ED001 have you heard on who Chelsea may be signing in the next 4 days? i noticed Macca on the liverpool page who is a very reliable source has said he expects us to spend big this week? {Ed001's Note - the only thing I have heard is Cavani, though there has been talk of a centre back I am not sure if that is reliable. I would say Cavani on his own would fit the big spending though.}

Believable8 Unbelievable3

Hasn't Cavani just signed a new contract with a 55m release clause in it?

Alright Ed's, hats off for all the great work, just want to ask you regarding the massive talk of another striker coming in and a lot of talk about sturridge and a few others going out, what's your take on the whole lot? Who would be your preferred choice of comings and goings for the last week of the transfer market?..personally I think we don't need another striker, if we keep hold of Sturridge and try to fit Moses in to playing as another choice at centre forward, I think we will have enough options. Plus im sure Lukaku will keep up the good performances at the Albion this season and be welcomed back with open arms come next summer, now Torres is up and running with players around him that suit his style of play the last thing we need is a Cavani or Falcao to come in and upset his rhythm, thanks Irish Blue

Seeing as Cavani has signed a new deal with Napoli, Chelsea are most likely going to step up their interest in Hulk. Although RDM has said no more players are to be signed this transfer window it's quite obvious Chelsea do need a good striker although Torres is firing, possible injuries/suspensions are a worry. Hulk is normally used as a winger but could do a job up top on his own with his strength & pace. Another striker Chelsea could be looking at is Klaas Jan Huntelaar who has phenomnnol goal scoring record and good experiance.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Hunteallar is amazing in all the lesser leagues but he sucked in spain, so i guess hell suck in the physical prem.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suck in the physical prem? im pretty sure huntelaar can hold his own considering hes up around 6 foot and quite strong.

Rumours in Italy, that Cavani has signed a new deal with Napoli, with a 55mil euro buy-out clause. I would assume now that he is now not an option. Looks like Hulk is the only one left, and he looks more likely to be joining Zenit...

Interesting times ahead.

PR!

Believable1 Unbelievable7

Hulk won't join Zenit end of.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty sure we are interested in Jovetic as well

Agree0 Disagree0

Falcao is now our No.1 target

Agree0 Disagree1

Buy-out clause is irrelevant.

IB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes the buyout clause is irrelevant, I was only stating a fact of his new contract, and I never said he would, but that Zenit look likely, and there's a difference between likely and definitely.

PR!

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no official confirmation on any contract been signed and the rumors circulating are saying his buy out clause is for 50mil euros which is £39.5mil, which is also the figure they told Chelsea they could buy him for supposidly. There is not a chance in hell Chelsea are going to get Falcao, he recently relesed a statement saying he will certainly not be moving from Atletico this season.

Ed 018 Have you any idea why we are being linked with a CB's in France & Italy?
Thanks
HoB {Ed018's Note - No. Not at all.}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Hmm well thats a relief, it was a report in a french newspaper rather than personter this time.
Pretty sure Barca cant afford Luiz but I wondered if Juve were back in for Ivan as a CB.

Okay, we all know what will happen now. The only movement will be OUT (Malouda, Essien, Merrieles, and a loan or two) in the next three days, followed by a last day of excitement and speculation.

Let's not ask those same stupid questions about strikers for a day or two and fingers crossed we get a good final day.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Spot on

kevinCFC

Agree0 Disagree0

Do we ? Why are we being linked with CB in Italy and France then?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well let's hop I was right because a 'CB' in will probably me a 'CB' out and I like Luiz too much to loose him.

Nathswindon

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see Essien leaving and now i'm starting to think that Meireles won't leave. Benayoun, Malouda and Kakuta for me

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we are looking for a cb because the club management believes john terry is more than less likely to be suspended for a number of games because of that racism charge.

Agree0 Disagree0

Luiz isnt for sale at any price chelsea have said that so wether were looking at a centre back or not noone is going

curt

Agree0 Disagree0

Still don't think we should sign one. Look at the quality youth we have coming through. Surprised we loaned Hutch for the season to be honest, I think he could do a job should JT get banned as the 4th CB against lesser teams.

What do people think?

Roweycfc

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe RDM will use Cahilla and Terry as 1st choice CB, and is thinking of moving Luis to DM? that would mean another CB comming as cover?

Cant see Meireles moving - he adds a little steel next to Mikel when needed, rather than the craft but less defensive capabilities of Lampard. Essien can also do that of course, but how is he after those 2 injury hit years? The only was both those two (or even one of them) will go is if we get a top qualityDM in the next 4 days - and as that has not been a priority for the club this window I dont see it happening. Posibly in the Jan window if Mikel still fails to impressm ans Essien doesnt get his old self back.

