ed018, what are the chances of us making a move for Adam Johnson? we have no width what so ever in the team and he would surely bring some British flair {Ed018's Note - there have been some suggetions of Johnson being a possible target going around for the last week. im not sure that City want to sell him or would be open to selling to a rival though. as far as chances of chelsea making a move, i really don't know. i haven't heard any good information on it}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Find out if you can, its an area i feel we are lacking in big time m8

Agree0 Disagree0

He is liverpool bound....Kaka will come though

Ed018, Why is Gourlay saying that the Chelsea faithful should not expect any more signings when Chelsea have made it perfectly clear that they are in the market atleast for a playmaker? {Ed018's Note - don't believe everything you read}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

He did not say this why do people read the headlines and not the article he was talking about players leaving

Agree0 Disagree0

I've had enough of all this speculation, when we gunna actually see some new faces?

Ed, is it true that Jose Mourinho wont include Kaka in his plans? Or is real madrid actually willing to sell? If yes then do you think there is a possibility his wages could be reduced to an amount chelsea can accept? {Ed018's Note - i haven't heard anything about Mourinho's plans for Kaka. I guess anything is possible but i'm not to sure i'd want Kaka at this point in his career, do you}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

ED018 what do you make of gourlays comments that him and avb will sit down and talk? what have they been doing in asia ? dont you think they are leaving it late to buy players with the season starting in 2 weeks? {Ed018's Note - im sure there has been plenty of discussions about potential targets that are not revealed to the media. i would have liked to have seen some players bought by now that will have an immediate impact but it hasn't worked out that way, and it hasn't been for a lack of trying}

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest with you, we keep focusing on youngsters alot. I feel we get unlucky with their growth or development sometimes. I feel the squad we have are all experienced and have given alot for the team. So a player with kaka's mentality wont be a problem for 2 years or 3 with the blue as they all are at the same level of mentality. Just my opinion. We got deco 30 and we won the double. I love my club and i would prefer 25 million on kaka rather than 35-40 million on modric..every year a new talent shows up like pastore etc... Just my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

But do you still think we will buy player ed018 that will make an immediate impact? {Ed018's Note - i think so, its obvious we need a playmaker, whether they are an attacking mid or a winger we need one, so im sure they will continue to try and bring in what they believe they need}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hell yeah kaka is quality

this is the reason we dont need to buy Courtois (19) bertrand (21) Patrick van Aanholt (20) david luiz (24) wallace (17) lucas paizon (17) Josh McEachran (18) Ramires (24) Oriol Romeu (20) Ga l Kakuta (20) Daniel Sturridge (21) Gael Etock (18) we got more good youngsters but these are the best ones i think looking at these we got to have the best youth in england and can see why if the club dont want to spend because it will stop these talents coming through .looking at these players give me a beacon of hope .for years ive heard us fans moan we got no youth now were giving them a chance by not buying ready made 28 year olds its got to be a blessing in disguise as now this rule spend what you earn nonsense is around the corner . i do Believe we need 2 players signed a winger and creative /attacking midfielder and were fine for years to come see chelsea fans its not all bad i think this transfer window has proved which of us are Optimists or pessimists cheer up and lets get a blue Ribbon back on that prem trophy .

Believable9 Unbelievable2

Have u seen any of these play in the prem apart from the obvious ones?

Agree0 Disagree0

We have no width, no creative magic these players are for the future, future not now.

Agree0 Disagree0

We only need a winger mcearchan is creative enough and ramires is only gonna get better. Lampard mcearchan ramires next seasons midfield I'd be delighted

Well from todays news it is clear that chelsea will make an offer for modric around 40m.
But i doubt do we really need to spend 40m on Modric.He is gppd player but is worth for 40m, personally i believe no he isn't.
I would suggest rather giving 35m to sniejder and use extra 5m for his high wages OR another best option is get Nasri for 18m(Remember he has only one year left n he wants first team football and some titles) juan mata for 15m(release clause 13.5m n he needs champion league football) n with extra 5m spending get hazard for 12m.
Nasri is gud player n he has already proved for arsenal while hazard n mata r very gud wingers which we always lacked.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

