* Seems Chelsea have agreed a deal with Real Madrid for Eden Hazard according to Fabrizio Romano whom I think is very reliable.

* Chelsea indeed appealed to CAS (which comes with freezing the ban) but there's growing fears around the club that if Chelsea lost the appeal, the ban could be extended to 3 transfer windows that's according to Matt Law.

What is the source of us appealing to CAS? I feel like we are just going to take the ban, but this could change a lot if we did appeal.

We could be spend happy and target players like Icardi, Pepe etc. It could also signal a change of heart with our decision to back Sarri, meaning that he may opt to stay instead of heading to Juve. It could also hint that a manager like Allegri is incoming rather than super Frank.

Just feel like an appeal to CAS is opposite of everything I've read in the last weeks and could potentially implicate us having some major major news upcoming. I apologize for being skeptical Obinna (:

Matt, the source of Chelsea appealing to CAS is Matt Law of the Telegraph. We appealed to CAS but haven't moved to get the ban frozen (pending when the judgment of the appeal to CAS arrives) cos of fear that if we loose the appeal to CAS, the ban might be extended to three seasons (cos of trying to delay the ban) .

To be honest, asides Kovacic's transfer, I am not expecting any activity in this transfer window or the winter transfer window at least till we get the judgement from CAS.

Why do we need to request the ban frozen when the appeal is us saying “ we are not guilty “ and the punishment is the ban? They can’t punish us until proven ( again ) we are guilty,

Obinna, if we successfully get the ban frozen, I think we will make a strong push for 2-3 signings to revamp our team. I fully believe that we have our targets identified and have held informal talks if the expectation is to buy during the CAS investigation. If I'm wrong, which I very well could be, then I think the club wants to get the ban over with ASAP.

Matt, I am not sure how the request to suspend the ban works. I don't think that there is any way that we get through this without a 2 window punishment. I think it'll be up to the club when we serve it however (serve now or after the appeal) . I still find it a bit odd that we can sign players younger than 16, which is probably what got us in this mess in the first place!

From what I've gathered freezing the ban isn't difficult or complicated, I think the issue is losing the appeal to CAS after we must have gotten the ban frozen; that would mean more punishment (3 suspended transfer windows), honestly 3 transfer windows would be very costly.
There are a lot of factors that the club might have considered or is considering but one thing that I am guessing is that most of our transfer targets are in high demand (other clubs too that have money to spend are interested in them) that means, getting them in this window will mean paying so much but if we are patient till next season we would have been able to: incorporate some of our young players, change the ones that don't blend in and also get some of our transfer targets at a descent price.
There are actually a lot of good reasons why we should just sit out this transfer ban. Honestly, it could affect us cos other teams, would have fortified in those two windows (worst case scenario, we might not qualify for the UEFA champions league next season) but I think going forward, we will be at an advantage. In football nothing is certain and you never can tell but I think the best thing is sign Kovacic and sit out this ban, if CAS favours us, then maybe we can use the winter transfer window but if not we wait till next season.

If we got the ban froze then invested this summer, we could sign players now long term targets who arrive in next window. Like we did with Pulisic, be helpful hey, but yeah I’m not sure on it all except other clubs got through this yet we seem to be punished more so.

I really enjoy hearing the different perspectives and I anxious to see what the true outcome will be. Ominous times ahead, but I think we'll manage. For all we know, this ban could totally restructure the club for the better!

Matt_24. I think this ban will very much shape our 3rd 'era' under Roman - the 1st being pre Champions League win; the 2nd being post Champions League. the Eden Hazard era, I suppose!
