Hi Ed I know this is probubly a stupid question and I am prepared to be shot down by your wicked wit
But there is talk of messi leaving Barcelona I know in the past we have been linked and a couple of years ago would have made a serious play
For him I'm just wondering would chelsea be interested
I for one don't think he fits into the brief of the team at the moment and what realistically would it take to buy him and who would be interested
Not totally Chelsea related but I know in the past it was said it was possible.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are not now nor have ever been interested in signing Messi.}

Thank you
But out of interest what sort of deal would it take to buy Messi.

{Ed002's Note - Huge wages.}

Judging by Ed’s previous comments on Messi moving it seems it would likely be to a team that is sponsored by Adidas. Adidas’ top 6 teams (income wise) that they sponsor are Real Madrid, Manchester United, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Flamengo which probably realistically leaves United, Juventus and Bayern as options for different reasons. (Assuming he wants to continue playing in the Champions League)

Pretty sure it was 2015. Chelsea along with our then shirt sponsors, Adidas, attempted to come up with a package to lure Messi away from Barcelona/ Nike. This was happening around the time that Messi was have tax issues in Spain. Can’t recall whether we’d come up with anything close to be actually presentable but think 6-7months later we ended up cancelling our contract with Adidas and Barcelona ended up paying Messi’s tax burden.

{Ed002's Note - Only one club has actually tried to buy Messi by offering to pay his buy out clause and that was not Chelsea. Barcelona and a commercial partner resisted an approach by Adidas to help fund a purchase of a player on behalf of a club they were looking to invest in.}
