Credible reports coming out of Italy that the club is "close" to agreeing a deal for Rudiger with Musonda being involved in some way.

This backs up what I was saying yesterday, the club are taking the easy and cheap option by going for him as opposed to competing for the likes of Marquinhos and Stones with Laporte nearly in at City. This is what I meant when I said about ambition, every time it is the easy and cheaper option when it comes to talking about recent transfer policy.

The club can be linked with players, such as having discussions with Atletico over Griezmann or Juventus over Pogba. One thing is having discussions, another thing is getting the player. It seems we don't want any competition when we go to sign a player and our recent execution is poor.

There may be reasons why a whole host of the worlds top clubs are not desperate to sign Rudiger and that Roma consider him expendable. Jose spoke years ago about eggs and omelettes. Rudiger is a class b egg with all due respect and Marquinhos and Stones (regardless of recent form) are or will be class A.

Rudiger is a physical specimen of a player, long term a player such as Marquinhos or Stones would be better suited to partner Kurt Zouma if Christensen is not coming back.

What also bothers me is that the club seem to have an anti English policy when it comes to signing players. For an English club, that is not right. Gary Neville spoke about the importance of clubs having homegrown spines. Barcelona, Man Utd, Bayern and Juventus are all examples with Man City and even Arsenal moving towards having more homegrown players in their squads, even if it means slightly overpaying.

Although the top English players are overpriced, looking at the long term, a player such as Stones would be a player the club could build around.

Obviously the club don't consider an English spine to be important because buying certain players from abroad is cheaper than having to compete in bidding wars.

At some point, the club are going to have to take the plunge. Next season we could have a starting eleven with no English players in it going by who we have been linked to and the affinity that has been built with players such Terry, Lampard Ashley and Joe Cole will not have been replaced.

What a load of nonsense, contradictions and waffle. you're probably the type of person who would moan if we did sign stones as he's "over rated" when we could get a young German international much cheaper.

Took the words out of my mouth JustCallYouDave. The way stones played this season he isn't fit to lace zouma's boots! I'm all for buying players for there talent not there nationality. Being home grown is a secondary bonus.

Fine, you just wait and see what happens during the course of the window. I know when it comes down to it, I will be right.

If you are content with second best and trying to get back to where we were, whilst trying to penny pinch our way there on the cheap, then fine. Just don't moan when we are not challenging next season. Leicester are the exception, not the rule.

If by some miracle, we competed for and signed John Stones, I would be delighted. It has been made clear it ain't going to happen due to Man City or United getting there first, again, so there is no point in even thinking about it.

You know what, it is not worth posting because if you express an opinion, your accused of talking "waffle" and "nonsense", all because some numpty disagrees with you. Sorry I do not have the infinite knowledge about football which you seemingly have.

While we are at assessing personality characteristics, you're probably the type of person who is overly judgemental and one who deals only in "facts". This is not Wall Street, it is a site for discussion, so bore off.

What do we know until the player is given a chance. Leicester proved the best players do not always make the best team. Whoever the club buy, I'm sure we will all support whoever wears the Chelsea jersey and if they are not good enough then again someone will replace them and so on. Regarding a English spine, I read somewhere that our dominant youth team that won the youth champions league are all eligible to play for England, so maybe 3-4 could make the first team in the years to come.

I can understand your want for English players but spending bucket loads on someone because of their nationality is absurd. I see what you mean that Rudiger may be too similar to zouma and I agree I'd love to have a Marquinhos laporte type partner him, but who's to say christensen doesn't partner him long term and maybe even jake clarke salter or tomori. Being linked to rudiger doesn't mean the club are making a huge mistake does it and who knows the lad rudiger might be class. I think that you need to stop assuming the worst possible scenario and chill man.

Considering Rudiger starts more often then not for the German national team, surely speaks for the player. Give him a chance before putting him down as i often see in this forum.

WestUpper it's your opinion pal and that's what this site is all about don't take to heart what others reply bak that's there opinion. I agree with you on most things the last few years we've been shy on top targets and gone for the less expensive hope he turns into a star kind of signing but sometimes they do work look at the premiership winners this year there's a few in that squad. To me I don't think stones is that great and again like they say we won't get held to ransom I wouldn't pay more for him as he's English, I wouldn't say we need to be silly and blow money we need to start buying the right players, but unfortunately the right players are expensive lol the manager isn't even here yet long way to go. And breathe!

Musonda is staying at Betis for the next season on loan I believe. So that can't be right. Let's just wait and see what happens. We are linked with every Tom, Dick and Harry at the moment. I'm sure the club are working on bringing in the best possible players to enhance our squad NOW and in the future. We can't just keep going out and doing a United and City and over spend on players. Not when RA wants to build a new stadium.

There is a lot of flapping and panicking, but unless you hadn't noticed the window opens in a month. So give them a chance to do there job. As for taking cheap options until these turn up and play how can you judge. Just look at Kante, Mahrez and others. Also do you not think we have payed top dollar for several players in the past. Where are they now sold or on loan as we can't shift them.
So be careful what you wish for. It's not what they cost it's how they fit into our team and set up.

Ed, do you know what the situation with Aina is right now? Does it look like he won't sign a new deal and definitely leave the club this summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Aina's contract expires at the end of teh moneth - he will be able to join Celtic or any other club that has shown an interest.}
