Hi ed Good work on the mata deal, just one question: is there any further news on Pato or do u believe the recent rumours where just recycled from a couple of years ago? If we could get Pato or hulk in next week or so would be amazing.

Eazy {Ed002's Note - There is nothing further right now.}

Mata to chelsea. A signing that will make a difference this season all we need now is Modric, hopefully who can get the best out of torres and do decent deliveries

Mata in, now lets push for Moutinho (NOT Modric, overpriced) and possibly De Bruyne then assess our options in January. Come On You Blues
Scotty.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Moutinho is worth more than Modric according to the prices being quoted.

Modric is proven in the Premier League and at the highest level in the Champions League and is 25. Moutinho has no Premier League experience and is 24.

How can you say Modric is overpriced

Agree0 Disagree0

Moutinho is proven at a higher level, his buy out is 30 million so will be the same or less than Modric and Modric is not proven at champions league. No doubt that Modric is a good player but we can do better. I think that he is made to look good in an average Tottenham side.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moutinho's buy out clause is 35 million sterling, not that buy out clauses matter as Ed002 has explained many times before.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would lik 2 see debruyne stay and play, de bruyne, torres and mata front 3

Ed tell me if I'm being thick. Didn't mata play in the u21s this summer yet I thought he was 23. Am I missing something ? Cheers and keep up the good work {Ed018's Note - they are allowed to have a certain number of players over 21 although im not sure of the details of it}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I'm pretty sure you're eligible for u21's up to 23, maximum. Not sure on the details though - FIFA and UEFA rules are hard to make sense of.

Agree0 Disagree0

When the tournament started, he was under 21 and so was elligible from the start to finish as he was named and officially excepted by FIFA from the start.

Mata and modric by the end of the week and that will be it. Finito so stop with all the crazy names and the same old questions reworded. Cheers for all the updates ed sterling job over the summer.

Believable10 Unbelievable5

I still hold some hope for De Bruyne if he can prove his fitness.. and as far as I know, he is still a viable option this window.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he will more likely be January I don't see the need right now we have plenty of midfielders for 3 spots.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2011 18:09:06
Have heard whispers that a bid for Hulk could be made in January IF the right wing is still a problem i.e. No one performing well there. AVB wanted him this summer but Porto were not allowing him and Falcao leave but Chelsea scouts will be watching his progress.

Mata deal is done, region of 25million with a 5 year contract. He has already had meetings with AVB.

Ed, do you think our right side attacking options are sufficient enough in your opinion?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2011 17:09:16
ed when we sign mata do you still expect us to persue modric, or should we try for neymar or another striker and what is the chances of kaka {Ed018's Note - chances for kaka are very slim, i expect another bid for Modric}

Believable5 Unbelievable2

21 Aug 2011 16:13:14
edd, do you think Chelsea will table a bid for Ganso on his own without a neymar connection? {Ed002's Note - Possibly.}

Believable9 Unbelievable3

21 Aug 2011 15:53:20
ed, what are the chances of us moving for Tevez? He is on the bench today for city I wonder why? {Ed002's Note - Very slim.}

Believable1 Unbelievable10

I wouldn't play a player who's openly said they desire to leave if I had attacking options like David Silva, Aguero, Dzeko, Johnson etc etc. I hope he goes to Madrid - hopefully that would free up Neymar a little if he remains a viable option and his stupid demands can be negotiated on.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2011 15:38:48
To all these people that keep saying Sturridge can't play on the right wing because he is left footed, do you guys not remember our most potent wingers, Robben and Duff?

Both were left footed, but both could play right and left wing and tore defences apart on their day no matter what wing they were playing on.

Therefore all this rubbish about not being able to play a left footed player on the right wing is just that, rubbish

Believable9 Unbelievable1

The difference being is that Duff & Robben were both naturally wide players

Agree0 Disagree0

Malouda and Mata are both naturally wide players, and Sturridge has proven in pre season that he can play out wide as part of a front 3.

21 Aug 2011 15:28:39
Would the purchase of Mata end any interest in Hazard? {Ed002's Note - I refer you to earlier answers.}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Ed, that answer takes longer to write then a straight forward yes, no or maybe. {Ed002's Note - Right, but hopefully it gives the chance for the person to get used to looking rather than expecting me to keep answering the same questions over and over again. I am having a search facility added.}

Agree0 Disagree0

You have a point :P By the way thank you very much for youtaking the time to share your knowledge, this has been a site I check everyday over this transfer period, and look forward to reading your insights. {Ed002's Note - I think the search feature will help a lot.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes indeed.

Agree0 Disagree0

When do you think you will add the search feature? Useful. But it doesn't answer questions, like when someone types a question, it's just would come out with random answers {Ed002's Note - Soon. But as you say, it doesn't answer questions. It is not some sort of magic device. It also doesn't make coffee.}

Ed, wquld it be to much to ask for to chelsea to buy a right winger aswell as mata. say a hazard? {Ed002's Note - Aside from Sturridge, Mata can play on the right.}

Believable5 Unbelievable2

If you watched the game yesterday we were poor down both wings. I really disagree with playing a left footer on the right. Teams will just show him keep him on his right foot and sturridge will not be able to get to the bar line and cross a ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ive said this numeroud times if you look at the top teams they have 3 quality players in each position, Kalou is not up to par what so ever and Malouda isnt a quick or very effective winger in my opinion. Mata and Sturrdige (A striker who has said he wants to play a central role) will be our only real attacking options. Hazard would be perfect i hate the fact we may lose out on a player of his ability when our Head Scout who is leaving at the end of his contract next year is advising against it. I would love to no what talent this head scout has identified cause i havent seen any young future purchases that have been linked to his recommendations but i may be wrong.

