Hi Ed, quite a while ago you said that what ever happened with the Hulk deal would not effect other signings. Do you still view this the same? What I mean is, would there be a possibility of Chelsea signing Hulk and another striker on top of that? For example if we signed Cavani and then Porto lowered their asking price for Hulk would we still try and sign him? (I know this is very unrealistic, and it's purely speculative!) I was just wondering if Hulk was still a stand alone signing or not.

Thanks a lot for all your efforts and hard work!!

Ash {Ed002's Note - There is no link between the two but it remains very unlikely that both would happen. Moses plus one other seems more likely.}

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Alright, thanks a lot for the info Ed!

Marseille appear to be "driving a hard bargain" according to the mirror over Azpilicueta.Yet again a club that is difficult to deal with even if we offer a fair package for the player.I feel for the people at the club that have to deal with clubs such as Wigan and Marseille over the respective deals of Moses and Azpilicueta.It's not fair for them. {Ed002's Note - Marseille are not dificult to seal with at all. Two people spent a day and a half at Chelsea last week.}

Believable1 Unbelievable3

So is a deal all but agreed yet ? {Ed002's Note - Pretty much.}

Ok dont laugh but heard a very interesting thing today, it doesnt neccesarily mean its Chelsea but thought i'd share. Michael Owen is apparantly holding off signing for any other club, as he is waiting for a paticular "massive" club to conclude its business before getting back to him.
Yes very unlikely but if for whatever reason we cant sign any of our striker targets then Owen on a pay as you play deal?

GullitDreads {Ed002's Note - No.}

The "massive club" as you put it is liverpool

hi ed do u believe the cavani deal will happen {Ed002's Note - Efforts have been made all year - it is possible.}

Believable4 Unbelievable0

But at what point do the club look elsewhere ED? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you mean. The club are not going to make a knee jerk purchase if Cavani is not available. You know where the interest is.}

ED002 is it true Middleborough are close to agreeing a deal for Josh Mceachren for a loan move? {Ed002's Note - I don't know but there have been enquiries from several clubs including Bolton, Blackburn and Dijon.}

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Josh need premiership football

Agree0 Disagree0

No, championship is strong enough; he wont get much game time at a prem club yet! I'd like him to go on loan to Bolton personally.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I'd prioritize consistent match time at championship over uncertainty in the premiership. You can always reevaluate half way through if he blows it up.

In and outs I'd like to see before the end of the t window:

In: azpilicueta £8m
Moses. £10m
(would like Sahin but not essential)
Falcao. £40m.
Falcao purely for the reason that I think he is the only top quality striker out there worth big money. I wouldn't mind seeing Cavani but certainly not for more than £30m. He wouldn't be well suited to what we will play like next season. (I'm saying this as one of his biggest fans!)

Out: Malouda/Benayoun £5m
Meireles. £8m
Kakuta £5m
Lukaku + McEachran loans

Believable15 Unbelievable3

I think we should keep either benayoun or meireles purely because they provide cover in central midfield and could be helpful in moving the ball forward quickly

Agree0 Disagree0

Benayoun ain't a cm and Meireles can hardly pass accurately....

Agree0 Disagree0

If azculipueta comes in to go with ivanovic and hutchingson then ferriera could be let go also

Agree0 Disagree0

Ferreira deserves to stay at the club. Personally I want him to retire at Chelsea because he has been loyal. Although he isn't at his prime anymore, he still loves the club.

Any development with Cavani? and what is the latest with Hulk? The only reason i ask ed is there is A LOT of paper talk tonight, thanks ed {Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed - Cavani remains Chelsea's preferred option and there is a significan difference in price offered and desired for Hulk.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Without getting involved in a discussion about price, how far apart are chelsea and napoli in their valuations of the player?

trueblue012 {Ed002's Note - The price differential is for Hulk, not Cavani.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the reply. so what is the deal with cavani, have we made a bid or is there nothing happening right now? i would love to see him play upfront with torres

Hi Ed002 hows life treating you ?
A few questions for you today.

