he’s a really good lb and he only cost £10 million I think which in the current market is an absolute snip.

Very much agree about the contract. He must've gotten it because of past performances and a few early goals and assists. Sarri cannot seriously mean at this point, that Alonso has potential to become the best left back in Europe.

Against Huddersfield and Newcastle he was pretty good but defensively he's not the best. He needs to go back to the basics of defending. Good player but should be dropped if continues like this.

If we assume our managers opinion maybe more informed than supporters! Didn’t Sarri say he has the potential to be the best left back in the world? Maybe that’s why he got a improved contract.

Dave was getting slaughtered a few games ago and look how he is playing now.

I’m sure Alonso will recover some form soon but I would have no problem seeing Emerson being given some more game time.

Difference between Dave and Alonso is Dave has always been world class defensively he’s had his blip now he’s playing well again. Whereas Alonso has never been good defensively cause he doesn’t have pace.

Not saying Sarri is wrong but he said in his interview he only likes Alonso for his height from set pieces. I don’t like that one. With Rudi, Luiz, and RLC (if he starts) we have some big players.

Jose kept playing Ivanovic and that ruined him. Hopefully we get a new LB in so he’ll bench Alonso.

Not sure what Iva has got to do with it.

Sarri has said he can be the best left back in the world. I might not agree with that assessment but I do know Sarri knows more than me and probably more than most supporters!

He isn’t playing well be I’m sure he will come out of his bad patch soon.

If he does decide to “bench” Alonso, I hope he gives Emerson a chance.

I have been really impressed by Digne but he only joined Everton in August (£18m) . Whoever organises our scouting system needs shooting - the money that we've wasted!

I’m sure someone will have some strange transfer stat but my guess is we NO worse than other clubs at scouting players.

For one reason or another some players just don’t work out.

Anyway, I’m happy with the three points away from home.

In his last season he declined rapidly and was shocking but Mourinho continued to play him. Before the last couple of seasons he was probably the best RB we’ve ever had.
