Hi Ed, bbc is reporting Cesc Fabregas is to be joining Barcelona this weekend on a £35m deal. With this deal being concluded is there any chance we will go for Thiago Alacantara? AVB is apparently a HUGEEEE fan of his and with Alacantara coming out and saying he wants 1st team football and with players such as Iniesta, Xavi, Pedro, Fabregas (if he signs), Alexis Sanchez, Mascherano and Busquets all infront of him in the midfield and attacking midfield positions i really think theres a chance with a big bid to seal a move. What are your thoughts on the player and what i have just mentioned? thanks {Ed018's Note - i just don't see how Fabregas going to Barca would link us to Alacantara, he just signed a new deal with some crazy buyout clause. I don't expect to see him moving from Barca}

Believable1 Unbelievable2

I meant its another player coming in with a huge transfer fee like Sanchez who plays in a position he plays in. He isnt going to get the 1st team minutes and playing time he wants this season and i no AVB admires him as a player. But sounds like Chelsea wont be going for him then as he would be perfect for us :( {Ed018's Note - even if chelsea eniquire about him, the price tag would be to high}

Agree0 Disagree0

We should move for the kid regardless and test barca. He is an awesome talent this kid

Agree0 Disagree0

Not this summer but keep a lazy eye on this player for January/next summer.

If he hasn't played much by then he may look for first team football.

That new contract stunk of the club recognising they need to get a large fee for the player more than them wanting to keep him.

Hi ed Torres was subbed after 15mins for Spain do you know why? {Ed018's Note - ankle injury, heard not serious}

Believable2 Unbelievable3

Dear dear ed you should've known. It was a head injury . Tut tut {Ed018's Note - i read ankle injury but if it was a head injury then i was wrong, lets hope he is ok}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks he ok for sunday? {Ed018's Note - don't know just yet}

Agree0 Disagree0

He is fine ed018 he had a lsight concussion {Ed018's Note - good to hear, thanks mate}

Agree0 Disagree0

Believe he went off with concussion,isnt that 2 weeks off,

Agree0 Disagree0

Hernandez had slight concussion and he will be out for 3-4 weeks. Personally I think it's a godsend for you guys as now AVB does not have to play him. Malouda, Drogba & Sturridge will be far more potent IMO.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hernandez has a problem with head aches which is why his concussion is worse Torres will be fine

Agree0 Disagree0

He also limped of with an ankle injury according to SSN? {Ed018's Note - the ankle injury was the first report that came out but was corrected to a head injury}

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge will be out for 3 games so will torres more than likely so that leaves us with Lukaku, Anelka and Drogba

We are in trouble this season unless we can sign some fresh young talent. We have a aged squad who is going to be playing an increasing number of games this season with us trying to win 4 competitive competitions. Also a factor not allot of people are considering is that Drogba, Kalou, Mikel will all be off to the African cup of nations this January and with Essien out injured we are going to be losing 3 starting team players and also a squad rotation player. I seriously think we need to look at selling Mikel and bringing in a player such as Yann M'Vila he holds the ball up very well, he is built for the premier league and has been a starter in all the French international teams and at 21 he is definitely a player for the future. We also need to look at a legitimate winger such as the ones we have been linked with ie. Eden Hazard and Angel Di Maria. Either of these 2 players is an essential purchase in my opinion. Ed what are your thoughts on the Chelsea winger situation and the African Cup Of Nations and how this will impact Chelsea this year.

Thanks {Ed002's Note - There is still three weeks to go before the transfer window shuts and efforts are being made to sign players. Some players will leave. I don't see the ACN as a problem.}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

The season starts this weekend ed. {Ed018's Note - and the transfer period goes 3 more weeks}

There is 2 types of creative midfielders I see.
There is the simple, clean, little to no mistakes, but quite boring creative midfielder.
Then there is the risky, skilful, yes a few mistakes, but clever ideas man.
Chelsea play the first through Lampard and Mceachran seems to also be showing signs of this style. This is the type of player that Chelsea have become accustom to.
The latter we do not really show in our team other than when Benayoun makes a quick run or delivers a clever ball.
I think the reason Chelsea are going after Modric is because he shows signs of the simple style that Chelsea play with but can show that he is an ideas man at times. However most Chelsea fans I believe want to see someone with more edge like Hazard or perhaps Pastore before he moved to PSG.
I personally want to see that edge and creativity coming to Chelsea because I think this is what will support Torres and other strikers best and everyone likes a little bit of flair, something Chelsea lacks in with this current team.
I have nothing against the style which can work at times for Chelsea now, but it seems to have broken down in the last season, what with Lampard ageing and not much variation in midfield. So I would like everyone else like to see a young, talented, clever creative midfielder at Chelsea before the end of this transfer window, because I can't see Chelsea challenging otherwise.

Like to hear what you think of my view. Be critical if need be.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Most of the times Chelsea's style works. But as we sadly know, when teams park a bus in front of their goal - more often than not we will look lackluster. This is our sad story. We rely on Drogba to save games, or expect some header from standard situations. Unfortunately we ain't got dribnlers/dazzlers, players to take one on ones, beat opposition, take them oit of positions.

We sorely miss Robben. Everyone, but front office seems to think that it's an urgency. Can't understand why aren't we going for Hazard or Hulk, either.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you are spot on re. Lampard & McEachran being similar players and Chelsea liking Modric because he fits in as a similar player. This is exactly why I think Modric isn’t the player we need; I felt the same about Moutinho when we were linked to him. They are v.good tidy players but don’t offer anything new.

