Regarding the management situation at Chelsea FC this coming summer:

My first personal choice would be the appointment of Mourinho. It would take a hell of a lot of money to happen, but would be worth every bit of it. You have to consider, that we would have to buy him out of his contract, pay him somewhere in the region of "most in the world" and get some certain players to the squad.

My second preferred option would be diMatteo. Robbie has done a wonderful job of turning the corner abd the direction of where were we heading into a month ago. Look - he got us out of an impossible situation against Napoli, he made Torres a focal point of our attack, which is giving us instant benefits. He solved our defencive shortcomings. He made Luiz play the way we all wanted him to. He even made Kalou, Mikel and to some extent Meireles look good. What else can a man do? Make Bosingwa a world beater? Think about it for a second. If you looked at the games without knowing who the manager is, wouldn't you be pleased with this team? Or if you were told, that in fact it was Mourinho doing this particular job and not di Matteo, wouldn't you nod in acceptance? So my point is - he is doing just as good a job as any best would have done in this short time.

I do not worry about his reputation at all. His reputation grows by day. And if he takes this club to semis of CL, everyone will be talking about him. Look at the british press. When did anyone of our managers had this much backing? Probably Ancelotti after the first campaign and Hiddink in the similar circumstances. I say back the man with a few top class players and he will deliver.

The rest of options would be difficult in various ways. Guardiola - he made this Barcelona team into this particular world beater, but you have to accept that he has the best players in the world. And they go and win the Euros with Aragones and WC with del Bosque. He has got the best part of this generation of spanish internationals under his guidance. He has never managed outside Spain and in fact never has done it outside of Barca. He is a top coach, nevertheless. But look, if Barca gave him the chance, why can't we give it to Robbie? Blanc. Don't really know what to expect. Bordeaux played some good football under him, but i can't say they were hard to beat in CL stages a few seasons back. He has revitalized les Bleus and i would prefer it stays that way. Cappelo. You can't do a long term with him, but he certainly is most logical name Premier League experience wise and reputation wise. If he could come and work with Robbie, that would be amazing. But i do think that there would be a lot of interest in RDM come summer. Capello and Zola would be great too.

To sum it all up - Mourinho is like the school time love. You have the best of memories and always would like a chance of a second go. But unfortunatelly it never works out in the way you have expected it to. Robbie is too much of a low profile for the liking of our owner and that is the problem. We are always looking for someone everone talks about, but hardly look at whom we have got ourselves. Steve Clarke, Brendan Rodgers and now RDM.

I hope we make a wise and calculated choice.

Very good post, I also think unless we can get Jose back give Robbie the job the bloke was a legend as a player and I feel he can become one as a manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

Robbie has gotten the team to play, obviousily learnt from AVB's mistakes, but can he shape a new team to play his style of football?

someone like joachim low would be my preference. can shape and make a new/young team play.

mourinho would be great but I just can't see him leaving Real right now.

Guardiola - cant seem him leaving, can he come to a new league and completely build a team? at barcelona its pretty much a conveyor belt that he has been part of for yeras.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the majority of people will want mourinho back, myself included! but another manager i like, who is underated and would deserve a shot at the big time is martin o'neill...hes british has an aura of authority and is well respected...if he hadent taken the job at sunderland i would have liked to see him at chelsea

Obviously both Martin O'Neill and moyes are the british managers who are overdue a "big position". But on the other hand, - why go for them? Or national team managers like Blanc and Low, who have never managed in the big leagues or had any success in European club competitions?

Gentelmen, we have identified our problems all season long. We are expected to make quite a few changes to our playing staff this coming summer, so we challenge for the league rather, than fight for fourth. And surely none of these problems were RDM related.

We won't find a manager who has the insight of EPL, is an english speaker, with international pedigree, winning record, CL winning credentials, an authority among the players and staff, command over press room and the love of fans. Those all features only apply to one man - Mourinho.

But you just can't mortgage everything to get the man. If the club is not held ransom and if he is able to make the board comfortable with the decision, then it is a no brainer. But what if isn't. What if he is happy where he is?

Then my thinking is, that we shouldn't go for a plan b, c, d, e or whatever, because we are going to lose a well loved manager at our club in di Matteo and probably end up with another AVB is heart breaking.

If the owner wants us to emulate Barcelona (which i am not fond of, really), then he should get their crew and come to term with a plan for a few seasons and stick with it. Coz only they will be able to do it and not some mickey from porto.