I'm with you on Modric. At that price I would rather scrap a move and send Spurs a message that we wont be held ransom and when more of their players put in requests to leave next year when they win nothing, AGAIN, they'd regret turning down such a generous offer from Chelsea. I don't see why you'd keep a player who openly admitted he had a desire to play for a bigger, better team? I think that it's pretty clear Nasri is just looking for more money from Arsenal; he would be silly to join City and I'm not sure Arsenal would even want to sell to rivals in England. A very good, proven player, though. I don't think Mata is a prime target from what the Eds have said, but I agree that at the price we could get him for it may be a bargain - who knows though? PL is more physical than Spain and he is so far unproven as far as that goes. Same with Hazard.. fantastic player, but seems settled and another good year will do him a world of good in a League where he can develop. I think that when Hazard does go, 12m may be a bit low though, depending on if he moves this summer (which I see as unlikely), or next summer after another promising season.

Agree0 Disagree0

How is tht clear? It is just more speculation, I honestly dont think Chelsea rate Modric as highly as Spurs do.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's clear because although he (Nasri) has said he is maybe open to a move, Arsenal haven't been in serious contact with anyone.. or there have been no firm reported moves. All I hear from people is 'stalled' talk. I've heard this many times before, where it usually means a player searching for more money. I believe one of the ed's has stated they believe something similar, or along those lines. When Fabregas leaves, him and van Persie are their main superstars. And with Modric I feel the same as you. He had a good season, no doubt.. but £35+m is more than Barca paid for Villa Yes, it was a different market then, but still.

With all these super rich clubs thesedays, surely the financial fair play rules will need to be either tweaked a bit or scrapped alltogether. I read somewher a few weeks back that the top clubs are already in early stage talks to create thier own "european league". If true this would surely hit Uefa hard. Is this a genuine possibilty or just a unlikely rumour?

apart form modric, now the pastore chase is over thanks to PSG, who would be another attacing midfield target, because ive heard rumours that real madrid will offer us kaka for 25million euro's is this true?

Believable3 Unbelievable3

He must be on 1 hell of wage, doesnt seem likely to me mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets go get nasri Better than Modric and youunger

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Nasri can play centrally and on the wing and does also score goals himself unlike modric.

Chelsea to raid Spain this week by talking to Barcelona for Thiago Alcantara.
Barcelona need cash to help land their targets and Chelsea can offer up to £25 Million.
Chelsea also looking at wingers...

Don't believe a word Gourlay says. Abramovich will speak to Andre and act if needed. Abramovich has become quite good at recognising when investment is needed

Believable1 Unbelievable5

Would love this to be true Thiago is a great talent. Im not sure he is a perfect fit for the prem but with a bit of 'tuition' from Mikel, Ramires and Essien im sure he would do fine

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh god let it be true

Agree0 Disagree0

He would be perfect, he was linked to Chelsea earlier in the transfer window, it shouldn't be forgotten however he recently signed a new Barca contract and has a 90 million Euro release clause (I know it's meaningless outside Spain, but it does imply they intend to keep him). I'm already concerned enough about the buy back clause in Oriol Romeu's contract, I can see a Cesc saga unfolding for him in a few years. We should sign Joao Moutinho and Moussa Sissoko both high quality players who lack the Barca baggage (please note I'm not anti-signing Barca players, ideally I'd add Thiago and Rafa Alcantara, Oriol Romeu, Gerard Deulofeu, Marc Muniesa, Albert Dalmau and Andreu Font s to our squad, all La Masia grads, all future Barca stars).

