Chelsea have made a more definite enquiry but are yet to receive an answer either way.
Ajax are currently undergoing some restructure of their players with Arkadiusz Milik and Anwar El Ghazi both said to be on the way out this summer.
Retaining those players is thought to be crucial in convincing Overmars to stay but the 43-year-old is yet to make a decision.
If he accepts Chelsea, he is expected to move into a similar role in recruitment, working alongside Blues technical director Michael Emenalo.