And fellow Chelski Fans,

1) I am aware Mata will not be avalible for the game against City for the charity shield but will he start in the first EPL game against Wigan ?

2) I understand we hold intrest in Schurrle,Cavani and possibly Lorrente any intrest being shown in Damiao ? For the ST position ?

3)Lukaku looks set for a loan move in the EPL reports suggesting that Fulham is not the destination he is heading in im guessing that means hes proberly going to Norwich or Westham do you have any idea ?

4)Any news on Fringe players moving on at all havent herd much for a while ?

5) Lastly i know right now our priorites lie in getting a RB and RW i.e Moses , Ceaser (cant spell his sir name) and the St position obviously only if the right player for right price can be found but say we do move Meriles on would we look at buying a suitible replacement midfielder to play behind the 3 attacking middfielders ?

Thanks for taking the time to answer take care all and Gl the blue's for the Shield.

forever Carefreeeeeeeeeeeeeee !
BlueBen {Ed002's Note - (1) Mata is back and in training but may well be spared for the weekend after not having a real break. I have not yet decided on the team for teh Wigan game. (2) Not by Chelsea. (3) Stoke, Sunderland, Everton - we will see. (4) Meirelles possibly. (5) There is no immediate plan to.}

I would love to see some more width in the Chelsea game. In the days of Robben there was so much success out on the wings and I think we would be on the road to that same success if people like Hazard can be persuaded to have a bit more width if we have 3 across the attacking midfield. Also Victor Moses would be good at that as well as he loves to take people on and is capable to succeed in that position.

there are going to have to be a lot of tactical changes and decsions to be made from Di matteo.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

I admire wingers like Di Maria, Navas and Tello who still stick to that 'chalk on boots' wing style that Robben and Duff had. Too many wingers look to turn in and go for goal instead of stretching teams I think now.

LJ

Agree2 Disagree0

That is my one and only gripe with hazard so far is I wish he was more disciplined when placed on the wing. You may make more things happen in the center however you clog it up and make it harder for others around you. Last weekend being a fine example.

I just have a question (or two)......
Did anyone really rate Ramires before last season?
He seemed to be a very quiet player and nothing brilliant came out of him. But this season he was one of our standout players. I really can't remember him playing that good before. I might be wrong but I just can't remember..........Oh yeah, who did we sign him from and when?
Thanks, RT

Believable1 Unbelievable12

We signed him from Google.

Benfica about 2 seasons ago

Agree0 Disagree0

Who cares what he was like when he arrived
It's what he's like now that counts

Agree0 Disagree0

I've always loved Ramires after the first time I saw him play, because of the effort he always puts in.

I hated it when he was disliked by the fans for basically no reason.

Roweycfc

Agree1 Disagree0

He only joined January of the season before last, along with David Luiz for c.18-20mil I believe. Like Wilkins said, it's amazing for a player to adapt to a league like the EPL in such a short time at such a young age. Love Rami!

LJ

Agree0 Disagree0

He signed summer 2010 from benfica actually .

Agree0 Disagree0

He arrived in the summer of 2010 from sl benefica. His first year he seemed to pop up a lot but never really produced much final product. Last season his positioning play increased a lot (especially offensively) and he also added some skill to his portfolio.

Tk

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought he was a crap buy till xmas time but now i wouldnt leave him out of a team.

Agree0 Disagree0

First year he seemed a little light weight, would get knocked off the ball to easily and it looked like he was a player who relied on pace and pace only, however last year he was stronger, better endurance and just matured as a player.

hi ed,

would you be able to clarify Lukaku's loan move please?
As far as i am aware there is an agreement with Fulham but this will only go through IF we sign another striker? am i right or way off the mark?

thanks
James {Ed002's Note - No. He will go on loan but probably not to Fulham.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think fulham is the best place for lukaku, without being immediate ovals, they play good football, with good build up, something he needs. He also needs to adapt to the English version of the game better.