Hey Ed, goal.com is reporting that gourlay has said that there will be no more players coming in for chelsea this summer, i believe that this will be a huge mistake as we need a good playmaker and right-back. What are your thoughts ed? {Ed002's Note - I have none on this. Later in the week there are discussions planned.}

Believable2 Unbelievable2

ED002 did you actually say no more signings i thought he only said he does not expect players to leave? {Ed002's Note - I didn't say no more signings and I have no real interest in any report from the web site about what RG may or may not have said.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry that last post was meant to say did he actually say that 'typo' error RG contradicts himself a lot he was the one who said 2 signings in 10 days, what will be the talks at the meeting ed02? will AVB state the players he would like to come in? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea at all. I know that there will be a gathering of the tribes later in the week.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Tribes? will the south american team be present? Also will Roman be there? {Ed002's Note - I don't know.}

Agree0 Disagree0

What is RG's job exactly ed02? {Ed002's Note - He is the Chief Executive of the club.}

hey ed, could you tell me if the following players are in the plans for next season please: kakuta, bertrand, sturridge, clifford, McEachran?
brian {Ed002's Note - It is too early to say who will be going on loan but I am confident that Bertrand will. Sturridge will stay and we will need to see about the others.

31 Jul 2011 16:04:16
ED whats happening with de bruyne? and did we at all bid for aguero seemed it was very straight forward for city to sign him? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - Chelsea met with Aguero's representatives in the middle of June but it was not possible to agree an acceptable package for the player. de Bruyne wants first team football but does not want to be loaned out - perhaps one for next year, but it is not looking good for this season.}

ed002 are you a chelsea supporter or just kind in donating your time to help us with rumours?

also what do you think will happen with Josh McEachran, loan/off the bench/starter? if you do think he would be loaned where do you think he will gain the best experience?

cheers heaps mate

Melbourne CFC {Ed002's Note - I am a Chelsea supporter. Depending on who arrives, I expect there is a good chance JM will go out on loan. I don't know where.}

ed reports saying drogba will be leaving as villas boas doesnt see him as important player
which cud b true as were after lukaku
any truth {Ed002's Note - If Drogba leaves it will be his decision. The only formal approach was an offer from Galatasary involving Arda Turan.}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Yeah can we go bact to that gala offer
looks good deal {Ed002's Note - Much would depend on whether or not AVB is interested in Arda and whether Drogba wishes to move to Turkey.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Is Arda a good player? I havnt seen a lot of him but from what i remember he is good for the league he is in but not so good as to walk into a top team??

Agree0 Disagree0

And he is 24 so not really the young up and comer, or the superstar most people are expecting....

Agree0 Disagree0

I think one of our problems last season was not having a real game-changing, impact substitute. Drogba can start a game just as well as he can come on and change it. I think we should keep him if we can, try to avoid Turan and just get cash if anything is to be done. I can only see Turan as a mediocre squad player at a top team. I like that we have given Drogba the option as well; shows a respect for one of our best players of the last few seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2011 14:02:44
Bring in bale and Modric 65m +drogba.sad to see him go but he has only one year left in him.Would also like falcao and hulk maybe as alternative to other two.Or cheaper options would be hazard and mata.how can Ron gourlay say we don't need strengthening from last year.Incase he's forgot we fell short in every competition.I think defensively we are solid also with holding midfield.We just lack pace to counter attack teams.

Believable3 Unbelievable7

31 Jul 2011 13:46:10
Sounds like we are back in for kaka of all people.. IMO this is a step in the wrong direction as we will only get one to two seasons out of him and he's nothing like he used to be barely even a Madrid squad player anymore . Personally I think Chelsea should try to sign thiago alcantra as he seems an ideal lampard replacement with a great boot and has a good deal of creativeness. Anyways Your thought random people... {Ed018's Note - i wouldn't read to much into the kaka stories}

I wanted Guus as manager but when AVB was appointed I wasn't too dissappointed and am prepared to support him while our manager.

But 1 thing bothering me is our inability to attract the top players. I cant help but think if we had Guus or Jose at the helm we would have signed 1 maybe 2.

We need, IMO, at least 2 to give our team more youthful energy. Up front we are fine, in goal we are fine, but we could do with a RB and a future Lampard replacement. I would love to see VDW and Alacantara, both going to be world class players

I know Ron Gourlay recently said no more ins but he is full of rubbish. Is there any chance of this?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

When did Gourlay say no more ins?

Agree0 Disagree0

He did not say no more ins he said he thinks theyre may be noone leaving but a few youngsters may leave on loan

Agree0 Disagree0

Our inability to attract 'top' players as you call them has nothing to do with AVB being the manager. If you are referring to Aguero and Pastore it is a purely monetary situation, Chelsea just won't pay a ridiculous wage.

