{Ed022's note - Brand new Player-Profile on Alan Dzagoev of CSKA Moscow and the Russian national side. He is available on a free at the end of the year, and Chelsea have shown interest in the young Striker so is certainly a possibility. www.player-profiles.co.uk - thanks all.}

I found Eds recent comments about Chelsea realising they need homegrown players too interesting. I'm a fan of having English players in my team but when I look around at potential signings there is a severe lack of quality available. The lack of quality is made even worse when you look at the inflated price of English players; Henderson, Downing etc.

Ed is deffo right, Chelsea do need to look for home grown talent and they hopefully will, but who...Walcott? Rodwell? Barkley? Our search for homegrown talent could be one of the more interesting twists during the summer!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Ruben lotus-cheek, currently schoolboy supposed to be signing acadamy soon, England u16 captain biggest cheer before munich from me was hearing he was at chelsea. Best player at that age I've ever seen

Agree0 Disagree0

I rate Rodwell, adam Johnson, but after that is does look bleak, why play a average Home Grown when there are the likes of Ramires an Hazzard out there at a price, James Milner cleally wastd at city but can't move cause he's on mega money, we should promote our own young players, Tom

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree Chelsea have one of the best youth sides in the entire league fi nto europe players like ake chabolah todd kane theres so many more a few years and they will be ready i really wouldnt worry about the youth chelsea will bring through unfourtuanalty they wernt old enough or ready for this revamp but over the next 3-4 years they will be introduced im sure

BlueBen

Agree0 Disagree0

Correct me if I m wrong, but home grown doesn't necessarily mean that the player should be English. {Ed002's Note - That is correct.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Mceachran, Bertrand, cole, lampard, terry, turnbull. Piazon will be in 2 years {Ed002's Note - It only becomes relevant after the player is 21.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Indeed, any player who has played for the club for 3 years prior to the season he turns 22 is classed as "home grown". So basically if you sign someone at 18/19 (depending when their birthday is as its seasons end I believe that counts) will become homegrown at 22.

so - Mikel is classed as home grown. Piason, Romeu and Lukaku will be classed as home grown when they reach 22, as will pretty much any of our youth squad should they make the grade - English or not.

Currently our squad has: Terry, Cole, Lampard, Cahill and Mikel (I think thats it) who are home grown. Anyone under that age can play regardless, so we actually have plenty of "homegrown" players already.

I guess lack of quality English players (at least at sensible prices) is one reason for us signing a lot of 18/19 years olds at a price (Lukaku for instance). They will fill those must have slots in a few years. {Ed002's Note - It is not "for the club" but under the relevant FA.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Buy glen Johnson back perhaps

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance of signing Glen Johnson, hes not good enough.......bit of a liability!

Agree0 Disagree0

So if we keep lukaku at the club without loans hell be homegrown? if thats the case have him as 2nd choice behind nando, f*** it chuck him in deep end {Ed002's Note - Yes - although he can be loaned in England and Wales still.}

VDW! I hope we dont sign him. I haven't seen anything special from him in the past 3 games. Shame really, the lad's had such a good rep

WOW, i really hope we don't sign VDW, he has been poor all season and all tournament, and could of just cost them it single handed, we need either azpilcueta or debuchy, both much better and cheaper options than him

Yerp u got it spot on BLUEBOY1

I agree with you completely, but to be fair he is playing against the best footballer on the planet imo

And ED deletes the thread......... Ed I know you deleted it cause things got out of hand, so I think the fair thing to do is not to post puzzled's trash anymore. The fella comes on here not to talk about football, but to insult we the chelsea fans and Chelsea. Surely, we must reply. But, when we do the whole thing gets deleted. I know its not your fault but its not ours either. Its hard not to insult puzzled or reply to his stupid posts he has the brain of a toddler and obviously has no interest in football(inorder words he is a jobless tool). So ED I think its only fair you don't post Puzzled's trash on here to avoid things getting out of hand. Think about it, its for the best.