As Llorente has rejected a new 3 year deal because he wants wages of £80,000, but are only prepared to offer him £60,000 I see him as a possible bargain buy if the prices he is being quoted at are true ( beleived to be around £15 million).

He is a proven goalscorer, 6ft 5 so and capable in the air and at the age of 27, surely a better option than cavani or hulk as even though people may see them having better ability etc...

At the prices id rather have a £15 mill Llorente than cavani or hulk at £35 mill+, as you have to remeber we are the famous CFC and no one should try to out price us over anyone no matter what their ability!!

Joe CFC

Believable4 Unbelievable1

You would rather have a 15m than a 35m player but no one should out price us

Am I missing something

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be a top signing, but City, united, Arsenal and Juventus all apparantly interested as well

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd absolutely love him at Chelsea. Also, his full name is Fernando Llorente Torres, he only dropped the Torres part after our number 9 rose to prominence. So if 1 Fernando Torres doesn't get us enough goals then 2 Fernando Torres' surely will!

Agree0 Disagree0

Why does everyone rate Llorente, Imo hes average ?

is it true that neymar is aloud to go on a free in 2014 {Ed002's Note - No.}

Believable1 Unbelievable6

A quick Google search would have shown that question to be a load of cobblers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a miss quotation, he (Santos President) ment to say he is free to look for another club (transfer listed) but its whoever bids the most for him and offers the best deal. It looks more than likely he will go to Barca unless Oscar/Luiz/Piazon can work their magic and convince him to come to Chelsea. It will look better for Chelsea if we get a good haul of trophies in the mean time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well held back ed

Agree0 Disagree0

To everyone who keeps asking this. The Santos President meant that he will be free to leave Santos in 2014 without anyone stopping him. It does not, i repeat not refer to the fee.
Hope that clears it up :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Why on earth these pratts keep posting this as if santos would be stupid to let the most hottest talent in world football go on a free! U gotta be thick

Pinky

He isn't aloud to go on a 'free' but I heard that he is free to leave Santos after the WC

So chelsea to wrap up the deal of victor moses on friday and azpilicueta shortly after.. now for the striker situation, cavani possibly..?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Shaping up that way, wether Meireles goes as part ex is another questions but if he does we could get Cavani for £27mil.

Ed,

Has Chelsea actually ever made contact with Napoli about a deal for Cavani? That rumor about some 'unnamed' FIFA agent overseeing the deal is the dumbest thing I've ever heard other than that Messi to Chelsea article. The situation with a new striker has been frustrating. With so much uncertainty surrounding how Torres is going to perform next season we need a striker who we know is a solid performer. There seem to have been 3 options for us at this time.

-Victor Moses- The Wigan star seems to be close to a deal. There are some financial problems though with Wigan holding out for their £10million pricetag whilst Chelsea look for a £8.5million deal. Moses is just 21 years old and looks great. He obviously wouldn't be first choice however, he is quick and attacking and loves to take people on. He could play on the wing just as well being a substitute for Hazard perhaps.

-Andre schurrle- This man also looks great, at the same age: 21, he fits brilliantly into the younger players policy we have adopted seeing the likes of Hazard and Oscar arrive. We originally bid £16million which was rejected by Bayern Leverkusen and they quickly shut the door to a deal. However, recently we have been said to have bid an increased £20million which could see the forward sign. I'm sure Leverkusen will try their hardest to get a good price for their young peice of talent.

-Cavani- We have been monitoring this guy for a long time now and haven't got particularly far. So you can imagine the excitement amoung the club when Napoli president suggeted that he would be available sparking a renewed interest. He is 26 years old so is fairly experienced which is perhaps what we need with all the new potential we have. The Uruguayan didn't have a particularly impressive olympics and people have been down-playing him for that. But, why should that affect his club performances? Napoli obviously want as much as possible but I can see we will be able to get him for about £35million. I don't know what would happen to Torres, perhaps it will be the same as him and Drogba or they could for a partnership up top. If that were to succeed then coupled with the potential and technical quality of our attacking midfield we would have one of the best attacking teams in Europe.