What are your thought on Toni Kroos as a possible cm option? He seems like the new frank lampard, powerful long range shooting and great passing range but with some added speed and skill. Do you think he would be open to a move to chelsea and how highly do you rate him as a player. Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Kroos is a good player but I don't think he would be very keen on coming to Chelsea at the moment anyways it's not like hes going to come cheap anyways

Agree0 Disagree0

He isnt that fast..... but i would love him to come, he is a great playmaker, and very dangerous in and around the edge of the box My ideal 2-3 singings now would be him and two fast skillfull wingers, like Adam J, Hulk, Hazard etc etc, i think with Kroos behind the striker, two good CMs (of which we have plenty) and two good wingers we would have a fantastic team.
Kroos isnt the best defender though which i think would be brought into sharp focus in the prem where you need to be able to defend no matter where you play.

Kaka is still a possibility? Was in Madrid towards end of last season and saw a couple of Madrid training sessions, kaka is still world class and for me was best Madrid player including R9. Would be amazing to see him at The Bridge, downsides are injuries, wages, and possibly age

Chelsea need players who want to wear the shirt not just money grabbers i.e Pastore and Aguero if we signed players like this we would miss the heart and the putting life on the line attitude that Terry embodies

Ed boys u r legends

Believable1 Unbelievable6

I was thinking the same thing. Kaka on his best day is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world and if AVB can get him to show the same form that won him the FIFA world player award then I'm certain we can wrestle the 2 manc sides for the title this year

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will increase the club's offer to Tottenham for midfielder Luka Modric to around £40m after Paris Saint-Germain thwarted their efforts to sign Argentine midfielder Javier Pastore. Source: Metro 31 July 2011

Believable2 Unbelievable10

God i hope this isnt true

Agree0 Disagree0

Turan, marin, neymar should be the players we should be focusing on. Modric is good, great energy, vision etc....but not worth 40mil. Pastore would have been my first choice, but as a world class player with ambition, you either choose spain or england to play your football. He will collect a fortune in france for two years and then leave for spain. A player with that mindset is not what we want at chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

This was my initial post and I also hope that this isn't true. Readknapp is someone who I always thought was down to earth when it came to football and transfers and as he is cockney would always know a good deal. However the s**t stupid valuation that he has on this ok player is an absolute pisstake modric has only scored one or two quality goals in his career and i don't think that he has enough creativity in him to match up to some of europes other young talents.

As we have now lost out on Javier Pastore is there a possibility that we could go in for Thiago Alacantara? AVB is a huge admirer of his, with fabregas likely on his way to barcelona and the recent arrival of alexis sanchez thiago has dropped down the pecking order. He is an amazing talent and would be alot cheaper than Pastore both in transfer and wages. He has also expressed his desire to play football and become great whether that be at barcelona or somewhere else. Ed what are your thoughts on him and the likelyness we may bid for him. thanks {Ed02's Note - I am not going to speculate right now, sorry.}

Believable7 Unbelievable0

He recently signed a new contract with Barca which has a ridiculously high buy-out clause.

Agree0 Disagree0

Iniesta, Xavi< Sanchez and Fabregas if he signs all play in his position of cm or cam, doesnt matter if hes signed up, he wants 1st team football and a 22.5m feeler bid would be a good place to start.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barca is not going to sell him.

I really hope rumours arent true that were bidding £40m for modric :( hes a very good player worth around £25m max. Why werent we bidding when Mesut Ozil went for £13.1m and Nuri Sahin went for £6.5m :(

Hi ed,

Is there any chance of Chelsea going back in for Arda Turan or Joao Moutinho? i was hoping for pastore but he is of course a no go.

And who is the other mystery club going after Alan Dzagoev you talk about? I've said it before, i'll say it again- We really need Dzagoev.

Out of players leaving I feel Anelka, Zhirkov and Bosingwa will all leave with Malouda staying despite the club saying he can leave. {Ed02's Note - The club looking at Dzagoev back in March/April was Arsenal.}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

After the game this evening do you really think we need to bring in that many more players.