I think Malouda has no place, but whether hell move this window now? also Benayoun.

27 Aug 2012 16:36:00
Eds, do you know what shirt numbers Aspilicueta and Moses are taking? I think Azpilicueta should take 13 (popular for full backs) and Moses should have 15 if Malouda leaves or something higher like 18/32 if he doesn't. 14 should be kept for Hulk or Cavani. A big signing needs a proper number. BTW who is it that decides shirt numbers? I think Chelsea in the past have maybe not given it much consideration, eg - Sidwell and Boularouz ending up with number 9 (ridiculous). Thanks - James13. {Ed002's Note - I know nothing of shirts James. Sorry.}

Believable1 Unbelievable3

I heard the numbers would be

azpili 28
moses 33

someone getting 15 when malouda goes is a good shout.
14 is de bruyne's number and that wont change.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 is saved for Courtois i believe. 14 is KDB, 18 is Lukaku, 20 is Josh. Moses 15 would be pretty good or maybe Azpilicueta 15 and Moses 39

Agree0 Disagree0

Azpilicueta got the 28 shirt. That much I know.

No striker to arrive but surprisingly a cente back will. A cente back from Montpellier and a serbian defender from Fiorentina have both been looked at. Is Luiz off? RDM changed our playing side which is most suitable to F. TORRES.
Now we are playing with with only one striker.
Link up play between F. Torres, Hazard and Juan Mata is fantastic.
I dont see F. Torres loosing his confidence/form this season with the serices he will get from hazard, mata and oscar(do not forget him guys, give a boy some time he will be one of the best player in our squad)
The only concern will be what if F. Torres gets injured then we have onlt sturridge as our back up ( i wont consider moses as striker instead he is more a right winger)
Now there the problem comes as ...
me of you may not agree but sturridge is not a good player for link up play when he gets ball at his feet he likes to take it on his own.
Unless sturridge leaves it and start playing more team game i can not see him becoming better striker with this attacking formation.
I am not in favour of spending another 35-40 millions on either cavani or hulk but instead will go for some one like schurle
better suited to our formation
not direct competitor for torres
can play on either wing
will be cheaper in comparison with hulk/cavani
wont mind sitting on bench after looking at torres form
no wonder why chelsea actually tried to get him ....thats official news while we are intrested in hulk and cavani but no official bids were submitted.
but still it looks difficult to get schurle to chelsea.

Out of the 2 supposed strikers we are after i would much prefer cavani but i think it will be hulk thats brought in dew to him saying he wants to go to the premiere league and with the simple fact we have a group of brazilians here already . He can play as a striker or a right sided attacker ,, leaving doubts as to where ramires will play for the coming season ?A holding role maybe ? On the other hand cavani is an out and out striker with a slightly different style to torres , more of a target man i would say and i think he would relish the fight with torres for the frontman position , plus i reckon a deal with meireles to napoli could sweeten the deal . If we got the 2 of them and its a big if , sturridge would have to leave as the only 2 places he can play will be taken away by better players and he knows this .

Okay guys, can anyone tell me about Andre Schurlle? Only seen a few online clips of him, looks good quality but not a winger, needs to be down the middle.
Secondly, anyone have any suggestions for non-bias highlight programs? Match of the Day seem to hate everything about Chelsea and never credit us for good victories a la Newcastle and keep finding reasons why we were lucky to win/aren't challenging for the league this year. Can't wait to prove them wrong!
On another and final note: who would you prefer to see brought in this week?
A young striker like Schurrle who could grow and be used a substitute or in cup runs to eventually develop into our first choice striker.
A proven EPL striker who isn't getting much game time at the minute but we know can score goals, a Hernandez-esque/ Defoe-esque player.
Or a marquee signing from abroad with a proven scoring record and very hefty price-tag who would be pushing for a first choice spot, be regularly used as a substitute and be availible to fill in as first choice striker when our current one (In this case FT9) is injured.
Personally I'd prefer either the first or second option as we need that kind of striker who can score but won't mind being benched and will also not make Torres think too much about who he has behind him which will mean he keeps banging the goals in.
EH17
P.S. Wouldn't it be funny if we played the Supercup, beat AM then announced the signing of Falcao at the window deadline meaning his last game for AM was the Supercup? Extremely unlikely but would be great for pundits and papers to pick up on.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

I don't see us buying a striker who costs £40m to then have him or Torres bench warm while the other plays. A versatile winger/striker would be my choice, someone who can cover a range of positions, not only would this help out with squad depth it means that hes not just bench warming or covering one position. Jovetic or Shurrle would be my choice. £25m should be enough to get either of them and hopefully this can be done before the deadline.

