Ed 001
Firstly thank for your sterling work on this page
My question surrounds the lack of an identifiable Director of football at the club which I find puzzling to say the least when even Arsenal now have that position covered.
Firstly why did Emenalo leave and secondly do the club intend appointing anyone to replace him?
Thirdly are you aware of any discernable strategy for next season bearing in mind the world cup and manager uncertaintity complicates the process of signing players?
Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - Emenalo wanted to go. They are intending to replace him yes, though it might well end up being just an internal reshuffle to shift some of the responsibilities to other people. Chelsea are always planning ahead, but the main question right now is the manager situation. Until that is sorted it will be all a little bit up in the air.}

Any chance of a comment of the managers being considered. Taking into account Ed002's detailed discussion of potential candidates for the Arsenal position, he stated that Enrique has spoken with two sides - I imagine that we are one of them. Luis Enrique would be a nightmare appointment, in my opinion.

I still can't see Sarri joining, and Carlo could very well join Arsenal, likewise with Tuchel and PSG.

Jardim a possibility? Allegri? Blanc continues to have his name banded about. Any clarification?

{Ed001's Note - what kind of comment are you after? And yes Enrique is one of the potentials.}

Who are we looking at besides Luis Enrique? Has anyone of interest been in talks with the club?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't believe there is any interest in Sarri because of his issues. He has made a number of comments of a racist and sexist nature that would not be tolerated. I should have worded that better, I know he was ruled out and I believe that those issues are why. I hope that makes more sense. Apologies I am very tired and struggling a bit to think clearly.

Allegri was certainly one of the main choices, I believe Ancelotti was ruled out as well as Jardim. I am sorry mate my mind has gone completely blank I know there are others but I can't think who. I was trying to find a quick list of current working managers in Europe to jog my memory but for some reason I can't find one other than ones working in England and I don't know of any working in the English game currently under consideration.}

Thank you for your response, Ed. The media have really been pushing for the likes of Tuchel, Sarri and Jardim and they could potentially be wrong on all three.

I really, really hope it’s not Enrique. Him, Emery, Blanc, Rodgers etc. are all some very disappointing names.

{Ed001's Note - from what I have seen of Enrique talking, I would not think he would interview well. His comments tend to be extremely bizarre.}

At this rate maybe conte staying isn’t the worst idea.

Would you know the reasons for Emenalo leaving?
From what I understand Tenenbaum has been taking a more active role in running the club in recent years so I wondered if it was connected to this?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - from what I am told, there was a bit of disagreement on the direction the club was going with regard to the way the players out on loan were integrated in the team. So he decided to leave for a fresh challenge. I get the impression he felt like the scapegoat for the lack of chances they were getting, but that is opinion only.}

Makes sense Ed 001.
What I find both puzzling and worrying is the lack of anyone who has a track record in the game at board or senior management level, the manager excluded of course.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I guess. It really depends though, I mean Arsenal had David Dein who had no track record in reality prior to Arsenal and he was excellent. It was losing him that saw Arsenal drop off the pace. So long as you have someone who understands the game it doesn't matter where they come from.}

Dein was exceptional without doubt but he did have many years of interest and experience in football administration which he brought to the table .
Deins departure definitely impacted on Arsenals success and you could argue that a knowledgeable DOF might have softened the blow of his departure.
Tenenbaum by comparison is from a corporate finance background and not a major investor/ shareholder like Dein.
One story I have heard is that Emenalo was the buffer between Conte and the board and got tired of the constant ddisagreements.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I have got you now, sorry I thought you meant track record as in playing the game before taking up the position.}

Honestly, if it's not going to be Sarri or Jardim, why get rid of Conte? Enrique is a question mark, I don't think Allegri is all that special.

I also doubt the club would be brave enough to go for the young, largely unproven Tedesco or Nagelsmann from Germany. Let's just try to get along with Conte and keep him.

You are on point Jackson, I will only sack Conte for Sarri.

Unless the Club can sit down with Conte and iron out the transfer issues which all other managers have failed to do, he will leave one way or another. Sort out the issue and i would be more than happy to see him continue. Yes, he has been found out tactically but there again there are few managers that can change a team during the game and save the day (Mourinho was one that could) . However, like Klopp, he brings, when happy, an enthusiasm that rubs off on fans and players and that has been lacking from almost day one. The Club would do well to integrate the Terry, Lampard and Drogba boys into the system to get a grip on player influence and whinging and possibly prepare Terry or Lampard as a future manager.
