Also in terms of Hazard, I would love for him to sign a new contract but it doesn't seem to be happening on his part.

I'm happy that the board kept him over the summer rather than selling him for a premium valve knowing that his value will only depreciate given his contract situation. It has given the board on opportunity to agree new terms but as we know the offer is on the table but Hazard clearly is waiting for a formal RM approach whether that comes or not in the summer. At least the board tried and acted reasonably here and won't have regrets. It's easy to say that we should buy a 150m striker, 150m right attacking midfielder and a premium left back to show ambition which probably keeps hazard. However, let's be honest even PSG would struugle to do that in one window. I don't think the young players we are after is what hazard calls ambition either.

I suspect RM will wait for the summer and try to get him for half his value which I can see the board accepting because come next year January it will become desperate for us. RM will want hazard on the cheap and maybe another blockbuster player next year and pay his full price.

Fair enough hazard has won everything with us and maybe he deserves to go to RM on a personal level. It doesn't seem our ambition is the same these days but that's fine. From a fans perspective it's a shame, however he hasn't always given the club respect with his mouth but obviously he makes up for it with his football. His open about wanting to join Madrid so if he wants to go then maybe we should let it happen come summer. He will always be remembered at the bridge as a legend, top player.

Chelsea FC does not die if Hazard goes, don't forget we were successful prior to his arrival.

We’re as I agree with most of what your saying football clubs are a business and we all knew hazard wanted to go to Madrid even before the World Cup. I believe the club has been played by both hazard and Madrid knowing only two years left on his contract. Spend another year at Chelsea to not tarnish his reputation (like courtois has) and Madrid get him £100m cheaper with him getting higher wages. This in turn leaves Chelsea with a smaller budget. I know I’m all doom and gloom but the club is bigger than any player and if they show a small sign of wanting to leave then the higher price must take over any admiration of the players quality. For example if we would of sold last season you would be looking at about £200m after a great World Cup. Now we will be lucky to get half of that which again the leaves us with a smaller budget to purchase players to help the team. Personally I’d love him to stay forever but He is world class in a good side so can’t complain about his possible departure only the manner in which its played out.

NWVLUE the point you are missing though as is that keeping Hazard was the difference for us challenging for top 4 or not being there at all. If we missed put on Champions league spot (nobody guarantees that we won't anyway) that's probably 40-50 million worth anyway not to mention not being able to sign top class players as we won't be playing in champions league.

Basically keeping hazard was the right thing to do.

I wonder if Hazard would sign a 1-year extension to his contract with the verbal promise that we would sell him in the summer? This would have the benefit to the Club of being able to ask for a full transfer fee while allowing Hazard to leave in the summer remaining in high regard by the Chelsea fans.

ChelseaLRD. I understand what your saying but if you can guarantee £100m extra by selling last season or hope you get champions league etc, I think as a club it’s a bad decision and will affect future signings. As I said before though I hope I’m wrong and he stays as he’s clearly in top 10 players in world football. I just think £200m could of really helped the team in more than one position for a player that isn’t sure on where he wants to play.

Darren Wood I hear what you are saying, however it doesn't seem that players think like that in the modern era mate. The less RM buy Hazard for would mean more in wages to the player.

I know this is last year now but Ed002 has told us we are well and truly complying with FFP and had a lot to spend (something along those lines) so I can’t imagine the fee for Eden hazard would effect us too much in regards to buying.