PB

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge played really well in pre season from the wider right role. AVB likes to play wide strikers, players who can run down the line but also attack the goal and score a couple, like hulk. Sturridge seems perfect for this really, as long as he doesnt start coming to deep like Anelka tends to do he should be a fantastic player from that position. I am really looking forward to his return

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, If we get Mata then Malouda will act as decent cover but its that right wing im worried about. Man United have Valencia, Nanni and now Young. Spurs have Lennon and Bale, Arsenal have Walcott and Arshavin and Liverpool have Downing and now that Maxi. All teams have the ability to stretch there opposition and not become flat. Chelsea are at present quite easy to do a job on by quite easily packing the centre of midfield out. We are way to narrow and I do not expect to see a major difference with just the 2 signings of Modric and Mata. We desperatley need a right winger to challenge. {Ed002's Note - Saying the same thing over and over again does not help at all though.}

Agree0 Disagree0

To PB,

The Head Scout (who I believe is Hans Gilhaus) obviously knows a hell of a lot about scouting otherwise he wouldn't be the Head Scout at one of the world's leading clubs. While everyone is saying we should be signing Hazard, have you sat back and thought why there doesn't seem to be any interest from any other top clubs apart from Arsenal. Do you think that maybe it's because the other top clubs have identified the same problems as our Head Scout?

In any case I trust the head scout (who came to Chelsea highly recommended by Frank Arnesen I do believe) and don't see any reason to question his judgement.

Agree0 Disagree0

With all due respect Frank Arnesen has left the club now after wasting millions apon millions of pounds on "talented" youth and the academy and to show for it what do we have? McEachran is a british home grown player... kakuta who got us banned from transfer for a year who by all means was meant to be the next big thing has vastly failed to deliver so far, Franko Di Santo who cost £3-£4m and is now at Blackburn doing nothing and what about the leeds boys who we "tapped up" there both gone of free transfers. Im bassing my opinion of his ability on results and so far i see a sub par job from a man who we havent given a contract extension and are letting walk away from his job in a year. From what ive heard HE is the guy oppossed to Eden hazard over his personality and isnt making a judgement on his footballing ability, and as ive said i wudnt trust his judgement after a list of talented youngsters being bought for high prices then being shipped out on loan or let off on free transfers.

PB {Ed002's Note - I assume that you are not a Chelsea supporter and certainly have no idea what has happened with the academy and with the scouting.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont like all this "he CAN play on the right" stuff" even though hes left footed etc, we should buy players for the correct position not try and use them elsewhere, zhirkov was a good player if he was played where he was supposed to instead of CM

Agree0 Disagree0

alot of reports saying that a 24million pound deal has been accepted by valencia for juan mata, he will get 55k a week, and he will wear the number 10 shirt.

i also think they'll be a bid for modric on deadline day something in the region of 30million + benayoun or any other player that wants out

ed, i was also a little bit disepointed yesterday, lukaku wasn't even included on the bench, i can't wait to see him

{Ed002's Note - I don't know if Lukaku's international clearance has arrived yet.}

ed were being linked with storari for n0 2 gk any truth {Ed002's Note - I doubt it. JUventus are probably just offering up a few unwanted players as part of the deal for Alex. I don't know how old Storari is but he has been around for ages and must be in his 30s now.}

Eds, I find it very useful to have mata as there will be comfort and understandin with torres as they both play for Spain. However, i find modric a great asset for their assistance. I just wanted to know, is it basically the Transfer Fee that is slowing it down, because i dont see it going to deadline day. Redknapp needs new players if modric leaves. So i see a high chance of it happening 2 or 3 days before the deadline {Ed002's Note - I am sorry, I can't help you over Modric.}

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Bit more news on the Mata deal. Spanish Media outlet Marca has reported -

Mata and Chelsea have already come to an agreement over personal terms, with the player receiving a five-year contract worth over 3M per season. Villas-Boas made a personal request for the transfer, and Mata will be wearing #10 in the Premier League. For Valencia, the transfer is done, with only some questions about the nature of payments left to resolve.

Looks like the signing is almost done and one thing to really consider is hes reported to be earning £55,000 a week. In todays market i really respect the player and his agent for not being greedy.

PB

Believable19 Unbelievable0

The Spanish players in general do seem to be less greedy regarding wage demands. Whereas South Americans especially Argentines are greedy little buggers

ED you know that. Chelsea have been looking at people to sign next summer like Subotic and M'Vila do you think that they would move for them this summer if another club moves for them this window or the January window ?

Ed, Who is deciding on the transfer targets at the club at the moment? I was expecting AVB a former scout to pick out some real gems, but at the moment they appear club led.

Thanks in advance. {Ed002's Note - There is no one person who decides. AVB certainly has an input whereas Ancelotti had very little at all.}