The most realistic option is the buying of Moses and Schurrle with a total cost of around £28-30million.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

09 Aug 2012 09:40:54
Funny how everyone is having a go at Cavani cause he had a bad Olympics. Fair enough he was poor but if you've watched him before the olympics you can tell he had his future in his mind and didn't want to get injured or anything so he didn't play as aggresively as he always does . However, I do agree that anything above 35 mil is a bit too much for him, but to say he is over rated is wrong . In 68 league games for Napoli he has scored 48 goals and we all know the Italian league isn't the easiest of leagues. Just imagine what he can do with the likes of Hazard, Juan, Oscar , Marin and possibly Moses around him. He only needs a sniff at goal to score, its obvious he wasn't at his best at the olympics and judging him by that is wrong .

Then there is Torres, now before you all start thinking I'm a Torres hater, I'm Gonna say the moment he dumped the scousers for us I became his biggest fan, things haven't worked out well for him in blue and I am all up for him being our main man, then I take a look at Madrids stikers ( mind the "s" ) and see how many goals Higuain and Benzema got , at city well you know them B. A. D and how many they got as well . And perhaps that's what we didn't have last season , putting all your eggs in one basket is what we would be doing if we don't get another striker. Remember injuries can happen , we are gonna be playing in all competitions, players would get a bit tired e.t.c

Look, It doesn't have to be Cavani, my point is we are gonna have to give Torres competition just like every other person in the team has, we are as good as set in other positions but I feel we need a top striker to compete with Torres as they say " there is nothing like a healthy competition ". Would like to know what you guys think.....

P.S. Be nice :)

ELI

Believable6 Unbelievable4

I've read some rubbish on this site but for your post isn't one of them. Well reasoned argument. Especially about Cavani who it has to be said hasn't exactly lit any fires during the Olympics, but I agree you should never judge a player on one tournament whether he have a good one or a bad one. Need to look at the player over a season or two, not 3 or 4 weeks.

The Guvnor.

Agree0 Disagree0

See post written by James13 a few weeks ago. It is very insightful and covers this comprehensively. Old news.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cavani for me is the exact opposite to Torres, he is a solid club player and gives 100% every game, always on the move looking for the space and passes and is a great finisher. Like the original post said though, his Olympics performance wasnt great but them he has alot on his mind, like a lot of players do as the season is about to begin. He will be a great asset for Chelsea and I can see him getting lots of goals for us. Im so excited, cant wait to see Oscar play for us, Cesar and Moses coming in too, future is looking bright for the Super Blues.

Agree0 Disagree0

The main worry from my point of view re: Cavani is 90% of his goals for Napoli are on the counter attack. Napoli are a classic counter attacking team. It is very different playing for Chelsea. You generally play against 9 defenders for most of the match, especially at home. I can see a similar outcome to Wright-Philips. For some reason it didn't occur to anyone at Chelsea that SWP not having half a pitch to run into every game might affect his game and influence. Don't get me wrong, I like Cavani and would be happy to see him come. I just wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he flopped. James13.

Agree1 Disagree0

It's not only about competition for each position it's about a different type of player for each position.
What I have liked about our new players from what I've seen ie Oscar, Marin, Hazard is they don't just wait for the ball they look for it and that's the type of player Cavani is.
Hope we get him.
Drebs

Agree0 Disagree0

Eli maybe you should look at the players around the Madrid strikers! I'm not being funny but mata and ramires were the only good players around Torres and ramires doesnt assist often.

Agree0 Disagree0

To whoever said Torres is the opposite and goes on to say cavani gives 100% and is a team player, you sir are a clown. You can say many things about Fernando's shortcimgs but you can't say it's for lack of effort or that he didn't give his all for the team. Some people are clueless.