PB

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah at the end of the supercup we put a Chelsea shirt on falcao give the athletico manager 30m and take him back to London
carPetman

Hulk would be my No1, a strong winger who can also play up front. No direct comp for Torres, but versatile enough to play there if there is an issue.

i see alot of people are back on the 'dont buy a striker because it will upset torres' bandwagon

we NEED back up sturridge isnt enough torres wont lose form if thats what everyone thinks if anything it will help him to keep playing well especially if hes picked as first choice over a new striker

curt

Believable7 Unbelievable7

Its not because of Torres I dont another big name striker (£30m+) it's because in all likely hood he will be sitting on the bench the majority of the season, and I would much prefer DS given a chance along with Moses and Bamford or even Hazard up top..

Out the door this week...

Malouda
Benayoun
Kakuta

In the door this week...

This one is slightly more difficult! We all know, despite Di Matteo saying otherwise, that Chelsea are in for another striker and in recent weeks the press have linked us with Cavani, Hulk, Lewandowski, Llorente and Hernandez etc.

At first my preference was leaning towards Hulk due to his ability to play wide right, but Moses has filled that particular, strong and pacey right winger, hole in the squad. Yes I know Hulk is better, but Moses aside Hulks performances are inconsistent to say the least; he would struggle on a cold December evening in Wigan. Not good for a 40 million striker!

Cavani has been the other name the press have pushed towards us the most during the summer, my personal opinion; this would be a poor move! He wants to be paid the same as the top earners at the club, which means he'll expect to start over Torres all the time! His performances at the Olympics were shocking! He'd cost 15-20 million more than players such as Lewandowski, Llorente and Hernandez! Yes he has scored a lot of goals for Napoli, but Serie A is probably weaker than all three of the Bundesliga, La Liga and the Premiership; leagues that the aforementioned three strikers all have equally good goal scoring records in!

My preference for a new striker would deffo be Hernandez, although I don't see it happening. He's Premiership proven and would fit straight into our squad.

One last point though, Everton (Jelavic) and Newcastle (Cisse) have proven that you don't need to spend 20+ million to get a striker who will score goals in the Premiership.

Apperently talks with Cavani are going to intensify due to the managerial team being over there. A fee has been agreed according to some sources however, Cavani himself wants more money in wages. Holding out for £150,000 a week. We want less. I don't know the validity of these aspects of the deal. I can definitely expect this to be a deadline day deal! {Ed002's Note - What "managerial team" would that be?}

Just shows how greedy some footballers are 150,000 a week, you know what you can do cavani!

150k so what? RVP on 250k a week and he's 29. Rooney is on 200k a week and he sucks, Cavani is worth it even though its a sick amount of money but by todays standards its normal.

The way we have been playing this season I think cavani over hulk because, we no longer need someone who can play on wing as have Marin Moses hazard mata and I think hulk is to selfish and cavani is team player, I'm big fan of hulk but cavani will do well up Torres or sure on formation we'd play with Torres and cavani

I believe it would be Torres or Cavani. Not sure they could play together in our formation.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be frightining if they two were to play together

I think it will be interesting to see how RDM integrates everyone. Personally I think Hulk is the better option than Cavani. I personally think Cavani is the better striker, even the better player but its the versatility that Hulk brings which is so important. I hope RDM doesnt keep playing Ramires on the right wing. Apart from against weaker teams and slow defences, I think he is completely wasted here. Everyone complains that the midfield 2 (Lamps and Mikel) are too slow - Ramires needs to be used where his pace and stamina will be of most use, though Im not sure whether this would be have him play defensively instead of Mikel or instead of Lamps. I honestly could imagine mikel and ramires froming the same kind of partnership as De Jong and Toure for Man city - the ball winner and the box to box. I personally cant wait to see Hazard Oscar and Mata operate as the attacking three behind Torres, though I doubt it will happen for a while because the integration of Oscar in the team will most likely leave Mata to have his deserved rest. All in all Im happy with the first 3 games, still a work in progress and Im sure we will hit a patchy spell at some point but if anything it will probably be one of the most interesting seasons in Chelsea's recent history. Nothing new here really, just sharing thoughts :)

Hi ED002 are we still pursuing a striker or will we not now sign one? {Ed002's Note - Efforts are being made.}
