ED002 are the stories true that barca have sent reps over to brazil to try and finalise a move for Neymar? {Ed002's Note - Nothing really changes. Chelsea have had people in America or South America all summer and there have been all sorts of discussions. Barcelona have been in and out of the picture as have Real Madrid. Folks will continue to discuss the player but it is hard to see anything changing in the short term in respect of the demands of Santos for the timing of any transfer. Everyone is aware that Santos need sponsorship money to keep both Neymar and Ganso beyond the end of the season (December). And teams will continue to try to take advantage of that.}

ED002....if you have time could you explain the situation with sponsorship money needed to keep players at santos? im assuming its all brazilian clubs? i take it finances are regulated diffrent over there {Ed002's Note - There is nothing special. Santos need to raise money to pay the wages and that is done through sponsorship. They had to do the same when Robinho was there on loan.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002 - Surely a club whether it's Barcelona, Real Madrid or yourselves could buy the player and loan him back to Santos til the club have finished with him and pay half of his wages until the loan has finished? Surely that would be enough to seal a deal? Surely there are insurances just in-case he breaks a leg or gets shot or whatever?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - It is more complicated than that Syd.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair enough mate, but we all know that if a club meets his buy-out clause then he will be theirs. So surely Chelsea should just pay this one and forget about the Modric pursuit? Sometimes you have just got to go for it haven't you Ed?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - That is not how it works Syd. The buy out clause is only enforceable under Brazilian law. What Modric pursuit?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002

But my point is that Santos have a price for him in mind, it may be an inflated price, but still a price nonetheless and it's a price that would get him if met. Chelsea could get him if they paid full price couldn't they? But it seems Chelsea are playing hardball along with Barcelona and Real to try and sign him on the cheap, but in order for Chelsea to get the initiative surely they will have to pay full price seems he favours Spain to England? What I mean is every player has his price and if Chelsea don't want to miss out on this fella too, surely they should just pay the enormous fee?

Ed, when you say "What Modric pursuit" what do you actually mean? Boas has confirmed they bid for Modric in the summer, are you saying they never? I don't quite understand what you mean. When you say you don't know anything about a bid for Modric, do you mean it never happened or you don't have any info on this subject?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Syd - there is little point in explaining the situation with Santos again and there is no simple price that can be met and the player taken. There is also a difference between a bid and a pursuit.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Afternoon Ed002, were the Modric bids tactical then? Or were Chelsea just seeing if they could get him on the cheap, but not too bothered if they never got him at all?

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - I am not going to get sucked in to discussing Modric - I have made that clear all summer; and what was publicised was not even close to what actually happened in terms of bids.}