Oh dear - struck a chord I think

Puzzled {Ed002's Note - The bottom line is play nice. Have all the banter you want about our pies are better than yours etc. but avoid abuse of each other. I don not have the time to edit posts - so I will just delete them if I find them unacceptable.}

Hi ed- when can we expect to hear news on hulk and van see wiel? Also what are the chances of malouda, meireles and Ferreira leaving this summer?
Thanks your doing a great job also (p.s. someone on here said you were American.... Please don't tell me, if it's true, you call this sport soccer!) {Ed002's Note - I cann ot predict when you will hear anything. There is a reasonable chance any or all three could leave.}

Hey Ed, is it true Chelsea is interested in Walcott?. {Ed002's Note - I don't know of interest but the club are aware they need to be looking for home grown players as well.}

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Providing the cost was between £15-£20m I would see Walcott as good business. There is a lot of people saying he can't cross the ball but who would head it in mata,Marin,Torres or hazard all of which are not good headers of the ball anyway.Walcott should be bought in to replace Sturridge who frustrates the life out of me.He would be great as the striker but he's not going to play before Torres. Everyone shouting for hulk to sign and I see £35m as a huge gamble for a player who cannot get in brazil team also hasn't really played excellent in champions league.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please sign that post so you can be name and shamed! A. What's the point then in spending 20 million on a wide man who cant cross? B. Hulk plays regularly for Brazil... C. He is head and shoulders above a very average Porto team who aren't exactly going to do well in the champions league although I agree paying over 30 million is a massive risk for someone who's never played in a challenging league, finally D. Torres can head a ball very well providing he gets the service, he proved that many a time at Liverpool

And I'm done :)

Jus seen sturridge wants out of chelsea due to not being picked for euros because of not having regular game time any truth

Carefree {Ed002's Note - If he wants to leave the club will not stand in his way.}

Believable5 Unbelievable5

I think we should keep and buy copule of English players who has the national team potentilas. This give us more edge over the other clubs in the premiur league while yes some exceptional players from outside too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let him go i say the problem with sturridge is he thinks he's better than he is too fancy footed for me oh and he is lazy. DAN.CFC

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with dan get rid never liked him from his football brain to his big headedness for something he ain't. Ed am I right in saying that if piazon stays at Chelsea without goin on loan from 18-21 he's classed as homegrown? Plus mceachran will be home grown along with bertrand. {Ed002's Note - Yes - all three.}

Agree0 Disagree0

If we can get £12-15m for him or can involve him in a swap for a greater player then I would do so. My biggest complaint is he thinks he's bigger than the club. OUR CLUB.

Hey Ed do u have news where Drogba will most probably be playing next season? Is it with the Chinese or the Arabs :) or could he surprise us and end up in la liga

J. {Ed002's Note - I was told a couple of days ago there is no decision yet. There is a problem stopping him choosing China at the moment (but that could be resolved) and there is an option to go the the United States, but not until after the New Year.}

I really hope we do not sign Theo Walcott.He does not have the qualities we need.He cannot cross; his vision and speed are equivalent to that of a rhinoceros. Bring in Canales(if we cannot sign THE HULK) he has every thing to be a classy player can play on the right,am and striker.He is injured at the moment so may be Real Madrid might be tempted to cash in on him.I think 6 m pounds will be good enough.If THE HULK does not turn Blue then i reckon we should turn to either:
Dagorev
Jovetic
Canales
Muller(if he decides to leave)
Although I hope we can convince Porto to
turn Hulk into a Blue.

Are chelsea still intrestrested in ricky van wolfswinkel {Ed002's Note - No.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Walcott will be a Chelsea player, its only a matter of time!

Agree0 Disagree0

Speed of of rhino? Walcott has quite a few short falls, but to say he is slow means you know nothing about him. In fact, most people's criticism of him is that pace is all that he does have. There are few players in the PL that have Walcott's pace.

Agree0 Disagree0

Slow your having a laugh mate

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we should have him if possible. I can Imagine Theo, Sturrdige, Kyle, Lukako, Kakuta these type players will try to eastablish in their national teams ahead of the world cup.

K Zaman

Agree0 Disagree0

Not for me, I'd rather keep that donkey salomon kalou!

Agree0 Disagree0

Rhinos though blind are fast.Speed of about 45km/hr.
roan

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's a solid homegrown prospect. I would love him to come off the bench and do what he did against Sweden for us. Talk about a super sub. I'd take him over sturridge any day.

Tk

Agree0 Disagree0

I personally rate Theo very highly, sure he has his faults but he can win you games with his speed alone

Agree0 Disagree0

So can sturridge ...

hey Edds, firstly just wanted to say a massive thank you for giving up your own time and doing this. Really helpful for all us chelsea fans and makes a real difference. secondly, i know its a bore but could you please just give a brief overview on how a transfer bid is put together/ negotiations are done and who is involved with making the decisions. plus can you please briefly outline how big a part the director of football plays. i think then we all will have a greater understanding of the system and hopefully it will cut down the stupid questions you get. thanks in advance, and thank you for all the great work you do
THE CHELS {Ed002's Note - Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the player's club to ask if they would be willing to sell and if they would grant permission to speak to a player's agent and possibly even the player. This will typically involve either broadly (through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. So many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subset of those go ahead.}