We need a flair player who will take risks, and yes sometimes these won’t come off and he’ll loose the ball; but if they come off 80% - 90% of the time then it’s all good.

I would like to see a very serious push for Ganso, but who will actually sign is anyone’s guess

Agree0 Disagree0

I think your right, but more importantly we need wingers to be able to stretch opposition and create space in the centre of the field, for the likes of Ramires and Modric ect to be able to work in. Why AVB does not see this I dont no.

a) Chelsea are surly not going to spend millions on a player to cover for essien when he is out for six months, should we sign Fernando or a similar type player I expect this to signal the end of Essiens Chelsea career, neither he or Fernando would be happy on the bench. I would rather see Essien come back to full fitness; that unfortunately looks increasingly unlikely.

b) Having missed the Gold Cup this summer I didn’t see much of Alvaro Pereira, can anyone confirm if he is capable of playing on the left wing? The emergence of Bertrand and Van Aanholt made the presence of Zhirkov in our squad unnecessary; if he is another LB surely his presence would be an unnecessary waste of money? Ed?

c) Offering Benayoun in part exchange for Modric seems like a strange decision, 30mil is too much without another player being offered. As much as I see Benayoun as a squad player he is a much handier squad player than say Kalou Benayoun should be present as support in the squad to a first team starter like Modric.

d) Drogba being sold to AC Milan now is like a broken pencil…pointless Lukaku will need to learn from our experienced strikers, as he is dubbed the new Drogba who better for him to learn from than Drogba? I fully expect Drogba to stay for one more season and take the young Belgian under his wing.

That is all.

Porto are expected to sell fullback Alvaro Pereira to Chelsea in the coming days.

A Bola says Pereira's move to Chelsea is all but agreed as Blues owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to meet his €30 million buyout clause. Is this true ed? {Ed002's Note - I refer to earlier answers.}

Hey Ed, any truth to the rumors that we are intrested in fredy guarin? {Ed002's Note - I am not so sure there is. I know they thought an offer from Roma drisory, so perhaps efforts are being made to drum up interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid.}

seriously now - chelsea are renoun for last min deals and what not but we have sigend another striker in lukaku - midfielders is what we need especailly with ESSIEN being injured - i believe playing Luiz in the holding role willl work but you still need that playmaker - i know we have out ledge lamps but i cant see him doing it week in week out like he has for the last 5 years - pastore waste of money knowone really knows how goosd he is and the prem is a diff ball game - Nasri would be great... modric wesley, robben, schwinstiger - that are potentially available anyway - i even think barton could get in the mix

Believable3 Unbelievable4

Barton ?? Mate, you shouldnt even mention Barton in the same statement as Robben, Modric etc. The guy is a thug who has continually wasted the opportunity to be a decent player.

Hi ED, I post on the Rangers site quite regularly, been a few posts of late stating Benayoun may be coming up on loan, wondered if you knew of any facts to help us out {Ed002's Note - Nothing I am afraid.}

Everybody knows Chelsea only do serious big money business on the last day and the last hour so expect plenty more activity from the blues, I wouldn't rule out any of the following and possibly a couple if we are lucky.
•Ganso
•Neymar
•Pato
•Hulk
•Modric
•Kaka

P.S. What is the current valuation on Neymar and Ganso if you know, as you said Neymar's valuation has increased. {Ed002's Note - 55M euro is what Santos have stated for Neymar. It doesn't mean it won't change again.}

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Thanks Ed002 seems pretty reasonable to me the lad is a serious talent, do you know how much Chelsea have offered? Not to worry if u don't know. {Ed002's Note - I don't want to get wrapped up in discussing money and offers.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Of that list, my preferred two would be Ganso and Hulk

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok no worries, fully understood

Hi Eds. Surely Piazon isn't expected to step into the first team when he arrives in Jan....He hadn't even made a first team apperience for sao paulo when we signed him in the spring. The club isn't expecting this raw talent to fill any holes, our current squad my have? Cheers {Ed002's Note - Chelsea buy players for a squad and this is the case with Lucas. As you say, he won't be expect to walk right in to the first team.}

ED, is this true about offering benayoun plus cash deal for modric, and what do you think will happen if we fail to land modric, also is there anytihng on pato at the moment? {Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry.}

10 Aug 2011 00:24:37
Whats Chelsea's stance on Ganso? I read your post the other day and was wondering if you thought Chelsea will make an approach for the player? If so do you see them going for a double deal including Neymar or buying Ganso on his own if there are at all interested. Thanks {Ed002's Note - The player wants Milan but that looks unlikely for at least a year. Santos want to keep the player but may not be able to afford his wages without sponsor ship. It may be possible to strike a deal and loan the player back. The joint bid was from Anzhi Makhachkala. There will be further consideration and no doubt talks with Santos.}

Hey Ed , BBC rumour page have Spurs preparing bid £35m for Hulk. Any truth to this. As surely CFC wouldnt let slip another target. Or is this prob a load of media crap. Thanks {Ed002's Note - They may well be preparing a bid but if Falcao leaves Porto I would expect them to want to keep hold of Hulk.}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Plus, I highly doubt Porto would be willing to deal Hulk for 35M... Chelsea would already have him.
